You made me LOL with the double warning at the start - even though I'm the man of my house and my wife does what I say - so I'm not worried - I like my wife to be happy - so I must agree. Best advice in the video, LOL!

Don, thanks for sharing, I wished you had been doing this when I started back in the 80's. My son wants to start the hobby now, he is in business in Dallas, TX & comes homes most weekends. I'm going to send him this link to start watching. Is there a search so he can see how you locate the queen?

Sir, what is the best season of the year to make queen. Spring, autum or winter.My hive is dying and the queen seems to lay very little eggs.The number of bees have drastically reduced to around 200 or so. Please advice. Want to replace the queen. Its 2 years old now.

I wonder how you keep a lot of queens alive if you plan to sell them. I imagine I would make them to order. If I advertised all winter come May they would be sold and in production? Fascinating stuff though. Who tells the bees what to do every April?

Wood dowel is about £2.00 for a strip 8 foot long from a timber yard. drill a 15 hole base plate for the dowel legs to fit into. soak them in cold water to get the wood wet and shake the water off then dip them three or four times in a pot of warm wax to build up three or four layer thick cups. Then plant them on a strip of wood covered in a layer of warm wax to pull off the cups. Insert them into the frame and put the frame in the hive for the queen to lay her eggs in. God tells them what to do, how to do it and when it needs doing, all you have to do is supply the means to fool them. Basically they are a computer programme that can not see a buffer overflow coming. You insert the wax cells like the Trojan Horse then you take them out every couple of weeks or so and send them off to pastures new Federal Express. or Royal Mail. In 6000 years of human history, evolution has not had the luxury of pinging them with any cluebyfours yet. You just keep the orders coming and it never will.

Should we fill the wax cone with honey or something else or its ok with only wax ?
@turnitupmike
@turnitupmike 5 ай бұрын
As I understand it, just the wax cup then goes onto the bar like he did with the cut out strips. But this way putting (grafting) the larvae in the royal jelly it is in to just move it from brood cells into these larger cup queen sized cells and position them facing down then back into the hive to look after them for the 10 or so days become queens for the nurse bees to raise into queens. Then into mating Nucs or queen castles. *** As I understand what I think the approach is.

after the cells are capped, how long do you wait to put them in a queenless hive?
@ME_MeAndMyBees
@ME_MeAndMyBees 3 жыл бұрын
If they are capped, your good to go... Put them right in ! Make sure their are no other cups 'made' in emergency by the bees... Check every bit of the Hive. Or a random Queen could kill your 'chosen Queen.' 🐝

@ME_MeAndMyBees

Early Summer. You need Drones and enough time for the Queen to be mated, get a good laying pattern ... To sell on, or build up her own Colony for Winter... 🐝
