I’ve also listened to this one multiple times. The Astral Weeks comment is tongue in cheek because it’s not “jazz” per se as the character in the song suggests, and as the psychedelic hits, FJM is unable to refute her claim. It’s a funny line that tacitly narrates the “come up”

I know you mostly review new music but I would pay for a video on Pure Comedy. I love that album so much that I wrote a paper on it when I was an undergrad. I find that among FJM fans it is very polarizing. Thank you for the video as always!

AVAA! I’m so excited to hear your thoughts about this flawed masterpiece! I would love to hear your thoughts on his novel included in the liner notes for his debut as FJM: Fear Fun and his middle three albums too. I Love You, Honeybear is perfection in my mind, and Pure Comedy is timeless forever. God’s Favorite Customer is also spectacular and really shows how deep his interrogations of himself can go. Since Chloë he’s sought to remove himself from his work, but his first four albums are confessional to a fault. The song “The Songwriter” is where he apologizes to his wife for objectifying her in his art and since then he’s been way more reticent to disclose intimate details of his personal life. Having a daughter will do that to you

That Andrew Bird album is great. The only reason I don't think this new Father John Misty album is the greatest, is because his first three albums, fear fun, honey bear and pure comedy are such tough acts to follow, nothing has compared since. I mean you put mash out with the rest of the world and it's the greatest. But you put it against Josh's other work and, eh... It's a bit better than mid! But that's still saying a lot! Honey bear is a total 10/10 deluxe.
