The power of faith, which is so weak it can do literally nothing...
@Malorn03 жыл бұрын
Only if you consider changing the minds of men to be nothing, altering the fates of nations and history but trivial, and founding the concept of individual worth to be unimportant. Faith has broken the shackles of slavery, declared the primacy of law, and cared for the discarded of society. And all of that is assuming that we live in a world of but stardust and chance, if there is anything to religion, then faith may be capable of far more. If one wishes to be an atheist, that can be an honest belief, as honest as any other. But attempting to paint over or rewrite thousands of years of history and accomplishment merely makes your personal atheism look insecure, unwilling to confront anything but a strawman. Ironically, it puts you in the same place as the 'faithful' who have so little faith that they try to build walls around it and 'protect their children from outside influences.' Both merely reveal a shallow belief, that must try to hide from challenge or other ideas.

It was easy for so many years to overlook William Christopher's work on MASH because it was so subtle and understated. He often got overlooked by the bigger comedic moments, but a strong moral hand was really needed as a contrast to many of the show's themes and plots. He presented a calming, moral influence that was often criticized as softening the show, but really existed to display the depth of human compassion. Eventually he rose to the top of my list of favorite MASH characters. God Bless Mr. Christopher!

It's easy to mistake Father Mulcahey's kindness for weakness. He has shown many times that he's made of sterner stuff than people think. He's not the type to throw his weight around but can and does when it's necessary.

and this is why you never mess with father mulcahy. when the moment needs it he too will put you in your place. when you insult the lords area.

This episode helped me to deal with the fact that I couldn't at the time forgive my sh!tty parents. He said to the soldier, "How can I forgive you if you aren't repentant." Neither of my parents ever apologized, nor would even take responsibility for their actions. It helped me to unload the burden they placed on me until I was in a better place decades later.

Wow. I could never put into words my situation but you just did. And it explains why I now have a good relationship with my mother but not my father. My mother apologized for what I went through and her part in turning a blind eye to it. Every time I ever gave my dad a chance to talk about it, he just talked about the weather.

If you believe in Church sanctuary, everything the father does makes total sense. This is their church, and he means it when he says God doesn't issue building permits.

Father Mulcahy, was fun to watch but he would CRACK DOWN when needed, and kudos to him for doing what he did! I'm trying to remember if Col Potter recommended him for a commendation.

Never saw this scene before. Father Mulcahy was a boxer. I'm not at all surprised he stood up to the private and eventually disarmed him; I am surprised he didn't knock the guy's face right through the back of his skull in the process. Well done, Father, well done.

You know, the likes of Hawkeye, Clinger, and Hot Lips Hoolihand for their humor, satire, and sex appeal were typically the drawing force for viewers when this came out. But it was characters like the colonel and the father what made people stay due to strong moral fiber and noble hearts.
