We JUST rewatched that movie and couldn’t get over how perfect every line he delivered was, also he has the best part of the movie: “You know what, *Scott jumps out window* he just left.”

I've had a potty mouth, my entire life. I tried VERY hard to curb my cursing, in front of the children, but by the time the second one was two, I pretty much gave up.

"Father of the Year" - Yeah, he's not the only one who's made that mistake. But I tell my kids the same thing as his tutor, they're just words. "Say what you want inside our home. But out in public, just know some people will judge you. And that's not your fault - their instinct to judge you is their problem, not yours."

I know parents whose default is to reward bad behavior. Also, blow up on kids for being kids that are just having harmless fun. And punishing them for potty problems as if it were their fault. So really, cussing in front of them and giving them a peach while not answering them really isn’t that bad.

I think the way I would teach about cussing would be heavy emphasis on the context of its use. Curse words are not inherently bad and you should feel free to use the words you like. However, in talking to elders for instance, there is a huge difference in saying "Fuck, I burnt the pork roast," and telling those same elders "I fucked my girlfriend like a stuck pork roast." The latter would be an inappropriate use of the word when talking to elders. Cussing should also be avoided when having an argument or talking through a disagreement, where cursing is more likely to negatively inflame the discussion, making the discussion or disagreement less likely to be solved effectively and being careful with your word choice is part of being a good communicator. In casual conversations with friends, cussing is no big deal, and can actually be a good thing as it loosens up conversation, makes things more casual, and is an aspect of a level of comfort and familiarity. While cussing in public isn't inherently wrong, cussing should be avoided when talking to superiors such as teachers and bosses and can get you in to trouble, and is also just a bit disrespectful and tasteless to he cussing like a sailor in front of other people's children, elders, or people whom one ought to employ a higher degree of tact around. While I would be entirely fine with my children using casual cussing with friends or even in my presence in casual conversation or as an interjection "Ah, fuck, my car is having issues again," It would be disrespectful to use in a situation such as my disciplining them and them responding "Your rules are fucked!" It's disrespectful, but more importantly ineffective communication. I would be much more receptive to "I have an issue with this rule, and for these reasons." Over all, feel free to cuss in public, but do so understanding that some people may take offense to it, and that it can go towards people disliking you or finding you disrespectful, and also understand that an overuse of curse words can come off as unsophisticated and evidence that you are unable to express yourself in a more effective manner. While the occasional curse word can spice up language, over use can have the opposite effect of making you appear unintelligent, not well spoken and not having the capacity for thoughtful conversation, and also make you appear disrespectful, vulgar, ghetto, or unable to read the room and choose the appropriate time to cuss depending on your audience, the type of discussion, the meaning intended based on context, and how you intend for it to be received. We can have a casual, jovial conversation where 9/10 cursing would be completely acceptable, even with elders present, speaking of the fucking crazy shit you saw at Walmart, but once it's used to describe how you fucked your fiance till her pussy was fucking raw, then I'm going to be upset that you said that in front of Grandma, your teacher, Mrs. Stephenson the elderly neighbor, or Mrs. Stephenson's 8 year old grandson. Audience, format, setting of conversation, seriousness of the topic, context, surroundings, and potential eavesdroppers with a Nextdoor account and too much time on their hands.

Curse words are not any worse than other words. But it makes us feel good to give language a hierarchy, so we can put people that use it in their hierarchical “place.”
@GR8APE69
@GR8APE69 Жыл бұрын
True, but I also wouldn't talk about fucking in front of Grandma, my teacher, my boss, or the neighbor's young children like I might with a friend while we kill a 6 pack in my backyard. I could also talk to my spouse about how we're getting fucked on the water bill, but would not talk to them about how fucked they are and need to change. Likewise, i might complain to a friend about how fucked the construction on main street is, but i would avoid saying that during the town hall meeting where I want to make a well received point about the issues we face due to the construction on main street. Context and overall awareness go a long way.

Luckily I was not a curse however my ex was however he put the fear of God in them...terrible role model. So...they never cursed around him or me. HE became my ex and they respected me enough not to use those words around me.... the relationship with him is still not the best and they are adults now.
