I have a strong feeling that Sleep is actually an interpretation for the traumas and troubles we go through in life, or “the big sleep” if you will. Ending life. And all these “tokens” are his testament for living that life and giving himself up for it just to find himself again at the end. I firmly believe so many of these songs are song to himself and not someone else, he needed to learn to love and give life to himself. That’s why they resonate so much, everyone can relate to struggling with self love and trauma

I totally agree about the drums. As a drummer I feel Vessel is definitely the building materials and blueprints of ST but II is the glue & nails that holds it all together. Worship gents 🤘🌑

Im with you, when I listen to Sleep Token, I see a toxic relationship I had and never dealt with the emotions and feelings of what that relationship was. Vessel is able to put to words what I never could and what I refused to process. I am forever grateful to him because now I can see why i had to go through what I did and how it shaped who I am

I love watching y'all go thru the lyrics and trying to interpret them. That's the beauty of Vessel's lyrics, he writes such amazing lyrics that it literally can mean whatever you interpret them as. They're relatable to so many people. Gah, I love Vessel so much. He's so passionate and artistic, i literally could go on for days about the guy 😅. He's just insanely talented. If you love the drums in The Offering then II the drummer has a drum playthrough without Vessel singing, it's amazing! It's actually called an Offering from II!

Y'all should do full album listens/reactions after you hear them individually. It definitely hits different when it's all together. Just throwing it out there but I would absolutely watch a three-hour video from y'all. This is one of the few channels that actually lets the song breathe while also giving your genuine takes. Too many channels out here just listen to the song and don't offer much analysis so y'all are ahead of the game.

I've been looking forward to this one!! Sundowning is gonna give you musical whiplash 😂 so much variety in this album. The Offering was one of the first songs I heard from them and i was instantly hooked with "turn the page" his voice is so damn beautiful. I'm a sucker for a male singing in falsetto.

I finally quit chasing my tail about the 'narrative' when I just took each song as it was meant - a token. Less about finding some big story and more about each song existing as a snapshot of the emotion the song and words evoke. In the end what stands out about Vessel's writing and performing are the emotions. Those feelings, whatever they are, connects all of us in some way, at some time, as humans. He's giving us this commonality and vehicle to feel these things and to reflect and appreciate them without the immediacy of what made them originally. If the state of being human is in some way divine, to feel these emotions is its own token of worship.

I think the song is from sleeps perspective and is trying to entice vessel into taking a bite of the “forbidden fruit” so to speak Sleep is all about wanting in, wrapping arms around, giving in etc. I think sundowning as an album is primarily about sleep courting vessel into becoming her.. vessel lol. But we get glimpses of vessel’s perspective in songs like “dark signs” and “drag me under” which the latter song shows us that the tempting has been wholeheartedly successful.

I always figured that Sleep Token's worship of "sleep" is a metaphor for whatever tumultuous relationship a person has gone through, whether it be with another person or vice. I've never taken the lore literally as I believe the purpose is to be interpretive. IMO the music is whatever you feel or intuit from it, not what is literally said.

I seen them live for my birthday a couple months ago back in April , hearing them live just doubles the emotional connection vessel makes you feel with his voice. Yall should checkout the first ever interview with any member of sleep token on drumeo , two speaks on his influences and his drumming and also plays thru some of their songs also. Sleep in and of itself is a metaphor for the allure of suffering I think. Like unhealthy love as a compulsion for prolonged pain because you've wrapped this person up into the misplaced ideal you strive for. And the lore behind sleep token can be interpreted however you like for the most part (it's why lore is sparse) but contrary to popular belief of others I don't think these songs are ABOUT sleep itself as a deity. There are instances at live shows where he has pre-recorded conversations with sleep. He is the Vessel of Sleep and is its conduit. In exchange for some as of yet unknown price (maybe seeing the subject of these songs in his dreams again?) Vessel becomes the mouthpiece for sleep by laying bare his pain and turmoil for others to consume or even find comfort in

I don’t think you’ll ever hear the lyrics reference “Sleep” directly. The story is told through metaphor and imagery. I mean, he’s constantly talking about being this person‘s sacred guardian, and making offerings (as if to a deity) etc.. But yes, you’re very much right in that, in the end, this music is an exploration of the journey of a toxic, co-dependent relationship.

The Sleep thing is a gimmick. Its a good one. My sense is the masks and the lore are similar to a superhero philosophy of protecting themselves and the ones they love, or indeed loved and lost. Its all about the protection from deep and painful emotions. Thats just my feeling. And its fun too. Takes nothing from the music for me though. I absolutely love it. So refreshing and honest. Every offering is a cathartic purchase which buys something of that loss back - Sensitives and insomniacs will appreciate that sentiment.

He mentions Sleep by name many times on different albums. Maybe Sleep is an interpretation of trauma, maybe not. I believe Sleep is an actual entity. The songs and concerts are Tokens to appease Sleep, and are minds are the sacrifice offered to Sleep 😁

Y'all are my favorite reaction channel and I must say I appreciate your breakdown of lyrics. I would love if you guys checked out the first and last song of the trilogy which are 'The night doesn't belong to God' and 'Euclid' I feel like listening to those two songs back to back really helps paint the picture. The deity is truly a metaphor for a relationship and it really makes sense when you listen to those two songs. Just my opinion but I hope to see you react to these songs. Great work! Love it all 👌🏻
