Hi guys, I am Alex.
I am an Ukrainian expat who moved to Portugal.
No one in my family ever did any farming, But I discovered that I am very passionate about farming so recently I've purchased this 28 hectares Farm in Central Portugal, with the intention to start a small scale farm raising worms, cattle and sheep.
In this little farm I am also planning to build an off grid home, and be as self sufficient as possible, by growing my own food.
I created this channel to share my journey with the world, The journey of a first generation farmer, that is starting with no prior knowledge and experiences.
That maybe all the mistakes that I will make along this journey, and all the fails maybe will help some of you to learn from my mistake and not make them yourself.
I want to bring value and inspire people who are thinking about farming.
I am not a filmmaker or an editor, I am just a simple guy with a camera.

Can you explain why you used cinder blocks walls instead of stick frame for your interior walls? Your sheep is so cute how he follows you around 🐑💙 Seems like he needs a friend to play with? dog or another sheep? 🐑 or🦮 I love to watch father & son working side by side. Hi Alex! Im watching you and your father working on your project all the way from South Africa! I am Portuguese, living in a South Africa, a country that I've called home for many years. My children and grandchildren are born here, but we keep our culture and traditions close to our heart. And hope that one day we will return. BUT what i realy want to say is... how admirable it is to see how people can be creative, have a vision, and move on with it! Admirable to me....also because it's people like you that are adding value to that country. And i thank you and your parents for that. For having the faith, and believe that you can contribute to Portugal, AND at the same time, add value in every way. Unfortunately, it may be due financial strain on the locals or just pure laziness, and lack of vision ...i don't see or find our local people taking on those projects! They would much rather have the usual 9 to 5 jobs, keep their hands well manicured, than take a tractor and plough tge lands. So what i want to say, is. .THANK YOU for coming to Portugal and adding such value and putting your ideas into work. Thank you for showing, that determination, and the love and respect for the land, and your goodwill, determination will bare fruition , just from working from a simple dream. BRAVO and keep going 👏

Wow! Your father is a master of masonry work. Most homes in North America are timber framed buildings. Working on stone buildings is a very different experience.🙂👍👍👍

Yes it is..... I worked a few years in Portugal building houses.... and 5 years in New Jersey ...over there I´v done a few different jobs in construction...brick and block layer ,pipe layer , framing, curb and sidewalk even driveway paving..... building a home here is completely different than the homes in most of the US states...I believe that in Florida they build more like we do ,with more concrete ..... ceramic tiles etc....,but I'm not sure about that... a regular family home here from start to finish take at least 1 year to be ready...

I love how your dad attached the blocks to the side walls by manufacturing short lengths of rebar to the blocks to the sidewall.Reminds me of my builder/woodworker Grandad who, if anything was needed would always have a way of 'fashioning' it !! Your Dad reminds me so much of him.I am 80 now. When my Grandad was a young man he started off building forms to hold up the ceilings in the mines in Durham. Then to make some money he sailed to Brazil to build the railways before coming home to start his own business, get married, have 4 girls and 1 son. Their youngest daughter, my mother joined the WAAF in WW2 .

This brought back so many memories of our building in Spain, wiring up the rebars, mixing the concrete even changing the generator oil!! Great to see the good tamping of the concrete, not many people seem to do this it's always a little half hearted tamp!!( moan over!), coming on a treat, great work!!
