Wow, seems like the thing about quitters really resonated! One thing I have seen in a number of comments is this game lacking community, and I fully agree. I myself used to quickplay alone, and it was EXTREMELY rare to have any groups hit Q to keep the strike team together. Same issue is affecting their party finder, people are more comfortable being anonymous, which leads to bad, selfish behavior like leaving. The fact there is no pregame hangout in the morningstar really hurts the camaraderie, I used to love hanging out in the Inn or the Keep waiting for a match to fill, then getting in the bubble. So here’s a solution! Replace the prep screen we have now where everyone stands around looking like four statues with an actual hangar where players can swap their gear, hop in the plane when theyre ready, and of course PARKOUR!

I think fatshark can do a little with the quitter pandemic by removing the Sir Melk contracts of no casualties. Usually quitters numbers grow on the first couple of days once contracts get restarted and in my games they quit when someone (it doesn't have to be them) dies so probably they don t give a damn about staying in that game.

Quitters/ leavers are usually one of four things: 1. The saint. Players who're downed in a critical situation who selflessly sacrifice their time and efforts on a mission to get an unfettered bot in to save the team. 2. The legitimate. Somebody who has to leave because tgeir cat is suddenly sick over the carpet or an unexpected delivery. 3. The defeatist They quit fom losing heart in they belonging on that mission which is sad and I try to bolster and carry to avoid anyone feeling like that. But also some aren't giving a clutcher the benefit of at least trying before they leave. 4. The selfish. They're selfishly uncaring if it hurts the game for others and want a restart they can win more easily. Idk. I've never even thought like that myself. Are they playing the right game for them? Darktide is built for co-op teamwork. Don't bail on a clutcher, just give them a minute, you know? I once clutched a Damnation Hi intensity for 5-6 minutes, beat two Monstrosities solo and shredded an entire horde just to find that the three players I'm rescuing have all left and I get 3 bots. Time passes but then no one comes in for the rest of the mission. I nearly beat the mission anyway alone with the bots. Nearly.
@packmanbp4 күн бұрын
Sometimes I do the "saint" thing when I see only one guy standing and a dire but salvageable situation, but most times it's just "yeah I'm just wasting everyone's time and ressources here, a bot might be somewhat more useful" 😅

There is also the fifth case of those who abuse mods to get a free out of jail card when they're netted/downed in a bad position by returning directly to operatives selection screen. The game treats them as being disconnected so they can get right back in although they lost a wound. I play on East Asia and Asia Pacific server, and people here do that a lot (I used to do that as well).
@thunder24344 күн бұрын
@packmanbp Don't sell yourself short. If you can shoot a gun decently do that, if you can melee then keep moving around and dodge and cut and stay on the outside of a large group of enemies. As long as you occupy them at least you're doing good work. This said with the right skills and build the characters in the game are able to mow down entire hordes alone, you can learn this too. Sidestep and cut and step forward, cut and step back. Always small movements to be harder to hit, that's a good start for it. Then get a good melee weapon, if you got a chainweapon take a speed stim and zig-zag the mouse to hit multiple enemies. There are so many videos showing how to fight melee or shoot you can just watch a bunch and you improve at least a bit. So the bot then, is it any good? Better than an average player human? No. A bot is only useful to get easily accessible teammates up or drawing fire away from a lone player. They basically can't defeat a Monstrosity even when it's just got a sliver of health left, but even a beginner player can by shooting it or throwing a grenade. A human player is almost always better than a bot, even one with middling skill accidentally on an Auric mission. Just stay close to teammates and shoot and try to not get surrounded alone. Find a chokepoint and hold it, except when you hear the tick of a burster or a bombers' grenade about to deny that spot. If a player asks me mid game if they should quit from being too overmatched in skill I always say no and tell them to stick with me instead. Another thing to consider is that when you leave the ping drops for a time for the remaining players. In a duel with a monstrosity that can spell instant defeat for the player soloing it. Fighting crushers or a pack of ragers would be equally damaging. So at least don't leave in a crucial moment like that Maybe if everyone else is downed you got no choice though. But if you can at least pick a less damaging moment to do it. Or better yet don't and stick with the mission.

The problems with Verm are just expounded upon with Darktide because 40k fans are utterly insatiable about whaling over useless garbage. They're probably worried about the playerbase being too small to fill all the maps multiplied by difficulties and modifiers.
@braindead43784 күн бұрын
Honestly the mission board is a bit of a vice hold. If they let players pick whatever difficulty for whatever map with whatever modifier and require others to pick all of that to queue up, obviously statistically thats gonna make queues way longer than when every player is picking from like, 20 choices. And if they just send 100 variants on the screen for people its the same thing. Mind, they could also just, have a regular mission select with the only queueing factor being mission and difficulty, with a quickplay option that goes to the same pool. Works for just about every other game. Mutations are still an issue though. I know I hate, and some of my friends even leave, when you queue up a random missions with a mutation you hate. Though that could also, ITSELF, fix the issue. Let people select specific mutations and only like 3 choices will have full lobbies because the rest suck. Still spreads the players thinner, though.

One solution to dying in a match is to take the system that the game Awesomenauts has. In that game when you die you spawn high in the sky in a drop pod and play this minigame of collecting resources as you slowly descend back in to the battlefield. What Fatshark can do is if you die you immediately spawn by yourself in a side tunnel where you will only fight normal mobs and when you reach the end of that tunnel you can drop down a hole that lead to the main map and rejoin the team.

I have an idea to solve the problem of leavers, while respecting the lore. In the Imperium, if you leave the battlefield, your fate is summed up in two things: either you are thrown in prison, or you are executed on the spot. The system is simple, if a player leaves the game a certain number of times, in a certain time limit, (it is up to the developers to decide), his behavior will be considered as sedition. As punishment, his costumes, his insignias, his titles, and his frames will be temporarily confiscated. Instead, he will be forced to wear a prisoner costume with the word sedition on his nameplate written in big letters, and it is important that this is applied to all his created characters regardless of their classes. To return to normal, he will have to regain the trust of the Inquisition and seek redemption by winning a certain number of missions with a certain difficulty, (it is still up to the developers to decide), all this under the disapproving gaze of his teammates and the crew of the Mourning Star. Of course, any behavior considered as sedition will extend the duration of the punishment. Leavers must be ashamed! You don't mess with the Imperium!

few points from the view of a vermintide vet and a darktide newcommer, its long so be forewarned The good: 1- this game is unironicaly addicting to a point you can nolife it, that's a huge plus for me in games like these 2- it makes me incredibly happy that the high ceiling of some things hasn't dropped at all since vermintide 3- everything is precisely as good as i hoped; the art, the gameplay loop, the feel of weapons and man my expectations were *high* 4- there's so many different (and good, that's important too) ways to play i'd be impressed if someone can't find a single style they like and that, in turn, pushes this game replayability LONG beyond where it would've ended ...the bad: 1- the grind is "decently" paced out in terms of weapons but kinda blows in terms of Talents. Personaly, i felt i could only start to see why X class could be fun for me at about level20 or so which is a lotta time you're asking to TRY TO CONVINCE people to keep playing your game until it becomes *actualy* fun. If i hadn't already known that feeling from playing vermintide and/or was horribly addicted to horde shooters i'd probably not stick around and with the influx of new players i bet everyone can see why thats bad. Also this game isn't goddamn cheap, that is a *tall* order for anyone with third-world money trying to figure out if it's actualy worth the price. 2-the rewards for most content are absolute ass and weekly shop is a joke. Since you can get a character maxxed at around 15-20hours by that point anything worth buying in both equipment stores is so below your level its less of a chore to just spam missions to try and get what you want while hoarding materials to make leveling your next character easier than buying equipment and upgrating it. 3- while still on the topic of rewards, and this is for the endgame guys that wanna nolife this game: anything beyond Curios is so goddamn easy to get a good, hell even a "GodRoll", that it trivializes the whole thing. Even curios are kinda whatever since you can just refine to your tastes. I feel bad for people who had to grind these out, and i mean REALLY grind for them back in their days with how easy i decked out my ogryn in "meta" equipment for literally all weapons at about 60h of playtime. Granted with how few weapons Ogryn has that must be a whole lot worse on other classes but the point still stands. 4- at some point the missions all blur together and, though i'm willing to forgive the low number of them since the game is barely 2 years old, i'm not willing to overlook how uninvested i feel in the actual world that i'm playing in. I get why it is this way; given each Darktide mission can take anywhere between 20 minutes to an hour i can see why keeping Vermintide's campaign-style missions would make it *very* hard to produce new content, but i still feel like it could've made the game better. As it stands Darktide is, for me, a "40K Horde shooter game" and it could've had anyone of the 4 chaos Gods or anything else in it that it wouldn't change anything, and i wanted just a tad more immersion than that. 5- having 3 different voices/personalities for 4 classes means more expensive contracts with voice actors, which means more work for less money for writers, which means spreading manpower kinda thin resulting in far fewer interactions between both the playable and NPCs, which means less immersion resulting in me not giving a damn about most of it beyond the 30h gametime mark. There's only so many times i can hear an Ogryn go "GRUTTING GREAT!" before it starts sounding like sandpaper against my eardrums and it pains me so much to say this. whatever immersion darktide has is based (heh) on the novelty of being able to experience a good portrayal of the 40K universe on anything else than an *very expensive* hobby, wiki-diving/books or very niche RTS games and said novelty quickly goes away as you play. Wielding a Bolter for the 50th time is still fun, just not as fun as picking it up the first time and realizing you FINALY get to actualy use the damn thing in a good 40k game you know? ...and that about covers it i think. Also i wanna be very clear here; i love this game. It fills a very "L4D2 but less braindead" hole in my heart and i'm glad i got it but the negatives are only longer than the positives because want to precisely convey WHY i think it should change, not to demotivate you to try it or even bash the game out of popularity. I'm saying all of this 'cause, deep down, i want this game to flourish *the right way* .
@tuesss3 күн бұрын
I agree with most of this except bad #5: I love these interactions between different personalities and shooting a bolter or even a bolt pistol always feels great no matter how many times I do it (and I'm not even much of a 40K fan). I think part of the leaver problem could be from people getting disconnected. They lag out which causes them to go down and when you go for the revive they turn into a bot. The thing about quitters is extremely true. Everyone has RL reasons to quit a game sometime, but when you see a player quitting right after they have been downed we all know they just didn't bother. The penances are certainly a reason, but also the fact that sometimes the wait time to be resurrected is frustratingly long. I think a greater number of res spots scattered in the maps would help.
@KageRyuu63 күн бұрын
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment. To that end, you want to kill the game, make people wait fifteen minutes before getting back into a game. The game is already full of time wasters as it is, Mourningstar's layout, mission start jogs, their generic failure cut scenes, end game resource tallies, and let us not forget the preponderance of load screens. As for community, that died the second they decided to make the Mourning Star into a public server lobby and made grouping up optional at the end of missions. Both Vermintide games had hosted lobbies where players would join before starting the mission, and upon completion would be returned to the host's lobby to decide whether they wanted to go again or not. In short, if you want people to group together, make it the quicker more efficient option.

Something i think they could look at doing is extending the endgame. They wouldn't have to invest much in it. Taking Deep Rock Galactic as an example, you could reset a character's level to 1, gain a cosmetic / medal or something, and then get to level them up to 30 again. And once you've done that, maybe you get to go to level 31 and get 1 extra talent point. Also with weapon masteries, it would be good if you could still progress past level 20, but very slowly. Maybe get to level 40 mastery and you get to upgrade your weapon to 510 power. At the moment, you reach level 30 with your character, you get level 20 mastery in all the weapons that you like, and then progression ends. I would like it if there was more progression, even if it took a huge amount of xp or mastery to do, it would be something. And it wouldn't require a lot of effort for Fatshark to do it. Also deep dives. Can we have something like that in Darktide?

I find existing progression very good, actually. Character level 30 and mastery level 20 are just the beginning, because then the real progression starts: improving skills and refining builds. This is the first game where I'm actually interested in the "endgame", because it doesn't involve killing the same boss over and over again for a 0.0001% chance to drop an item, it's just me and my skills (and my teammates, of course). Also, contrary to what some content creators say ;) there is no single definitive build for each class, it all depends on your playstyle. More difficult content is always welcome, though.

Other games implement similar systems for players who quit mid-match. Apex Legends, for example, handles this really well by imposing a fair 5-minute penalty for those who leave their team. While I no longer play Apex, I appreciated this feature because it discourages players from quitting just to requeue, which often leads to frustration from players who needed that team to win. At the same time, players who leave for legitimate reasons barely notice the 5-minute timer. The system was specifically designed to punish those who give up and immediately try to requeue. A similar approach would be beneficial in this game, as quitting has become a widespread issue and almost an epidemic with selfish try hards.
@nickrafuse9844 күн бұрын
I think you're points are all pretty on-the-mark. I've noticed the leavers too and wondered what was going on. I believe that as the game gains popularity and more players show up (I was actually queued to join the other day??), the more "I'm just here for fun" players there are, and the more leavers there are. I don't think there's anything wrong with someone playing the game because it looks interesting, or because they heard it's "like x game", but it does create a more casual, anonymous community. I think that paying the waiting penalty is probably necessary to help curb this in the short term. Start at something similar to the average time wasted in the "you failed" screen, or average time it normally takes to resurrect.

So I thought the Rhinda in the dark was kinda lazy but ok. It was the weakest of events so far for me. The fact unrelenting horde came with heavy sword for vet is my bias there, lot of fun. And here's the thing about the new one, I'm having a fucking blast fighting beast with a devil claw. That and just getting more live experience. The leaving thing is complicated but everything you said made sense. I think the only time i sometimes leave is when the last person goes down in hopes that the bot saves the day. Even then half the time I feel I should just take my lumps and move on to the next game. For the future, I feel a horde defense mode (with npc?) or a new faction type are the ideas that most excite me but I have actually really liked all the event things and if they are adding more in the Havoc update I'm still quite interested. Games gotten a really rough reception, but I'm starting to see more decent takes on the complicated affair of Darktide.

I don’t leave because I doubt other players' skills; I leave because I’m not waiting five minutes to be revived. Ideally, I’d wait 45 seconds, then assess based on proximity to the nearest spawn point. If the nearest spawn is too far, I leave. Imagine waiting five minutes to respawn in Call of Duty or Battlefield-I value my time more than waiting around to be respawned.

A leaver timer is best. For legitimate leavers, ur off doing something anyway. Only inconvenience is to illegitimate leavers. I agree with new enemy race needed. A lot of comments asking for a new class, but an alternative could be a 4th line to the skill tree for each current class. Up the lvl cap to 35. Make it cost 5-8 bucks. Make it interesting and unique like vermintides class dlc. Maby include a new class weapon in each pack. FS makes good money. And even people who cant afford it get the extra 5 levels for huge new build diversity. As you said DT needs the replay multipliers. Enemies, builds, class and game modes. Chaos wastes when? Or "warp incursions" xD looking forwatd to havoc.

Leaver timer is practically impossible: This game crashes and disconnects all the time, recently i can't even reconnect to the game that i was DCed of, because Darktide just crashes. And if fatshark puts timer on players, that just legitimately left the game - everyone will just start alt+f4.

My problem with people leaving has way less to do with the fact that they're leaving. I think the biggest problem is that the reconnect timer is longer than it needs to be. They leave you stuck with a useless bot for what seems like an eternity.

The thing that I don't really understand is Vox messages. Instead of teasing the playerbase with these messages, slowly revealing something huge and unexpected, showing an update teaser of some sort in the end, they just update the game and post these vox messages afterwards, or simply make them not leading to anything at all (the good ol' plasmagun!). Like, it is good to actually hear the moment Commisar Dukane arriving on Atoma, or the blight infecting the soldiers, or the messages about the heretical train, but we already know that. The event is over already, we've been playing the new mission for a week now, and everyone waved their hand at Dukane's post on Mourningstar. It's just tiny bits of lore now.

I’ve been playing since the Beta. Current DT is leagues better than launch or year after launch DT. But there is still a lot to be done. I’m excessively happy with the crafting update. That brought a lot of much needed life back into the game. Solo play is still missing, as are the new classes they said would could out quarterly. I know they went a much better route with the classes and skills, but new stuff would be nice. My main complaint is still the store. The cosmetics are overpriced, use a predatory FOMO system, and doesn’t allow you to earn premium currency like VT2 did. Oh, and I’m still waiting for an apology from that community manager who called us beta players “pearl clutchers” for being upset that new players got a shit tonne of Aquilas during a sale while all we got was a glitchy helmet that needed to be patched.

With regards to leaving/quitting - perhaps I'm hopelessly optimistic, but I don't leave until we're victorious, or buried in a pool of goo........I'm aware that I'm in a minority. That manner of player behaviour seems to be a "thing" more recently and in truth, I have no idea how I would combat that. Perhaps easing some of the penance requirements might decrease the incentives to leave but I feel as if the majority simply don't want to wait to be ressed, there's no real reason to play as a team for many (or they feel uncomfortable doing so) ergo, premades are incredibly rare.....at least in my experience. Again, that simply could be me. Now that FS fixed masteries and crafting, the most frequent requests appear to be for maps/weapons/classes and god knows we had to wait forever in VT2 for those additions. Havoc doesn't feel as if it's particularly enticing, especially if it mandates premades and hence marginalise the content for many solo players. I love Darktide but aside from a couple of niggling penances, I don't have a reason to play.....

I'd like the unique event reward (i.e. Rewards that aren't currencies and materials like the recent portait frame) to be unlocked at the mid point of the event reward tiers not the last one. This is because not everyone finds it fun, or even has time, to grind whatever metric of the week the event decides and so putting it at the mid point requires some effort while leaving the door open for if you want to grind the rest. Alternatively they could do what Sea of Thieves sometimes does by after the event those rewards get reallocated to existing penances so the FOMO element of the event is removed and considering how many penances don't give anything beyond points, they really need the extra rewards especially when the quality bar is very heavily skewed to the cash shop items over awards for people only bought the game.

More skill tree paths. Now time to talk about things that will NEVER happen. A Deathguard Space Marine bossfight, genestealers, maybe some slaeneshi daemons. A rocket launcher for zealot that will launch you into the air when you shoot it at your feet. A teleporter staff for psyker. Bare fists for ogryn. More mini bosses. Idk what, but i want more. In a way I feel like Quitters are practicing their own brand of etiquette. Because if they quit quick enough they're replaced with a Bot who is not downed. And eventually another player to replace the Bot. Yo my fav sloptide youtuber has posted! Personally - i don't like premium cosmetic shop and the lack of free good cosmetics (they are mostly just recolours of one set anyway). I also don't like that some weapon types are left almost useless by devs (shotguns, shredder autopistol) but they are slowly changing that. I also don't like when they have technical issues and then reset my graphics (at least warn us about before hand so we can screenshot our settings). I also hate that disablers can be silent sometimes. And nurgle blessed mod - giving enemies immunity to Impact is just stupid and removes half of melee mech from engaging with them. But da gaem is good. Don't care about leavers, don't care about events that much (sending people flying with assail kills on mutated enemies is funny tho), but the best way to keep people in is to give people that are waiting something to do. How about if you are in custody for 10/15/20/25 seconds you get to play as a servoskull, tagging resources and enemies, helping a bit to the people that are left without your direct impact? And if you are clutching - you still have extra 3 pairs of eyes to watch for disablers and other unfun stuff. We can even give servo-skulls some minor ability like 1 use stun to get the dog off the friendly, auspex to show enemies in a small radius like exec stance of vet can do, maybe even placing a very small wall shield like psyker for a cover?

Darktide is great at the things it does well. The melee mechanics is so much better than anything else I've ever played (granted I never played Vermintide). The way specials co-operate against you. The way enemies seek to flank Havoc is a great idea. That it's coming pushed me to start playing Auric. Grandfathers' gifts are so great! It should really be the standard way enemies look and work though. Just make it the standard please.

Feel ya about the quitters. Most of my measly 200hours in Darktide was with a full premade friend group but they never want to play the game as long as I do, or more than they have to for an event/weekly contract, so recently I went into quickplay for the first time. The party finder was dead, there was nothing there, and about 80% of the games there was at least one leaver, usually multiple. Leaver penalties could work, but that might lead into more toxicity if the players with an ego feel like theyre forced to stick with a bad team.
@glasscannon18153 күн бұрын
The auric achievement trait is easily the most desired and they lynchpin to people dropping like flies from cat difficulty. It's kind of hard to dump it at this point but they should just change how it functions. Maybe even do a reverse uno somehow and make it simpler yet motivate people stay in. Like complete 10 auric cat missions from start to finish and cut out the dying part for the achievement and boom you would be getting people sticking around like glue.
@tacticaladobo89674 күн бұрын
There's also another reason why people leave the game. There's a trick where you alt-f4 the game you can reconnect back to the session again. As long as the bot doesn't die while you're gone you'll come back with at least half hp and you won't be in a downed state or captured by the trappers net anymore. It's a cheap trick but it has a bigger chance for the session not to fail since the bot can still fight while you're trying to re-log again.

They need to make the penalty for failing a mission less awful. No one is excited to waste 40+ minutes of their time because the PUG you landed in is not ready for Auric or Maelstrom. I agree a better hub would also help foster better sense of community, the morningstar doesn't have anything in it to facilitate interactions between players, no bar, no virtual heretic shooting range. Quitters are awful especially in auric lobbies, I still stand by my opinion of this that this is caused by the titles, auric exemplar/auric storm survivor, since if you get downed you can just quit quickly before you die and you don't lose progression And people who aren't good enough to get the titles legitimately try to force these through, hope to get carried through them, etc. Yesterday in particular I had a spree of what I'd call "spiteful" leavers, people who would throw the game on purpose after doing poorly all match, aka, they trigger the DH and leave, since the DH won't go after the bot, it will go after another player

You mentioned league of legends and leaver block and I'm not sure if this is what you meant but I've played league and alongside the systems where you get penalties for leaving (artificially increased que times, bans on playing etc which I do agree does feel overly harsh for a game like this) the client will just... stop you from entering matchmaking while the match you left is still going. Just blacks out the entire client with the only thing remaining being a big "reconnect" button. Wouldn't punish people who have to go for real life stuff since by the time that wraps either the match you left is done or its not and you hop back in, and would incentivize people to stick games out since they would be waiting anyways. I do agree though that the simplest way is to just cut down on the amount of time a failed match takes to wrap up.

Whether it's more like Gunfire Reborn/Roboquest/etc where you get new random perks/skills/items that make your character stronger, or it's more like PoE, where you can select negative map modifiers to make it more challenging that way. The other problem is resources. Don't get me wrong - the crafting update is fantastic - but what do you do with plasteel, diamantine, dockets, and coins once you have all the weapons crafted? We're going to need something else to spend these resources on. And it seems like you're just ranting on how bad the events are and aren't giving any opinions on what you'd like more of in them. Yes more events more often would be great, but that's not an improvement in the events themselves. For example, while I love the gameplay, I do think its missing a lot of the story element. If they could make the events with the goal being defeating a boss or something and you have to chase them or foil their plans through several games "themed" around the "villain" kind of like the events were so far but with specific obiectives. The special mission format is a good example. But instead on one mission I'm talking like 4+ missions(which can be already existing missions, just with something extra like the villain showing up to thwart you and dropping clues on what the next mossion could be) that you complete in an order that unlocks the next mission for you and gives some extra rewards when completed the first time or complete x amount of missions with whatever conditions to find the "villain", switch the condition. An event "special mission" so to speak. I understand that it might be more challenging to make, but it's actual content, not just reskinnied models and more enemy bosses. It could also place a focus on certain characters like the special mission does, just in a more extended manner. Models - The beast of nurgle is kind of a bad design, but it's not horrible, I guess. Adding another model that doesn't take up a whole map would be nice I guess? The ugly: Leavers - bad players that think they're good and kids. Auric storm survivor death not counting if you leave isn't helping. That's an easy fix with the title and placing a time penalty on maelstrom missions after leaving like 5 min or something.

Well, it's coming to PS5. So for me it's perfect. In some ways I get to play the game as it was intended from the start. Looking forward playing the game

hey all, leaving a game shouldnt be punished tbh. its just pain playing with ppl that wait u to do everything. auric missions gonna be pain with ppl that doesnt max out their weapons and also missing curios thats the ppl that just hit lvl 30 and looking for a boost, wich wont be me for sure cause that is just punishement for me. if i play on the hardest difficulty i come prepared and bring something to the table.

I leave the game cause team made mistakes and its boring to watching one person run call of duty zombies for 10 minutes. In a truly rounded team, no one should need to clutch in pubs. Plus new teammates drop in for them to help them out. Ive dropped into games where someone left and we won.

Weapons crafting and itemization was great, but I thought the extended weapon customization would be included too. Vt2 worked with some great mods to roll them into the actual game. Still waiting 🙏🙏
