Fatshark Scout Auto Power Off & Image Distortion (Dropping Frames) - FPV Goggles

Love flying FPV? Me too! That's why I'm starting to notice some problems with the Fatshark Scout video feed when the reception is weak. Also, I've had the goggles turn off while flying due to the "auto off" feature being enabled! In this video we'll do a fairly detailed side-by-side comparison of the FPV video feed breakup characteristics between the Scouts and my old Eachine Goggles2.

Hey Adam, I just got a pair and have the exact same problem (the receiver on my ev800's is better, at least the break up is not so disorientating). Have you found any kind of fix? I saw someone suggesting changing the camera to NTSC, have you tried that? BTW, my firmware version is 0001.0032.0058, but it doesn't seem like there is a firmware update available from Fatshark. I might email their support and see what they have to say about it...

I got mine 4 days ago and so far I have to say they are working great. Compared to my old ev800s the reception and picture is better

This looks like someone is tuning the TV antennae. From back in the days of free to air TV channels here in India.

Yea that is one thing I don't like about the Scout's. It's not just your goggles, mine are the same. I also have the EV800d's and they don't loose frames like the Scouts. I disabled the auto shut-off on mine also.

Hi Adam !I had a black screen!! The result= Crash -> Cracked bottom Plate of my GepRC Mark2. Damaged Buzzer so i couldn't hear my low voltage on the next flight, so quad lost all the power. Not good news for the Battery cells either. WTF! Couple of days passed but No response from fatshark yet. Glad i found you again! You do great Job Pal!! PS. I don't have this media offline error but I didn't try to rec yet. too many problems at the moment for that.

I have the same issue with the auto power off, the reception issue I am not having that, that looks like more like an issue with the VTX not the goggles, also the media red screen is from Davinci Resolve. To fix the red media screen you need to optimize your media(i.e. The individual clips) before your render the project. I was going to do a video of the auto power off myself but you covered it so I'll skip that video.

I have those frozen frames too when my signal is weak. It’s not the normal static it like freezes and makes it scary to fly

This is how you fix the dropped framed from appearing as Media Offline in Davinci Resolve. I finally got the issue when using a whip antenna with a new build. Find the FPV footage in the Davinci Resolve timeline. In Davinci Resolve right click the timeline and click on Clip Attributes. Once you have do this change the frame rate from 59.94 to 60 FPS. I am going to be making a video and releasing it tonight or tomorrow on this.

Hola compañero, tengo estas gafas desde hace unos meses. Tengo problemas con pantallazos en blanco y estado cerca del dron y a campo abierto. También me pasa como a Ti, cambios de imagen y saltos...estoy bastante decepcionado, sí hay alguna forma de solucionar el problema, esperó tu ayuda. Al final sigo mejor volando con la eachine Ev800,estas gafas si que rinden bien por el precio que tiene. Pensaba en que evolucionaria con las fat shark scout y veo que me quedo con mis viejas gafas eachine Ev800,me da muchísima seguridad. Bueno un saludo desde España. Un like grande.

I just got a pair yesterday and first flight while testing, image froze on me when reception got poor. Not good. My Viper FXT is Diversity as well and does not do this. Easier to push through a snowy image rather than a frozen one. Is there a fix for this??

Adam I do not have these but have a couple suggestions since it says "Media Offline" which sounds like an issue with the recording media, the SD card. Like the SD card is not able to quickly record the video and the buffer fills then is unable to continually transmit video to the screen. 1 - Take the SD card and reformat it, then try it. 2 - If that didn't help try a different SD card making sure it is fast enough for video recording.

I got a pair of the scouts in a package deal. My buddy had the cheap $50 E Max goggles that came in his Tiny Hawk II kit. He wanted a DVR so he picked up a set of scouts yesterday. We have noticed the range on the Scouts is terrible. Both our sets are comparable and where we have horrible break ups practically making us crash his $50 set of E-Max's still has a useable signal SERIOUSLY!

Yes. I can confirm Emax goggles has good range and you can fly even with bad video. no owful breakups.

Also your Scouts are recording at 60fps where as your other DVR is recording at 30fps. So you are going to see more bad frames than you other DVR.

I have exactly the same issue. I'm very disappointed that fatshark still sell them . Its basically unusable . It was my first and Last fatshark purchase

Same! I was pushing so much myself not to go with this Brand but on the beginning had great specs, good reviews and the best value for money. All the repair costs from those crashes that i had because i was freaking out, it was wisher to go for golden ones :D and i would be problems free of those.

Does anyone experience a strange charging indicator change? Ex. Every time when i charge them and the light goes green, if i come close it becomes red, so begin charging again. The second time i bring my hand closer and the 3rd time it turned red just before i touched the usb cable. The last time indicator light changing colours while i was moving slightly the usb connector.

I'll make a second comment on the Media Offline. The media offline is because you need to optimize your media clips. It is an issue of format encoding compatibility.

I've had these since they came out.. looks like vtx problems cuz I've never seen that before. I recently added rapidfire to mine for increased range.

Yep...my fatshark has the same problems..i just turn of the auto shut off.... I also get the rolling shutter picture and frame skipping when bad reception..i think switching to ntsc makes the problem less obvious, but you loose the resolution over pal..

eachine vr006 modified by installing eaching pro 58 and 4000maH 1s battery works best for me, planning to install the eachine dvr as well but not sure how to do it yet.

Hi! There is definitely a sort of issue with the Goggle's performance that I dislike. I did address the other points my video.

@@RCwithAdam1 The problem is with the VTX not the google. With a higher refresh rate and higher FPS in the DVR you just bring the issue you are having with the VTX to the forefront. I had VR006 googles with an eachine DVR. Switched to the FatShark Scouts and started noticing similar issues. I fly three different quads and it only happens on one quad. That means it was something on the quad not the googles. Traced it down to being bad ground connections. You are going to have to debug you quad setup wiring and solder. visit my channel I have a video coming on this in the next few weeks.

@@TeamCrashRC I looked on your channel and couldn't see anything about how to improve the ground connections on the VTX. It certainly is the goggles: I don't have the same problem with my ev800's. It seems like, as Adam suggested in his video, that the problem is how the receiver on the Scout's handles loss of signal-- its almost like it drifts off channel or something, in any case, the break up is very disorientating and has caused me to crash in places I never otherwise would have using the ev800's.
