I think I've finally fixed that annoying flashing that has plagued my videos for some time... Anyways, this guitar was modified tastefully - I like it. Check it out here: reverb.com/item/14220611-custom-hand-aged-2016-gibson-les-paul-w-hsc-and-coa?_aid=growsumo&gs_partner=Trogly

I did something very similar with a 70s tribute (has the volute). Gave the maple cap a walnut stain then scraped the faux binding in. I did an oil finish though not high gloss. I went with burstbucker 1 in the neck and BB 2 at the bridge. Am very happy with the outcome.

Luv my Sudio... It plays like butter and the finish is already showing wear from sweat and being played hard.. Pobably could use binding but never notice it during a jam...

Gibson ought to take note and offer their own version of this modification. Harley Davidson paid attention to what customizers were doing and incorporated those mods into some of their more successful models. I use this comparison as both companies had times in the 1970s when (after being sold to corporate parent companies) quality became questionable. Harley had its AMF era, Gibson had its Norlin era, and even Fender had its CBS era. I'd rock this studio LP!
@danielsweetman5676 жыл бұрын
Yeah good point. But if gibson made studio LPs as nice as this, particularly with such a nice faux binding, it'd likely take away sales of their more expensive models.

Faux binding is better than no binding, but it's a shame the scrape job (or tape job) on this guitar looks amateurish.

I’d love to see Gibson do a standard finish option like this on new instruments, of course they’d either screw it up or else charge another $700 for the masking tape trick... But I’d rock this.

Heck Yeah. I own 2 2016 Les Paul Studio Faded. A T in Worn Cherry & an HP in Worn Brown Satin. And what sold me was the pick-ups in them. But my limit is $800. I'm a bedroom rocker,lol.

I have a 2016 Faded Studio in brown I bought on Ebay. Like new, and was surprised when I got it that it had the Tronical tuning system! (it was not mentioned and pics only showed nickel/chrome tuning machines which matched Burst buckers.) This Studio has the neck carved to be blended into the body for greater access at the higher frets. It looks factory, and really makes a difference for those with smaller hands. Has anyone else seen this neck blended into the body on a Studio? Or any Gibson? It was a first for me. It came in a Gator travel case as well! I like the Binding look! +++

I see that Gibson called that the AXCESS neck

I would rock it for sure . I also think that at the low price of that Lp Studio when it was new . this is a GREAT way to get a vintage look and vibe from a new guitar . One shouldn't do this to a high end axe , dahhh. This is IMO . GREAT video as usual !

My goldtop tribute came with a pronounced low spot on the top, so I stripped the top, repainted it yellow and painted on a cream 1/4 X 1/16 off white lacquer spray binding edge. P90s, so top plastic was changed to black, and added speed knobs! Top is glossy now, as is headstock. Rest of guitar remains factory satin finish. Other problems corrected. Gibson can kiss my a** on this project. It's like a Les Paul junior in color, but mine is a full blown LP!

Do you think you could make a video talking about the aging process on gibsons? Like what factors, how long it takes, etc. My 1998 SG Standard is starting to show some hairline aging cracks on the back, (yay) but theres really only wear, where my arm rests on the front aside from obvious dings. I've had it for 5 years but have only seriously gigged with it for about 8 months. So I'm guessing the aging process can go pretty quick for a frequent player? Thanks!

Honestly that's the most inexpensive mod you can do to a studio, all you need its a razor blade and precision. If then you wanna put some lacquer on after, then you would be spending around 15 to 20 bucks total. Upgrading the pickups it's another couple hundred so it's really not worth paying $1,300 for a studio with minimal mods. Even with nitrocellulose lacquer its less than 50 bucks. As for the relic/ageing, play the damn thing and sure enough you'll get it

These are some great mods and pretty nicely done (though the binding seems sloppy at certain places, especially on the left side of the top). However, I would never buy from a person that has "It plays as well as a custom shop reissue, but costs a fraction of the price" in the description. Also, nice mods or not, they don't add to the value and at best it should cost as much as a new faded. It's pretty, though.
@collinkatz87926 жыл бұрын
I get what you mean. However, I can tell you with 100% confidence that it plays like a custom shop. I own a lp standard, sg supreme, sg Supra, Es les paul, 1960 reissue, etc. it keeps up with all of them. I am only selling it because I have so many Gibson’s lol. I can’t keep them all.
@zepp18326 жыл бұрын
Absolutely rock it. I think $1k tops for it though. To me, studios are just a step up from a Les Paul Jr. Shouldn’t be over $1000

It is very nice looking, I love the natural wood look especially if it's a dark finish. If this was under $1,000 I would probably purchase. Austin, Im not sure if I told you or not but that Menace guitar I purchased I also purchased his other Studio, that reddish looking one? Anyway, I got that the other day and could not be more pleased. I love that cherry dye he used and the body seems thinner than most Studio's and even the neck seems slimmer. Was that usual for that year Studio's (1999) to have a thinner body and slimmer neck? Neither guitar are what I would call first rate refinishes, there are a few blemishes here and there but nothing major. That faux binding? Man, I love it way more than the regular binding! Anyways, another good video... man I wish that was under a grand lol.
@alabamahebrew6 жыл бұрын
Actually now that you mention it yes it does have the smaller headstock. The original tuners have been replaced with Sperzel tuners though. And yes the inlays are also smaller.

Whilst I applaud the seller, or the finisher (did I just use whilst in a sentence), for the faux binding technique, the stain appears to be blotchy. This is a common issue with lesser grade, or softer wood. I’ll probably get killed for saying this, but if this were a piece of furniture, and I was the finisher, to my standards this would be unacceptable. I think wood of this grade and type, in my opinion, should be covered with a solid color. Then you can apply the faux binding technique. You see this on the off the shelf, run of the mill guitars. So, my complaint is more with the manufacturer than with person who did this job. I know, I’ve said this before here on this channel, but I can’t understand why for the money that a Gibson costs, they cannot put a better grade of a top wood on their guitars. Sorry, just my humble opinion for what it’s worth. BTW, I own a studio and they’re absolutely great guitars for the money. Mine is a silverburst.
