You are both so talented, I live in an old timber cottage and I think the faux brick backsplash would go in my kitchen as well. Something to consider. Thank you for sharing.

You should use Vaseline on the edge of the floor when painting next to the floor (a Q-tip works great), paint won't stick and is easy - to - wipe off. I would still put down painter's tape also. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Hi I am new to your channel. My hubby and I have been in our home we built in 1992, we need to start doing some upgrades. I like the brick backsplash. I will be interested to see how it is to keep clean. I look forward to seeing more of your projects.

Hi Sandie! Welcome and thank you for subscribing! Upgrades are exciting! It's a very easy project but time consuming. We're putting bricks throughout our home to make it appear as if it's exposed brick and make the home seem older. It was built in 2001 and we've been here since. It was time for us to renovate as well. We're discovering that it stays quite clean, but I want to seal in the kitchen to be sure, soon. So far, it's been doing well however, and we cook a lot! 😊Thank you!

Are the bricks made of spackle? I like the look and am thinking of doing this? And your paint choice, are you using flat or egg shell?
@brambleberrycottage9 ай бұрын
Hi there! The bricks are made with joint compound. I used flat paint. Thank you! That's great! It takes time to dry and is time consuming for a few days, but well worth it! We have an episode, our first real video we did a couple of years ago that explains the process. Hope that helps! Here's the link to that video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5TOgJqQh6mHd68si=Z-LB83XeysxBwlc2

Beautiful!! Would you care to list out step by step what you did to achieve this look? Did you put joint compound over the brick panels and then paint? And for the final white cost is that white paint? If compound?
@brambleberrycottage Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thank you so much!! We have an original video showing our technique in one of our first videos, " Realistic Faux brick wall UNDER $50- Kitchen renovation". It's our second posted video and we break down the process. These weren't panels, we made the bricks using joint compound over a grid of masking tape, peeled off the tape in sections while still wet after mudding, and painted the bricks after all bricks were completely dried. This can take up to 2-3 days (to dry) depending on how thick you layer the joint compound. We've discovered since that first episode, when we've placed more bricks around our home, to go much thicker. The final coat is a flat white paint or you can use a white chalk paint. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. ❤️

I cannot believe the patience you two have (and creativity!). I have never seen this process before. Lovely. Maybe a little slower with your camera when panning around the room.

Thank you very much! We'll work on slowing down more when panning around the rooms we do. We've been trying to make more recent videos less dizzying. Trying, lol. That feedback is much appreciated. ☺️

It’s been 3+ months. Can you give an honest review of the brick surface in terms of any staining, discoloring, cooking splatters, grease build-up, etc. What’s the best-so-far cleaner to use on the brick? Thanks so much 👍 ps: ‘Backsplash looks SO beautiful, loving your aesthetic!
@brambleberrycottage Жыл бұрын
Be glad to! The bricks are holding up very well! I have noticed right directly behind the stove/oven there is a slight discoloration but nothing dramatic. We decided not to put a protective coat on the bricks as of yet, as a polyurethane can sometimes yellow a white paint color under that layer. I have done polyurethane over white paint before and it does yellow the white paint a bit. I have cleaned it lightly with a Simple Green cleaner concentrate and water solution. I didn't scrub hard and I also don't deep fry foods, so the way I cook may have something to do with it. The white paint used was a satin based paint, I wouldn't recommend a flat paint application as a kitchen paint color for a backsplash. We haven't had any grease build-up as I don't cook in a way that would make a ton of grease. Side note: I would also say make sure candles are soy based as well, if you burn candles in your home, so you don't get that soot on bricks. Great question! Hope that helps! Thanks for saying that too. We appreciate that!! 🥰

What kind of tape do you recommend and what type of product are you using is it joint compound or plaster of Paris? And how did you know to how to size the spacing?
@brambleberrycottage Жыл бұрын
Great questions! We bought lots of masking tape from Walmart that's 3/4" wide. It's joint compound. The size is really up to you. We had some bricks outdoors for various projects and used that as a template for size. You could also get a measurement online where they sell bricks. You'll need a pencil and ruler or chalk-line (we use the chalk-line method) as well as a level to check. Depending on the size of your space, you may need one or two 5 gallon buckets of joint compound. It's time consuming but the result is well worth it! Make sure you leave 1-3 days for drying time after the joint compound is applied and take that tape off as you go while it's still wet (after a few sections, so it doesn't dry on). Hope that helps.

Did you put a clear coat to protect from splashes and dirt?
@brambleberrycottage Жыл бұрын
We didn't. We were worried about not protecting it, but we've lived with it for awhile, and it's been holding up well, however, I think it's a wonderful idea, it doesn't hurt to do so! I may in the future. 😊

@brambleberrycottage7 ай бұрын
The one before that was a faux stone panel, where we tried to get that "stone look". Panels are tough because they show seams and look fake, plus they can be pricey. This is an inexpensive solution and looks and feels more realistic. But, thanks for the comment.

Hi, Is it water proof?
@brambleberrycottage25 күн бұрын
@@kristinaallen5831 Hi! Great question! Well, it's water resistant depending on the paint you use. You can also seal it with a polyurethane, but we didn't feel the need to and with some polyurethanes, it could yellow. It has stood the test of time for about two years now here. Hope that helps!
