Learn how to make a “Faux Prong Setting” with the Tiffany Soft Solder Method!
TOOLS:
- BeadSmith flush wire cutter
- BeadSmith channel nose pliers
- Xuron tweezer nose pliers
- Beadalon nylon jaw pliers
- Hakko FX601 soldering iron Amazon.com
- Burnishing tool (popsicle stick, smooth stone, bone or Agate burnisher, etc)
- Disposable brush (trim bristle head) Any hardware store
- Personal safety mask, eye ware & a fan
- Heat resistant mat
- Chain nose pliers dedicated to soldering!!!****IMPORTANT as flux will affect these tools
- Wire cutter as needed
MATERIALS:
- Silvergleem lead-free soft solder Amazon
- Old Master’s All Purpose Flux
- Copper foil (many different type’s depending on your project) Amazon
- 70% rubbing alcohol to pre-clean all items that will be soldered
- Paper towels for clean up
- Dawn dish soap for cleanup

❤ I love this idea. I've only just started soft soldering for a couple weeks now, but I haven't mastered how to get the solder to smooth over the copper foil without showing the folds or creases, even the smallest ones.

I am learning did you say silver gleem is better when you don't want to patina due to it having silver in it? And use lead free soldier for stuff you want to patina. Kathy from Cali. 😎

ALWAYS use lead-free solder regardless! I use Silvergleem when I’m not planning on applying BLACK patina because Silvergleem is way more expensive & If I’m planning on using BLACK patina why waste the expensive solder as any other solder besides Silvergleem is good enough for the BLACK patina look! But if I’m planning on using Copper patina I will use Silvergleem because I get way better copper effects & I believe it’s BECAUSE of the silver (around 4%) content. I’ve tried other solders for the copper patina application & it was a complete fail.

Oh ok! I wasn’t familiar with zinc metal jewelry & learned something today! I guess the flux would definitely be compatible with zinc but I’m always looking for products that won’t tarnish easily! I’m experimenting with aluminum blanks for rings & bracelets right now because they won’t tarnish & you can stamp on them too! I made a tutorial making a bracelet with aluminum blanks & planning on making a tutorial for a ring soon! Do you use zinc jewelry?

@@nstyle-jewelry524 I actually looked into zinc flux & there are several other products cheaper then the one I’m using now. Zinc is also used in stain glass. Amazon has several different brands
