407, not 3. But yeah that's the lowest end I'll go. Apparently they have a lot of QC and CS issues now but only 2 out of about 8 Holosun optics I've got have ever had an issue and they got me a new one within a week. One was usable but the - button didn't quite work right. Only one was ever unusable, with a shifting zero. They're damn durable too, that's my gripe with budget (and even high price) pistol red dots. Fragility.

I highly agree and recommend dry firing your handgun with a red dot sight so that you can become accustomed to sight acquisition with the optic. I do this routinely just for a couple of minutes and that keeps me comfortable with a red dot while in between range sessions. As always, real range time will help but dry firing for sight acquisition will make a massive difference for those who want to get use to their new red dot optic.

@p51mustang248 ай бұрын
407/507 series are an excellent value and well made, the biggest downside is that the glass is really "deep" so there is a huge space for dust and debris to build up and its harder to clean than some other dots because it is so deep. I had to get rid of mine for concealed carry, too much body hair and other stuff gets in there. Needs cleaning every 3 hours. For OWB or duty style carry I would 100% recommend. 509T is also excellent, but the auto-brightness doesnt work as well as the SCS (SCS auto brightness is perfection). SCS is great but the window is small. With some experience, I only recommend enclosed emitters for IWB now. Otherwise just go irons. Bodily debris becomes an issue, especially if you are hairy. It's going to get skin, dust, and oils in there too. I would like to try the EPS, it's not rated for dust resistance or to the same shock value as the 509T though. 509T has a much better window than the Aimpoint ACRO, even if the acro may have slightly better glass. You can get some versions of the 403 for under $200 if you look around, its an excellent value. the 403 is also good for rifle offsets.

I compared my groups with a red dot & with iron sights at 25 yards off-hand. Same size. My Canik TP9 SFX has 3 trigger mods & likes Blaser Brass. The only advantage the red dot gives me is it's easier to see when my eyes get tired after an hour plus of shooting with irons. I won't put them on my carry guns or house guns. I do like that CTS-1550 & if I get another range gun it's probably that one.

I put the 3 MOA dot version in the Mete. Try the dot zeroed at 25 yards. The irons are set for a 6 o’clock hold on a 6” target at 25 yards. Use it like a lower 1/3 co-witness. Absolute Co-witnessing the irons and dots will miss high in the 25 to 50 yard range.
@MoonInPisces19628 ай бұрын
7:06 "if you are shooting within 25 yards at a man size target, you don't need a red dot". Absolutely right! That is why I don't have a red dot on my pistol.😊 If you are shooting beyond 25 yards, a handgun is an inferior firearm.

CT series red dots, the newer ones, they are all fantastic. anywhere from 1 to 3 moa, unless green which I think is 5? The rad pro is outright insanely good for the price, then there is the big rad max and rad pro micro. The cts 1500 is good. And I really like the cts1000. Cause 1moa. Okay, looks like some of my info is out of date here. Cause the cts1000 is no longer on the page. So... grab one of those if you want a1moa scope style red dot, no mag. And it looks like the 1200 I think it is no longer is available, which had a side battery try vs a remove to replace battery tray.

This CT dot is decent enough for folks to practice with. However it has enough drawbacks that I wouldn't recommend anyone carry it on their EDC. It's definitely a good stepping stone though.
@p51mustang248 ай бұрын
I really recommend just getting an enclosed emitter for EDC. Open emitters get filthy with IWB carry, sometimes daily cleaning isn't enough. I would happily try the CT on a static home defense gun though, maybe even for a rifle offset. Most people can't put $400-$500 optics on multiple pistols. 509T x2 is my go-to for EDC. Yes, it's worth it.

@bombsaway63408 ай бұрын
Pretty hard to buy a semi handgun that doesn’t have an optics ready cut. For my defensive kit, don’t plan on putting on the firearm. Have a couple of the more expensive options on combat handguns, and they do take training to use effectively. Great review
@leehardesty328 ай бұрын
You might check out the Gideon optics as a line of value scopes. Little more expensive.
@TrentFalkenrath8 ай бұрын
With respect, I don't think this is a particularly good combat optic. I feel this is the best first-time pistol red dot. The best thing it can do is teach you if ya want a red dot on your pistol. It's very affordable, it elevates one's precision shooting, and yes, it's a really good night sight replacement. However, it's still just polymer, no brightness adjustments, and ya gotta take the dot off the gun to replace the battery, thus potentially ruining the zero. Therefore, in my opinion, these drawbacks make it unsuitable for duty use. But that doesn't mean it isn't a great value option for people who just want to give red dots a try. That, I believe, is its true POU.
