This was exceptional . I loved the rawness and honesty . No hate to mami jee at all , this is how our parents are and this is our culture . But she has the guts to stay true to herself and admit it - that helps open up convos . She’s not in denial and she’s doing the best that she can . The truth is that all parents do have favorites but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love Ahmed . Ahmed did a great job of communicating his feelings but he was interrupted a lot so pls next time let him finish his thought . Great episode

I agree. I commend mamaji for having this type of conversation. She was raw, open and takes ALOT of guts to come on a platform and have your kids give you their opinion of your parenting. Our parents weren’t perfect people and having conversations like this will help us all understand one another. Idk, something about hearing you all talk helped me understand the generation before me. Thank you

Bro its way more complicated. She ain't dividing her love. Its like her eldest child isn't taking responsibilities of the family as wajeeh is doing. Its more about understanding gaps and grey areas rather than the whole image being white and black.

10:09 Ahmed is absolutely right. None of them would have the platform that they currently have without him. His online presence and early KZbin stuff paved the way for them to be able to talk about their feelings on a podcast every week. A little bit disappointing for Mama Jee to not even acknowledge that but we all know how desi moms can be when it comes to this stuff!

I could never. If a parents has to constantly remind you s a kid of everything they did, they chose to have the kid the kid didn't ask to be born. I know dynamics are never perfect, but parents that push kids to take on roles that aren't for kids, are not it and never will be

Being a mum of 4 kids and finding time to address each personality is a full time job. Mum guilt is real. It’s draining being that parent who always puts kids first then to realise a child has trauma. Please be mindful we parents are humans and we will and do make mistakes. Conversations like these help us navigate a way forward. I pray our kids can heal and make amendments and make memories that will fill their hearts. Duas for Mama jee and her boys x

I feel like this must have been so therapeutic for Ahmed. Being the first child of immigrant parents u get hit with an immense load of responsibilities and expectations as well as the expectation for u to step in for your mother’s emotional needs and being treated like a third parent basically. The need to prove ur self to recive the same amount of care and love younger siblings recive unconditionally. Ur held to much higher standards. This creates a sort of disconnect with the parent and to desi moms it translates to you being ungrateful and not loving them. And still at the end of the day whatever u do you’re just never enough. So grateful to my parents for all their sacrifices but these are some things I can never make them understand. Seeing Ahmed have this conversation feels so healing as an oldest child myself! ❤️

I don’t think so. It’s obligatory for children to be dutiful to their parents. Even if their parents are toxic it’s important to take care of them even if that means living in a separate house to them. This is what it says in the religion Islam. Taking care of parents especially in their old age is a must. You can see how mama g had her struggles, you can see the hard work and effort she put into her children. She deserves to be retired with the help of her sons. Mothers have their own special place and wife’s also have their own special place. If Allah is in the centre of a persons heart they will know exactly how to navigate through the wife/mother relationship and remain calm and neutral.

I think youtube was the best thing to happen to both of your lives, its giving ahmed a whole different story to tell about "managing business" and do mba etc

I know certain topics in this matter of conversation is SO important, but I love that these men take advantage of sitting with their mom and asking tough life questions and getting to know each other more as time moves on. Take the time to spend time with your parent/s, guardian etc. Tomorrow is not promised.
