I’m in the midst of rewatching all of the modern era of Doctor Who and just finished Capaldi’s time (taking in Caecilius with a detour to Torchwood: Children of Earth along the way). The 12th Doctor had wonderful character development, not at all the same from start to finish, nor were we. It is tempting to want to see more but I’ll leave that to books, comics and my imagination.

Solid choices. I gotta go with Capaldi, Eccleston, Pertwee, and Hartnell myself.
@James.B.Russell10 ай бұрын
I need to watch more Pertwee, but I loved him in Three Doctors (one of a few of his stories I've seen) and I love his dynamic with Troughton. Your picks are great choices. It's too easy to pick Tom Baker and Tennant as favorites, sure, but I also feel the way Tennant was written gave off a bit of an ego which I generally prefer the Doctor not to have. While I like the Troughton/Smith jovial end of the Doctor spectrum, I tend to like more of the Hartnell/Eccleston/Capaldi side: grumpy and stern at times, but very wise, occasionally silly, and always saving people. I can't deny that the energy of the Tennant/Smith era, when the show reached the peak of its popularity, gave it a sense of action and pace. But to me (speaking as an American), Doctor Who works as a more niche property anyway. I like what Capaldi gave us and he truly felt like the completion of the Doctor as a character. I only wish the writing were a tad bit better to accommodate his gravitas, and tied everything up much better into a neat bow. So much remained open and was never explored properly in the subsequent era. It's sad, but I still think the 50th Anniversary was the turning point because by the time we get to some great stories like Heaven Sent, the fan base seemed just a little emptier.

I was introduced to Doctor Who around the end of Smith’s era and watched many of Capaldi’s episodes as they released. I’m currently watching classic who for the first time and I absolutely love how the 3rd doctor is (and his teacher dynamic with Jo Grant) The 2nd doctor was great (loved the chemistry with Jamie), but I’m not really enjoying the 4th too much. 4th has his moments where he shines, but I absolutely did not enjoy his moments with Leela.
