My thought about that was that since they are a completely different civilization, they don't give certain words the same weight that we give them, nor care about gender distinctive words, once the doctor said that he could be a king or a queen, giving us to understand that the title wasn't a problem to him nor the gender it's referring to, a woman could be a king and a man a queen, so why could women be lords? also, it's very probable that the time lords have their own word for "lord" that refers to both males and females, but when translated to English it becomes "lord" to refer to them in general, for humans the word lord is used to refer to males but it could be completely different for other species.
@DoctorWhoKage4 жыл бұрын
@@pierocubertino5845 that makes the Time Lords' language a little similar to French, Spanish, Italian and other languages that assign genders to inanimate objects.
@pierocubertino58454 жыл бұрын
@@DoctorWhoKage I'm from South America, a Spanish native speaker, in my country we say things like "la cama" which translates to "the bed", and "el sol" which translates to "the sun", notice how in English is "the" for both the bed and the sun? it's because "the" is a gender-neutral word used to indicate things, meanwhile, in Spanish, we have words like "la" that gives a female connotation to things and/or people, examples, "la niña" (the girl), la pieza (the room or the bedroom), la mujer (the woman), while "el" gives a male connotation to things and/or people, examples, el niño (the boy), el vehiculo (the vehicle), el hombre (the man), and as you can see when those are translated from Spanish to English, the "object" loses the "gender" indicated by the first word. That's what I tried to indicate in my comment, that maybe, just maybe, in the language of the time lords, their words are gender-neutral, as in they have a word to refer to all the time lords regardless of gender, however, when the word is translated, it becomes "lord" from the English human language, which is a word we instantly relate with males, while in reality, the word the time lords use in their native language indicates time lords as individuals instead of making allusion to a specific gender. In my understanding, is not uncommon that some languages have words that have no meaning or an equivalent word in another language, so in translation, the closest word is used, or just the word from the original language, and considering that the time lords are far more advanced than the human race and about any other species in the universe, it's not unlikely that they have words that lose their meaning in translation or words that can't be properly translated to our "primitive" (from their point of view) language.
@DoctorWhoKage4 жыл бұрын
@@pierocubertino5845 also, probably the older languages of Earth have words that are lost in translation, too. In fact, those languages have a larger list of words that are lost in translation because nobody or *next to* nobody speaks them anymore. To be fair, it has been at least about a thousand and a half years since then not counting the Time War. Due to Time Lord Syncing rules (bearing in mind that Time Lord rules are usually referred to as laws of physics), Time Lords can only visit a synced-up version of Gallifrey under normal circumstances, so Doc's age is a pretty good marker for their development. Mind you, they're also super stagnant, but shhshshshhhshhh. Also The First Doctor had been hanging around with mid-20th-century dudes for tooooo long and really went native haha... Interestingly, those syncing rules are why Doc always meets time travellers in the right order except in weird circumstances. River is a good example; whichever way you come at it, she only gets to exist if she's running a bit backwards, and she's vitally important to the universe via a fixed point so she can't just be paradoxed out. Also why The Doctor and The Master are always about the same age. I'm assuming here that Heaven Sent still counts as about a week of DocTime, not like a bajillion years.

The first doctor's characterization was very off, but that line was right on. He actually says that to Susan in an old story
@clockworkkirlia74755 жыл бұрын
@@loderlied Kayley's right about that; I am aware of that having been said. I think most of the specific jokes are predicated on that very line, and Hartnell's own attitudes. However, honestly, I think the overall tone of his characterisation was to reflect upon, critique, and satirise the old beliefs that most older men of the era did hold, and show how much further we've come. Doctor Who has always been about showing progress; whether you agree with that progress or not, it has been a major theme since the first serial. The First Doctor was a jerk at times, albeit far less of one by the time of his regeneration (and I haven't seen enough to be an authority, mind you). That said, the argument certainly is there that it went too far and affected too much of the First Doctor's characterisation in what may be one of the few showings he gets in modern Who. It does serve to highlight the show's respect for female companions, which is *markedly* superior to the way the show used to, some of the time (as they appeared in the show, specifically)... and I think that the real, best version of the First Doctor does come through in this episode, *most* of the time.

ThIs Is PuRe GoLd They're a very good duo for being very different at some point. Bill is one of the biggest human representation companions on the show, she let the emotions lead her and is not afraid to ask. She created a really "father and daughter" thing with the Doctor and it's just the cutest thing ever! I wish we had one more season with them but this duo closed 12th's era very well ☺️❤️

Fans didn’t like Bill because she made them questions things they never thought to question. Like why the seats were never by the controls.... I recently got HBOmax so I started rewatching the series from the beginning. And guys all the companions ask a bunch of questions in the beginning. No one just blindly accepts all the craziness that goes on without question. And the ones who do, don’t last long.

yeah she was a good character but the massive flaw with how she was written was the fact that she had to annoce that she was black and gay every second line. that is whats wrong with so many characters that are written entirely for the SJW pandered crowd. captain Jack was the only "gay" character iv'e seen the show where his sexuality works because he didn't announce he was gay or bisexual every second he was on screen he showed it and those moments where well spent so they felt natural. bills best scenes are NOT when she's saying she's gay it's the scenes where she does or says something cool.
