I thought you were BSing , until I saw you do it, that is really a neat trick. I just got done tying 6 soft beads, for a shot at some steelhead next week, would have liked to try that. Thanks.

That trick using the hook barb to thread your soft bead on is great. I find with stiffer line like 12lb test you can sometimes just push the line through a soft bead.

To be clear, you can only do the hook trick with a tag end which will then still need tied off to your leader correct?

Thanks for the excellent video. It's clear and informative. Could you tell me what size Owner Mosquito hook you would use with 6mm beads? Also, for such small beads, would you still use the bobber stop/micro sequin rigging, or would it overwhelm the bead?
@HolyMolyOutdoors
@HolyMolyOutdoors 28 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching and the question. For A 6mm bead I’d be running a size 4 in most cases. Could drop to a six too but not sure if targeting larger steelhead or just trout. I would run a mini sequin to see how it looks

The hook trick was worth watching this video! What time of year do you use the egg pattern?
@HolyMolyOutdoors
@HolyMolyOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and the support! I have been always a big fan of the egg pattern around the time of the spawn. Typically you have in the northwest the salmon spawn in the fall and steelhead mixed in as well during the year. But I feel it is such a natural food source that you can use it year round and catch fish

I have a question for you I've been trying to fish soft beads with a suspended bobber. On my leader do I need to put some BB weights on the leade to keep the bead in the water so it does not float up? Or do you just lead her and bead. Thanks so much maybe you can do a video on the whole rigging
@HolyMolyOutdoors
@HolyMolyOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I do have an older video of the cleardrift split shot rig. Essentially I like to make a leader from the float that I have my split shot on then run to a swivel. The shot stays above the hook leader and the bead stays natural

This is awesome! I’ve never fished soft beads, do you add roe to the hook or this this the whole rig?
@HolyMolyOutdoors
@HolyMolyOutdoors 7 ай бұрын
You can do either! Mostly it is fished by itself but you can always add bait

greatly appreciate the feedback and support. I have always seemed to do well running 30-40lb braid and then a 15lb floating mono top shot from bloodrun. 10-12lb fluorocarbon is typically what I run

You know I just stick the line through the hole In the soft beed and not ruin the beed with stabbing a hook in it

Can I just put the soft bead on the hook does that work?
@HolyMolyOutdoors
@HolyMolyOutdoors Жыл бұрын
You absolutely can. In typical standpoint the soft bead is pegged above the hook to help with hook mortality on wild fish but it still will work on the hook itself just have to have it secured up by the eye for best hook up ratio

Pros and cons heard vs soft beads?
@HolyMolyOutdoors
@HolyMolyOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! I think a video will best explain (which I’ll work on). But I would say that a hard bead advantage would be rigging options and ease of color change with a bobber stop free slide rig. A soft bead would be a more neutrally buoyant and gives a fish a second longer to hold when it bites. But that is just a surface level of the pros and cons. I use both and have confidence in them based on the technique and rigging

I just loop the hook through the bead twice and it ties it in place above the hook. No need for any stoppers

That doesn’t work very well with soft beads when drifting fishing.
