And this ladies and gentlemen is why I love Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. One of my favorite games. Not just for the gameplay but because it gave us one of the best, if not *the* best, main character developments in the entire series. We see a scoundrel go through heartache and pain, but eventually learn wisdom and become a soldier. Become an Assassin. It is a beautiful transfiguration throughout the entire game.

What makes Edward's story so compelling to me, is that his every step towards his goal of wealth and plunder and living free for himself, he loses more and more of the things that he doesn't realize matter to him more than anything. He lost his wife when he left her to be a privateer, he lost literally every one of his close friends besides Ade and Anne, and he never saw them again when he returned to Britain And every step along the way, his friends, his enemies, everyone told him that he would lose everything in his vain quest. And then, when he has nothing left, when he is broken, without hope, without witness, without reward, he decides to become an Assassin. Because he finally realized what he'd lost, and what he truly wanted to believe in. Truly a spectacular character.

I love this game, its about a pirate finding new meaning in life under the creed. He watched almost every one of his friends die or leave, but kept trucking, finding meaning behind each of their deaths. His least conversation with Torres isn't the pirate talking, but the master assassin, the man who's legacy would be felt throughout the English and the New World's Assassins' orders throughout time. I'm not saying he's as great a legend as Ezio or Altair, but unlike them, who lived by the creed their entire lives from birth to death, Edward was a man who found the truth behind it as a man who lived a life almost opposite it.
@Smarod2 жыл бұрын
Ezio didn't live his whole life under the creed. It's only after his dad's death that he becomes interested in it and it's years later in Venice that he actually becomes one.
@jacklambert15213 жыл бұрын
"You would see all of mankind corralled into a neatly furnished prison, safe and sober, yet dulled beyond reason and sapped of all spirit." And this is why the Assassins are easier to side with ideologically than the Templars. I can see the strength and weaknesses in both orders, but the Templars would ultimately deprive humanity of its humanity by removing the freedoms that allow us to progress as a species. Humanity under Templar control would stagnate and crumble.
