Goddamn... pulling a gun for some candy is pretty wild... ...But I will say, as someone who used to steal candy and stuff like that when I was a teenager, I had an experience where I got caught stealing an energy drink and got tackled by a cop and had a taser pulled on me for it, that kind of experience will really make you think twice if you're ever tempted to steal shit again. I'm in my 30's and I'm glad I had that experience to learn my lesson before I was an adult where I'd have faced steeper consequences... To put yourself through all of that humiliation/risk just to avoid paying for something that costs $2, it's ridiculous no matter how broke you are. It really makes you realize that it's just not worth it. Just find a way to get some money and pay for your products fairly. And if you're THAT broke then it is what it is, no candy/drinks/etc for you. This dude in this video probably shit his pants during this experience, and whether the gun was warranted or not is debatable, but I doubt he will ever steal from a store again in his life.(and many people who watch this video will think twice too)

While using a gun would appear to be excessive, it was better to be safer than sorry if the perpetrator escalated things to the point of threatening the cashier with a gun himself. We also have to keep in mind that has station clerks always have to be prepared for the possibility of being confronted with a thief that has a gun themselves, and aren't afraid to use it to kill anyone that stands in their way. While it's always good to see someone not afraid to be assertive in the face of any kind of bullying, it would also be logical to know the proper time to use a gun towards any threats. At least FavTrip should be proud that one of their stores has an employee that won't stand for any thief's bullying, which also helps to ensure that there won't be any losses due to stolen goods and property damage from unruly thieves.

there was a case in Alabama many years ago where the clerk shot and killed a known shoplifter who walked out with a case of beer. They couldn't get a grand jury to indict her. F' around and find out. ETA - half the states in the US, it is now legal to walk around with a gun, no permit required. Expect to find a lot more guns pointed at you in all kinds of situations.

I don't know about your states law, but you can only be charged for shoplifting if you leave the store with the items. Another issue is the cashier pulling what looks like a gun on him and blocking his freedom of passage. Both of these things 'may' open Fav Trip up to being held liable for legal damages to be rewarded to the customer. Even if he did eat something; it could be argued that it wasn't theft, as he wasn't given a chance to pay after eating the stores products.

FavTrip "cares" about the community, and proselytizes by not selling liquor and lottery, yet they permit emotional and inexperienced employees to carry firearms and use them in reckless fashion. I have ZERO interest in subscribing to this lunacy. I've spent my professional life on the scenes of and aftermath of countless shootings -- And the one common denominator I've found repeatedly, is that people using such firearms react with emotion and NOT logic, which is why nearly EVERY one of the shootings I've been on is tragic in nature. Criminals with firearms don't use logic either. There's a reason those who open or conceal carry almost never thwart most shootings and they NEVER thwart mass shooters. We'll eventually see one of these FavTrip vids in mass media where someone is inadvertently (or even intentionally) shot/maimed by one of these armed employees resulting in their Prosecution and Massive Litigation for FavTrip.
