in the manga, gowther and nadja actually had sex as her final moment and she died during the act...even more, he tried to replace her heart with his, making the scene even more gruesome, Gowther becoming the sin of Lust

He still tried in the anime (replacing her heart) as his hands are drenched in her blood and you can see his chest has been torn open as well. But yeah, the anime mostly hides the fact that they did the dirty, with the only actual hints towards that basically being that he was accused of SAing her.
