well, the author also said in a 2021 interview that Escanor was the strongest and stated several times that he is the pinnacle in several manga panels (last page) He likes to state a lot of contradictions. To be fair, you're right, Meliodas is stronger than Escanor, but I don't think he was talking about THIS inexperienced Meliodas vs Experienced Escanor fight. I think the ACTUAL Meliodas is stronger than him, but not this one. SPOILERS: The thing is that this Escanor already fought countless times against AF Meliodas when he was teaching him how to use his power, but this Meliodas doesn't have that experience against The One. It was stated that Meliodas could win against Escanor The One when he was young and inexperienced with his power. I don't think Assault Form is that much stronger than The One, it's just a matter of experience because we can see that both of the powers can one shot the other if one of them is cocky enough. That aside-. Yes, Meliodas is stronger overall, but it's a bit more complex than that if we're comparing both of them in this particular fight

Power levels don't mean shit in this show. Meliodas was 142,000 and they feared him so much but ludociel was told to be 200,000+ yet he struggled against everyone like zeldris. We don't even know the power level of Escanor when he is in this form 'The One'
