Shit didnt get weird, if you paid attention, Eren can use the power of the attack titan to send memories through time, essentially allowing grisha to see zeke through erens memories of that moment, and eren is sending them back to grisha, in the moment they are at in time in the memory. I get that it can be confusing, but its not really going left, you just have to understand it to value the artistry of the writing.

I can tell already I wouldn't like watching this show with them. so judgemental. Very opinionated on what the writer should do according to them, completely missing the nuance in what he did do. Everything about the presentation of Ymir's backstory was purposeful. The desaturated colour scheme that intuitively indicates the distant past. The lack of eyes to show the duality of a lack of humanity in both the oppressors and those who had theirs stripped away. The lack of a.voice actor because her tongue was cut out. Ymir is a character who has had no agency over her life EVER. A scared little girl who happened upon a power she did not want and had no means by which to understand. It's not surprising she ran back to what she knew for help. She had to be scared beyond belief. To call that character wack shows they really aren't appreciating this story on anything more than a surface level.
