I used to do customer service for an airline. Everything this man said about us is 100% true. He said, don't mess with someone that can fuck you over by doing nothing, I usually said don't bite the only hand that can feed you. We see thousands of people a day. 98% come with the same lines, literally 1% are excruciatingly difficult to work with and 1% come with interactions I remember to this day.
@debra7241Ай бұрын
What do you even mean by saying “don’t mess with someone that can fuck you over by doing nothing.” Explain that please, because reading that seems like you are saying “don’t, yet do something! Which is it?
@QuixoticCampaignАй бұрын
@debra7241 He was saying that it's not a great strategy to come up to a customer service agent yelling at them, because they can choose to do little to nothing to help you. I have certainly done it. Perhaps I could have pulled some strings to get you on another flight or get you a better seat, but if you're going to be a prick, then I'll do the bare minimum for you. If you come nicely, have compassion, and ask me for help I'd be glad to do what I can for you, which, as he said, we can work a lotttt more about seating arrangements and ticketing on flights than people think. So if you're late to your flight, beggars can't be chooser, but by being engaging and kind, I'll pull whatever I can to help you out. Basically, why make an enemy out of the only person that can help you, and this goes for everything in life
@debra7241Ай бұрын

Great guest, love Chris Voss, love the podcast as well, always a good listen at work! But the ads are getting a bit out of hand. I understand you want to be compensated for your hard work and want to get sponsored for the attention but I pay for KZbin premium to not get ads, yet this is the only channel that has more than 2 ads per video, regardless of length. Get better paying sponsors imo if that’s the issue 😕 Seen a couple of comments agreeing with this sentiment as well, I’d rather support in other ways than to take away from the interviews, disrupts the entire flow :(

I'm hooked on Chris Voss videos. I'm hoping one of his fans can answer this. A pet peeve of mine is this conversation. (In person, not on the phone, and usually as we are about to part) "Merle, I have something to talk to you about some time." "How about now?" "No, I'll call you sometime." I interpret motive as the person wanting to be in control. Any advice how to respond and regain control?

ICH is a great show, and I am always happy to tune in. I think a great addition (for myself, at least) would be to have any book recommendations from the episodes listed in the video description. I listen to these a lot when I am on long drives for work since I travel much, so it's not convenient to take notes of things like the book recommendations in real time or the hassle of scanning through long epidoes to find those details again. I am not sure how many others would like this, but I would love it.

1:37 getting raise
@mjs28sАй бұрын
@1:39:14 Sometimes raises just fall under the radar due to the day to day, not because you are being ignored or underpaid. I went two years without a raise and I didn't even notice it or think about it. One day my boss comes to me and apologizes to not taking a look at what I do and the work quality that I have and for missing me on the last round of "bumps" that went around. I was given a 25% raise. Even counting the previous round I missed plus the raise given, most didn't even come close to 10% but were pretty much slightly more than cost of living increases in pay. Also, some firms are so large that your immediate boss that you report to might have way less control over such things that you believe them to have. Lastly, who goes to their boss and threatens to quit if they don't get a raise? It would be rare for that to be your "best" employee as that is not a common mentality of the top people. They would negotiate and approach the issue like a professional rather than, "give me a raise or I walk" approach. If someone came to me like that I would tell them to pack their bags.

@johnmartyn9018Ай бұрын
I like Chris being against the phrase, “fake it ‘till you make it.” When I hear people say that I ask if what they really mean is, “act as if?” and that’s because act as if it’s a tool for learning words faking anything is just that false and fake, which is why I can’t get behind that phrase. Even though they’re used as synonyms, they have widely different connotations that could be very confusing and it’s important to be precise when talking about such things. Or, at least that what I believe.

One thing I don’t agree with the “how’s your day going”? when interacting with customer service. I have been working on the phones for many years now and I can’t say it in person it’s as effective but if you ask someone those basic caring questions (really caring) you would be surprised where it can get you. I have gotten late fees removed, discounts all kinds of perks for not being a jerk customer but asking people how they are doing. It can be very effective
