Before this, I was listening to a podcast by a very successful KZbinr whom I really admire, but I couldn't even make it through the entire hour. However, when I listen to Jay Shetty's podcast, I feel incredibly excited to learn. I find myself watching and rewatching his episodes because they're so engaging and insightful. You truly have a unique way of connecting with your audience, Mr. Jay Shetty, and your content is inspiring!

Key Takeaways: - Empathy as a Superpower: Understanding and articulating the other party’s emotions is key to successful negotiation. - Collaboration Over Conflict: Reframing negotiation as a collaborative effort leads to better outcomes than traditional conflict-driven approaches. - Preparation and Perspective: Preparing by summarizing the other party’s viewpoint and using "no-oriented" questions can prevent conflict and build trust. - Value Alignment: Recognizing when values don’t align in relationships, whether personal or professional, is crucial to avoid wasted effort.

I do agree to most what Chris is saying, but I do have doubts about what he is suggesting in 1:16:00 of the video. This time ‘how I’m supposed to…’ may be too tough for family relations, as it contains threat. Maybe as a last resort… Anyhow I’d suggest not to grab&use it without further and deep contemplation.

OK sounds fair enough, but whatever you do do not leave your job without having found another job better than the existing one. Because there must be something in your personality that encourages your boss to underestimate you. Think about that this is not blaming. This is Self estimation Perhaps you have to elevate your mindset to a more positive one because even if you find a better job at some point, you will find that they are underappreciated you as well and that means a pattern of your own. What I’m trying to say. Make it clear to your boss in a nice way what you feel, but simultaneously and silently start looking for a job that is more rewarding in every way, and that will take a long time..

Saying that he “liberates” himself from the idea of logic/rationality when negotiating with people was a beautiful way to push back on Jay’s self-centric idea that he’s seeing things accurately and the other person is wrong. In reality, perfectly rational, sane-minded people can very frequently come at things from different angles and have had different experiences in life, so thinking that you’re always right doesn’t help you in a negotiation or argument.

If you are Chris Voss you can take a hard stance on free consulting but as a startup CEO I get pitched by consulting firms 3 times per week and small consulting firms ALL look the same on paper because no one wants to give away a framework. Keep in mind, small companies don’t have the resources to steal your framework and successfully execute it (if the CEO is even mildly intelligent this is true). So, before you take the advice given here be sure you are a brand as strong as Chris Voss before playing the hard vanilla stance on putting a framework in place with some sense of how the deliverable can be executed.

The answer about gender pay gap it’s so bad 😅 It’s known that women tend to ask for less and be less confrontational when negotiating, so if a women asks for 50k and you were willing to go up to 55k why would you do it if she is happy with what she asked for? After that you cannot compare yourself to other people in the company as there are too many factors that got you to where you are.

The interview was uninspiring and dull. Unfortunately, Voss did not come across as smart or empathetic; rather, he seemed somewhat arrogant and full of self-importance, which was quite a pitiful sight. The interviewer failed to ask interesting or thought-provoking questions, and I came away from the interview having learned literally nothing.
