Great interview. I never worked with HRT, only the Newark and NY FBI regional "swat" teams. I was on the 5 week Eric Frein manhunt in the Pocono mountains as a member of PSP SERT tactical unit and those guys were a joke. Constantly making stops during our wooded terrain searches, always either behind or in front of the main element. HRT was there, but they didn't wanna play with others I guess. They did have badass dune buggies though. And they just sat parked on the trailers. FBI agents = accounts with guns!lol

Correct me if I'm tracking this incorrectly. So this guy's career basically revolved around protecting this country and has done it at the highest level (which I commend him for). Has (x)'d targets in Iraq that they developed themselves, with which the direct relevance to our national security is debatable. Was a federal law enforcement officer that bragged about putting so many people in prison. Yet, he equates Jan 6 participants as mere trespassers? The same people who harmed fellow officers, tried to subvert our democracy and the constitution that he swore to protect in his own back yard. He spent a whole calendar year planning for the protection of a Superbowl yet he thinks using the FBI to investigate and the DOJ to prosecute Jan 6 rioters is a travesty and politically motivated. Wow.

There were tinted SUVs all over SF in the mid 90s. Their HQ is downtown in the Tenderloin District on Golden Gate street , so if you spend any time on the street you see these guys drive past. It's interesting how they allow people to sell and use hard drugs literally 1 block away from their building. I broke down at the front door of the Desert Warfare center in the early 90s and hiked thru the mountains of Bridgewater. Just because HRT has the privilege of training with Delta doesn't mean they are on the same level as Delta. I honestly don't even think they're tactically better than the Ranger Battalions. When exactly did everyone start using the term "operator "? That descriptor was initially adopted for members of " The Unit" and their members only as a way to kind of describe or differentiate those guys from soldiers and CIA officers because they kind of blur the lines between soldier and spy. Now everyone uses it and im not taking anything away from people that served but it's become a little ridiculous , hey look at me I'm a badass OPERATOR.

The SAS first used operator in modern SOF but it was used even before that going back to units in WW1 or WW2.
