Supporter since 1989! I was young back in the day and fell in love with the pale white kit, players like Kocian, Duve, Knäbel and Ippig, loved the iconic logo and the fact it was back than the only football club I know with brown white colors Didn’t know anything about Hamburg, Hafenstrasse, Punk and even the Neighborhood St. Pauli. I was a very unpolitical clueless Person, only a common footbsall lad like thousands of others. FCSP changed that for me over the time and maybe made me a „better human being“. I believe that’s the reason the Club chose ne back than as i feel. . I honestly never ever been to Millerntor in my life, but followed FCSP to every match abroad in western and south western Germany. Maybe only few would even recognize me in Hamburg and I’m barely a „forum or comment section guy“ even after all those years there are times i don’t feel being a real supporter if I have never been to a home game yet and yes i’m biased about the „brand“ nowadays but the love for FCSP remains and in 2022 I’m finally going to be at my first home game at the age of 47!. Strange love from abroad I’d call it but nevertheless it’s love

Little translation issue at 11:30 "Dom" is in this case the name of a county fair in Hamburg, not a church
@Ulkomaalainen6 жыл бұрын
I just wanted to point that out ... "Wir waren auf dem Dom" is not at all "walking past a church" but celebrating. (The Hamburger Dom is the largest of its kind in Germany before the Munich Oktoberfest, even though this involves cheating, because the Dom is three times a year, while Oktoberfest is only once). "Dom" does literally mean cathedral though, but not in Hamburg.
@loyalm2468 Жыл бұрын
@@Ulkomaalainen It's called dom because there used to be a dom which was demolished in the 1800s where the fair currently stands

I can understand why local fans want to keep the club to themselves. I guess it would ruin things a bit if too many outside people became interested and the club became a massive franchise. Still, fans of FC St. Pauli should take it as a compliment as well. It's just because other people wish they had a club near them that was as cool and actually stood for something decent besides simply "success in football"

That is not the case these days when you have Dave from London, Paul from Dublin and bjorn from Norway going the match instead of local lads who's forefathers used to go every game. The whole thing about "VIP Lounge" and "Business Seats" is pure hypocrisy. Are your special guests and Sponsors too good to sit in a normal seat? Are they somehow physically incapable of doing that? The only thing that creates is class-seperation. And St. Pauli should be better then that. If people continue on with this commercialization of football, German Stadiums will be like English ones in a few years. Completely dead and without any atmosphere because by then all the Fans are gone and only the Tourists are left.

This Video is creating a completely wrong picture of their fans. I live in Hamburg, in a district with over 75% fans of this club. What they are doing is not really "fighting racism", its just calling everyone who has more money than them for example a fascist, who critizises their club a racist, who is not wearing rainbow shirts everyday a homophobe, and who thinks that women should look good a sexist patriarch. They are the football club ruled by the antifa. 95% of their fans dont even know how they played last weekend, its not about football for them, its only about politics. And when i want to see football i want to see football, not "fans" trying to push their political views on me. Its also a club with a huge leftwing hooligan scene, even one of the biggest hooligan scenes in germany. And the people here in the comments who say that their fans are so friendly and nice are either ignorant or they just lied and never met anyone like this.

I've been pondering the 'soul of football' issue for a while now and it's led me to wonder if there is a deeply inconvenient truth - for lefties at least; isn't the whole idea of competitive sport, with its league tables and trophies/medals/success/recognition without patronisation only for a tiny minority possessed by their own ruthlessness, inherently anti-socialist?

+kisbie I once read a comment on that topic, I think it was by Menotti, but I am not sure, anyway, theoretically socialist football means playing against each other not to win, but to get better. Everyone gets better, because he is thriving for victory. The result in itself is not important, but the progress of each player, which is granted for everyone that participates. I am not really convinced by this though....

+Gerhard Thiel To me it seems like you'd ideally try to find a balance between both of those thoughts. You always seek to win, but also try to find satisfaction in the improvement itself.

Socialists (for the most part) see sports as nothing exploitative. Two teams consenting to play a game where one will win and one will lose is completely fine as long as everyone understands the parameters and plays fairly. I'm a socialist, yet I love sports. I'll still play baseball and accept the possibility of losing because I went in knowing that I could lose. There is no exploitation there.

I wish I could choose my club ;__; BTW: As of now, St. Pauli is 2nd in the second division.
