FANTASTIC video David. Thank you for your detailed description of the real issue. FC and Ram trucks needs to acknowledge you and your expertise. If i had to guess id say a stronger spring and a metalic barrel sleeve to guide the plunger, will be the parts fix, as metal dissipates heat better than plastic. Thanks again.

For awhile I was thinking dust and dirt was possibly causing it because its not sealed and the trucks that I had seen the issue on were work trucks working in dusty areas. Appears more that the issue was them sitting with their foot on the brakes for a long period of time. Yeah I wish they would team up with me but I dont get much response from them. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

Another recall to wait around for parts to be available.... Yay 🙄🙄🙄.... On another note, finally got my new airbag for my Mustang.... 2.5 years after being notified. Yikes Thanks for the parts explanation. I hope my steering column doesnt have to be torn apart for this. Ive been happy with my Cummins 2015 2500 despite its only trips (many) to the shop for recalls. Other than recalls, it's been great haha
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 жыл бұрын
The actual part is bolted to the side of the column so only a few plastic trim pieces and a couple bolts are involved. Recalls are a good thing in a away.....they find an issue and fix it instead of saying oh well.....out of warranty, your issue not ours. Constant monitoring and testing. Manufactures dont hesitate to launch recalls these days. I too keep getting notifications on my Mustang...come to find out they only have one airbag currently the other isnt avail yet but the notifications keep making me think that they had both. None the less I guess eventually I will have to visit the Ford dealership. Thanks for watching!

Cool....just knocked one out about an hour ago. Keep an eye on your coolant bottle level the next few days to see if it dropped due to the air getting out the system. Its a pain to get all the air out no matter how much we warm them up or drive them....then a few days later that message comes up and it needs to be topped off. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe Mark.

When I got a notice that the parts were finally available I took it to the dealer to do that and T51 but they could only do T51. They said that the T79 parts "made things worse" for the T79 and I am still on standby for the fix.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 жыл бұрын
Not sure what they are speaking of when it comes to the T79......I call complete BS. There is a fix for the 2015 and newer. Nothing currently on the 2014 and older. The current fix is to check to see if there is an issue....if not, then just a software update. If so then the shift interlock gets replaced. There have not been any issues with doing the recall. I assume from your other post that I havent had the chance to get to yet....its a 2014. They are rolling out the fixes by year models so yours will most likely be next....not because there was an issue with the recall but because they havent rolled that one out yet.

Hi David ýour videos are great in fact I had to show one to service dept so they could fix my tailgate on my 2016 Ram 3500. A quìck question, what do you think about removing the front abs sensors and pumping grease into the front bearing hub and replacing the? Its all over different fourms on the net claiming it makes a big difference. Thanks Steve
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 жыл бұрын
The bearings are sealed so putting grease in that location will not make any difference as far as I can assume. But on the flip side....its not common for them to fail. You see some once in a blue moon. Last one I did was a few years ago. Thanks Steve for watching and for the comment/question. Surprised that the dealer didnt know of the tailgate issue already. I bet they gave you that whole.....who does this customer think he is showing us how to do our job lol.

I've noticed since living in the USA no one hardly uses their parking brakes. And let's not forgot it is a parking brake and not an E -brake. I once parked my elderly neighbors car in her garage, she called me crying that her e-brake was enabled and she was freaking out. True story that.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 5 жыл бұрын
It serves to purposes....you can use it as a parking brake which with an automatic trans....most dont, but with a manual trans for sure. If you have a hydraulic failure in the brakes for some reason....then you can use the e-brake to bring the vehicle to a stop. People like to pick a side....parking or e-brake....I personally look at them as the same thing.

@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 жыл бұрын
No codes get set. Its just a matter of seeing if yours has this issue. For the most part under normal operation, there shouldnt be any failure.....mostly only if you sit in your truck for a long period of time with your foot on the brake pedal. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

I have a 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 Laramie...I live in Oregon and it has been cold and I have not driven my truck in over a week, so I went out and started my truck to let it run to make sure the batteries were charged. While the truck was running it started bucking back and forth as if the truck was not in gear it would run right through the house...IT WAS VERY SCARY. I MADE SURE I DID NOT WALK IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK AND WENT OUT AND TURNED IT OFF. I WONDER IF IT COULD BE THE RECALL YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT???

actually my truck says on the inside of the door that it is a 2007 2008 and was made in mexico and I bought it in Canada. I'm not sure whats going on with it but it seems like its hard to get into gear some times not like its the transmission but more like the shiftier leaver and if I leave it running when I'm not in the truck it acts like its trying to lunge forward. Like I said its pretty scary...I'm glad I had the parking brake on... Ill have dodge look at it when I call to find out if they have the drivers side air bag parts that I have been waiting on parts for ...for over two years. This truck has had so many recalls its really ridiculous.

Recalls are to make the vehicle safe.......many years ago they wouldnt have recalled items like they do these days. They dont play around with it any more. Its a free repair....yes it might be an inconvenience at times to get them done but if take it in at an oil change interval....you can have them addressed and at the same time take care of your routine maintenance that needs to be done anyway. Think of it as constantly improving the product even after purchasing.
@MotorCityMechanic

@MotorCityMechanic 2 жыл бұрын
Most late model rams have a fuse under the hood not far from the radio in a separate inline fuse holder. Not your common location for sure. One option. Disconnect both battery cables and hold the ends together for about 2 minutes to reset everything. Then reconnect. Again check for the fuse in the location as mentioned

As usual, super comprehensive. I have a 2014 Odyssey. It has a misfire at low rpm accell. It is probably a software issue. Should have bought a Dodge minivan. I would b confident that u could steer me through the problem. Honda way overrated. Rough transmission. 6 to 3 cylinder extra crap that will go out in time. I had an 01 3.3. Smooth as silk. No bucking or missing. Smooth trans. Should have kept it.

Yeah transmissions are getting to the point that shifts get felt more and more....sometime hard. Even the Chrysler minivans have their issues. At least have some knowledge with them lol. Thanks Bill for watching and for supporting the channel!

@MotorCityMechanic

Nothing common that I have seen. Would have to see it in person to see what might be going on. Another person sent me a message saying the same thing day. Would have to take items off to access the interlock and then see whats going on when the brake pedal is depressed.

Why does my key fob on my 2011 2500 ram keep needing to be reprogrammed to the truck. Is this a common problem ?
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 жыл бұрын
The issue is most likely with the key fob itself. One thing to help figure it out is....do you have more then one key fob and are you having issues with both key fobs or just that one. If so then it will need to be replaced. Otherwise nothing else that I have seen related to that issue other then the key fob.

Most times the owners do find out before us unless we are constantly checking on it. I have seen the fix for the 2017 and 2018 models. So far the 2016 and older isnt avail yet. Not sure which you have. Looks like not all will need the BTSI replaced....inspected and then possible software update to prevent the issue from ever happening. At least thats the steps for the 2017 and 2018. Thanks for the comment!

I would call them up and ask them to pull up the recall info for recall t79. Most likely it will apply and then they can check the shifter to see if it moves without the brake pedal and then update the BCM with the latest software. If a part is needed.....it might be unavailable but its not needed if it passes the test.

Good vid man!!! Those affected buy Chevy or Ford Truck next time!! Dodge is notorious for using cheap parts especially any component relating to the transmission!! JUNK!!!
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. One thing to remember that pretty much the same companies supply Chevy, Dodge, and Ford with different items. The car companies for the most part just assembly vehicles. They do have some big items such as engines, transmission, and diffs that they make in house but out source items to companies that specialize in a particular item. The whole Takata airbag deal is a prime example.....My mustang and my Dodge truck have the airbags affected by that recall. I know techs at other brands as well and we sit back from time to time and tell each other different horror stories about whats common and what brand has what issues and I can say.....none are perfect and none really better then the other. I have worked on Chrysler branded vehicles for 20 years now and its what I prefer to drive. We have certain cars I stay away from and others I am drawn towards. Ask a Ford tech and he will gladly point out what vehicles in the Ford family are crap and what are worth owning. Appreciate the comment and thanks for checking this video out. Make sure to subscribe and check out my others as well.

Your welcome. I have certainly seen different things over the years being a Chrysler tech for 20 years that made me shake my head in confusion. Some items like electronic throttles and electronic steering has actually done great and we have very few problems at all. Then there are those odd systems or selling features that just tank and luckily go away. The odd yet cool thing is that when recalls come out for the older vehicles like the mentioned airbags.....you get to see how well they hold up. Some come in with 500k and others with 300k.....just blows my mind. It can depend on the owner for sure and also what they use it for. Sometimes they can just be a lemon. My sweet tea at the local McDonalds seems to taste different each time even though the machine that makes it is automated lol. Appreciate the comment and reply back. Enjoy the last few remaining hours before the weekend is over!

Dodge recalls suck. I’ve had a couple and they want me to pay when it fails and they’ll reimburse me until they get parts
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 жыл бұрын
The main thing is that for the fear of being accused of knowing about an issue and not telling people until the parts are avail.......manufactures are now telling the public as soon as the issue is found. Thats just the beginning of the process and then they have to work with a company to produce all the parts needed. That takes months from mentioning the issue until you getting a notification in the mail to come in. The parts they will be putting on will be updated and the newest possible so the last thing you want is the old same part put on the truck while waiting on the new parts to come about. They could wait until the parts are made and shipped to the dealer and then let everyone know there is a recall but in the sue happy world that we live in....they rather be up front and make it known as soon as they know. It creates the situation we are in and I can see your point for sure. I keep getting airbag recalls notifications for my Ford Mustang and they still dont have the parts.....so why keep sending me stuff....I get it, I have a recall.....dont tell me more until you have the part in hand. It seems to be the process the other brands are using as well. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Make sure to subscribe

Assembled....not made. All brands out source certain items to companies that specialize in specific components. Ram doesn’t build steering columns or shift interlock assemblies....they buy them and install them. The Takata airbag issues that the majority of all brands have currently explains this very well. Same company made the airbags for my Ram truck and my Ford Mustang.
