Very inspirational! I'm 12 and I want to major is Psychologically then go back and become a ELA Teacher for middle schoolers. My teacher has helped me understand and grow. Not just in writing but mentally. The number of times she has had me in tears over a speech is just uncountable. I've seen a big improvement in how I think and how my class acts and looks at certain topics. She's somehow taught us all the requirements but also pulled off teaching us what drugs are and what there side affects are and why there addictive. Teaching us that even though we're a poor school in a poor village we don't have poor brains and that we can have the biggest affect on the world if we tried. She taught us how Social Networking can be both bad and good to our mental health and our eyes and how it makes us think and feel. She taught us that bullying leads to harmful things. And she wasn't being discreet about it either, while showing and talking about self harm, suicide, and depression ect.

She started a group against Anti bullying and we got the whole 6th grade on board. We made posters and spent most of our time making a short film. I'm sorry that I'm rambling but What she has done for me is something I want to give back to the world. -Polar.Bear.Toast

Heh, it's quite funny that UC Davis makes you take Engineering courses for Psych, or at least one of the routes. I know that this vid is two years old, but it seems like at lot of Engineering majors who switch go into a Business major, but rarely have I heard people switch to Psych. Is that a UC Davis thing or in general? I'll have to look into that when I have time. Fortunately, I managed to get through the Biomedical Engineering program at my university and got a job in it, making a decent living, but that switch sounds foreign to me.

At Davis? Yeah! Thompson for PSC 1, Long for PSC 100, Cross for 41, Ledgerwood for Social Psc (can't remember if it's 150 or 151), and I've heard great things about Lagattuta for 140. I also liked Emmons for 126 but I've also heard Haustiner is great for that class. Martinez is great for history of psc or psc 154. Hope that helps!

I graduate in about August or September which means I'll be a college freshman in the fall. I'm starting at a 2 year community just because I had some pretty rough grades freshman and sophomore year. Will I be able to start on my psych classes there along with my general education? No one has ever explained to me how college works and I'm extremely scared I'm not going to do the right thing for what I want to major in.
@olivia_simone8 жыл бұрын
You most likely will be able to start on your major! Go to an academic counselor as soon as you can before you start classes and tell them what majors you're interested in, so that they can guide you on what classes to take. In California at our community colleges we have certain classes that are UC/CSU transferable which means that those will transfer to both the Cal States and UCs, which are the classes you want to make sure to take. You can look at psych programs on the websites of the schools you're thinking about eventually transferring to and can see what their requirements are for psych majors. Usually Psych 1, intro statistics, and biology are some lower divs you would typically take. Other than that just keep on working on General education requirements! Everything depends on the CC you go to and the school you want to transfer to, but if you have questions definitely see an academic counselor and they'll help you out!

Olivia_Simone does SDSU or USD have good psych programs? I live In San Diego so I want to stay local. I mean I'm literally across the street from SDSU but I plan on moving out when I graduate. But I also wanted to do the DCP which is what got me interested in your videos then I came across this one and I was like wow. She has most of the advice I need for college!
@olivia_simone8 жыл бұрын
I honestly have no idea how good their psych programs are but those are both good school so I'm sure they are! If you're concerned about rankings you can go on US News World Report and search undergraduate psych programs. haha that's funny! I'm glad you found my channel!
@stephanieperez23708 жыл бұрын
first I'm glad I found your channel! :) I'm also a psych major but I'm not sure if I want a ba or bs because I'm not sure if getting a ba would limit graduate schools & jobs. I feel confused lol
@olivia_simone8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! :) Yay psych majors! haha For me and the programs at my school (idk if you go to Davis or not?), my academic counselors said that getting my ba is totally fine for grad school! I started out as a Psych BS with my emphasis in math because I thought I had to get my BS to go to grad school, and my schedule was going to be full of classes I didn't want to take and had no interest in, so I was so relieved when my counselor said I could go for a BA and be fine! Grad schools take in a lot of factors into consideration like research experience, GRE scores, and tons of other stuff, so I'm making sure I'm strong in those areas since I am only doing a BA. But it all definitely depends on the program you're in now and the grad school programs you want in the future! (but yeah,I've heard that about bachelors and masters degrees - that they'll take a masters of science over masters of arts. idk what to believe!)

This video was so helpful, thank you!!! I'm really interested in personal growth in individuals, would you suggest majoring in Psychology or Human Development? I'm not a big fan of abnormal psych, and don't see myself becoming a a clinical psychologist. I am absolutely in love with learning about ones personal growth and positive psychology though.
@olivia_simone7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Abnormal psych is only one class, and it's not mandatory, so don't let that stop you from being a psych major! I would look up the general catalog of your school and compare the course requirements between the 2 majors. With my psych major i have a strong background in development, because not only did I have to take several classes in it, but most other classes also include the development of emotions, personality, or whatever in the class :) I definitely recommend looking up the major requirements and then reaching out to peer advisors! :)
@bonnie45527 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely look it up

I am doing BSc in psychology from University of Dhaka(the most renowned university in Bangladesh) My friends and family always demotivates me for doing this degree. they say it's a degree only for Girls, It doesn't have any job opportunities, unemployment rate is very high, salary is very much less, boring job, bad future, etc... :( what should I do? please suggest me.
@olivia_simone8 жыл бұрын
I'm just a girl on KZbin so don't take my advice as gospel - It's hard because I don't know what life is like in Bangladesh, but being in America I have the opportunity to study what I love and work as whatever I decide and I can still be successful even if I'm not a doctor or a lawyer. A lot of jobs in America just require a degree, it doesn't even matter what kind. If that is the case where you live then study psych! I don't really know the social circumstances so I don't wanna tell you something that's going to screw you over. :/ Listen to your heart and do what's best for you and will make YOU happy. sorry, that's all I got.

i didn't understand the part where she said she chose the Arts route which is different than the science route,but then she studied biological and statistics in the arts route which is what she said is in the science route, those were just prerequisites for the arts route?
@olivia_simone7 жыл бұрын
So, in the Bachelor of Science route, it's basically pre-med, so you take a year of bio, a year of chem, organic chemistry, and physics. In the Bachelor of Arts, you still take biology and physiology, but only one quarter of each. Also, the biology course for the BA is for "non science majors."
@hsen.a7 жыл бұрын
Olivia_Simone thank you for replying, so the arts route is as far as I can get from physics, Chemistry and biology. Not liking math that much must've made your decision making easier. Bit of a dilemma. To be or not to be.
@olivia_simone7 жыл бұрын
I mean being an English major is probably the furthest you can get, but in psych a BA is probably the way to go lol
