5:15 OMG!!! I've been using FCP for years and never knew this. You just saved me SO MUCH DISC SPACE. I've just deleted my generated Lib files and my Lib. for my project just reduced from 90Gb to 74Mb. Thank you so much 🥰

Okay, so, you have to know this: I have been using FCP since the early 2000's and have been in business officially for 3 years now. I am turning out a multi-cam project with 4 cameras, each 4K at 60fps, and I finally have to start using proxy files. I knew OF them, but never understood them completely, let alone use them. I started searching, watching these large KZbinr's vids trying to get a grip on it all, then when I came across yours, it's like my brain just CLICKED! Lol you do an EXCELLENT job of explaining and teaching in a way not many I have found on KZbin do... That all said to say this, "You do GREAT work!" keep it up, and of course, THANK YOU!!! 🙏🏻

Apologies for dragging up a basic question, but I'm self-taught in FCPX and have been using it (albeit to a basic level) for years for primarily GoPro/action cam footage. Typically I'll record at the highest res I can, in recent cases this is 4K or even 8K (from my Insta360 X4). I usually drag the raw footage direct from the memory cards from these cameras, stright to an external HD and work from there - usually because I end up maxing out my MacBook Pro M1 HD space with HUGE library files. I've never really understood the association with proxy and optimized media so have historically dragged these raw files direct to my project timeline and just edited stright from there. I'll sometimes drag in additional image or graphic files I've created from Photoshop, or Illustrator to add a bit of fun to my videos, but my main issue is when my Mac starts running slow from huge FCPX Libs, I also struggle to open Photoshop as there isn't enough space for the cache. Once a project has been finished and I've uploaded it to KZbin, I normally delete the raw files and all other files and Libs associated with that video in order to free up space. I understand the concept of working with a smaller file that is a vastly reduced file size (proxy) to enable FCPX to run faster whilst leaving the original file in it's folder on the external HD, but does this use the original file when creating the final video? Sorry for the lengthy comment but I'm struggling to find answers. 🧐😀👍

This has been a recent issue for me and I've watched a number of KZbin videos explaining it. But as always, you do a much better job of explaining it. The "What ifs" are so helpful where as other channels just tell you what they do and leave explanations out. Thank you once again!!! Always looking forward to that notification saying you've posted again!

When using the lo-res proxies, is that just to make editing easier but it will still use the hi-res files for the final export? Or will the actual final export be lo-res?
@alejandroortiz1473 Жыл бұрын
It exports on high resolution, proxies only help while edit the project, the result is on the max quality:)

Just to clarify, once we click optimized original, "all proxy files" will go back to its original quality and size once exported? is that right? Thanks! This will be a huge help

Here’s another HUGE cause for beach balling in FCPX: do NOT EDIT from an external SSD. This often works, and sometimes really doesn’t. Lots of people in the Apple forums and on Reddit have the same issue. I have a maxed out 14” M2 Max and for a while it worked well. Eventually I wanted to pull my hairs out since I couldn’t do anything without beach balling. The second I moved from the (high quality) external SSD to the internal drive, this problem was SOLVED. Hope this helps somebody!

I was fast all the time. All of a sudden it’s super slow. Always used SSD. In fact I can’t start a library on my desktop at all. I think since I’m using multiple cameras (drone, Sony, GoPro, and phone) it’s bogging down.

For my latest project, I'm using a M1 MacBook Pro 256G/8G Ram with HD 60 frames per second video footage from my iPhone 15. This is my first time creating my Library on my external drive. While attempting to edit,, I'm showing I have 18.03 Gigs available (ton of music/photos already onboard, I DJ). This is my first time experiencing dropped frames & slow playback while editing. I'm afraid if I load my clips on the computer, it will use all the onboard memory. In the past, I've temporarily deleted my big Gig Apple applications to complete projects. Will optimizing/creating proxy clips help in this instance? Or is it an issue with how I imported my clips?

Such great content, can’t believe I’m just discovering this channel now. Question for you. If my computer is performing well, do I have to transcode to optimized media? Is there any kind of quality loss with that transcode? And will it export the project using the original media anyway regardless? Also, once it’s time to archive the project, is there a way to delete automatically all the original clips that weren’t used in the edit? Thank you!

Apple should not have FCPX users jumping through so many hoops just to do work. I store to a massive external drive, I delete anything that saved to FCPX for any reason, and still, the ball. Is there something better than FCPX? I’m ready to take classes to advance from my level, but how with that ball spinning?!

@@MrValentineReacts Well I figured out what I had to do. I did a clean install of Sonoma and now it’s stupid fast. I can scrub over any footage, audio, add transitions, and the computer doesn’t so much as hiccup. Maybe give that a try.

@@shawnbailey7013 doing that now, thanks! P.s- out of curiosity, does this eliminate your necessity for proxy/optimize files?

Hey what do you mean by a clean install of Sonoma?
@shawnbailey70136 ай бұрын
@@LenZFPV I did a guided re-install of Sonoma with Apple support. I backed up my drive (I don’t really keep data on it) and let the installer run through the routine, so it was like starting with a fresh computer. This was suggested by support because they could not figure out where the conflict was happening. It has been pretty awesome ever since I did that.
