BMW N55 Oil Filter Housing Gasket Replacement DIY (2009-2019 BMW F30 335i, E82 135i)

►BMW's oil filter housing makes oil filter changes a genuinely simple process. Unfortunately, its gasket has been a headache source for many owners in the last two decades. Replacing your BMW's oil filter housing gasket will be a part of long-term ownership, and it's never too early to become familiar with the job.
A rubber gasket seals the housing to the engine block, preventing oil from escaping. But, over time, the gasket dries and shrinks, causing oil to slip on by. The replacement gasket uses the same material, so it'll happen again, but not for a while. Gasket expectancy averages somewhere around 70,000 miles.

if you've stripped the head on an e-torx, use an IMERIAL size hex head bolt extractor, works perfectly.

2013 x5, n55 engine. Is torque on oil filter housing gasket bolts 23 NM. or 23 NM + 90 Degrees. Thought I saw this in a video. just need clarification. Gareth is my go to guru!

hello, thank you for this video! my gasket just went e92 n55 80k miles so this is perfect timing but i wonder if the engine needs the spark plugs in to build up vacuum for oil pick up when priming or hows it works ?

Compression is not needed to prime the oiling circuit. The procedure as written by BMW does not include spark plug removal because it cuts down on labor time and also assumes a shop environment has access to a power supply for keeping the battery amperage stable. Spark plug removal as we outline is for the DIYer who may not have access to a proper power supply, has a weaker battery, and/or has a weaker starter motor. Both the BMW written procedure and the modified procedure we outline accomplish the same goal.

I just ordered everything on FCP and was curious how much coolant should I expect to put back in afterwards?

Unless you are draining the entire engine block, one jug of antifreeze and one jug of distilled water to make a 50/50 mix is typically way more than enough for this DIY.
