The Oracle .... well I agreed with you on this one, it’s about showing everyone that you too could be removing parts of the front bumper and this was a good clear video, it’s only a headlight change and not as hard as brain surgery like I thought.

Thing is if your doing a tutorial for other people to follow, you should make your best effort to make sure it's correct, shes didn't mention the undertray which is on most passats thats attached to the bottom of the bumper and the bit with the electrical connections made me feel all wrong, anyone doing this as a a first job is going to start prying all there electrical connections off with a screw driver

Unlock the harness tab before prying the plug off with a screwdriver.

Thanks for this video. We found that the larger fasteners were T27 instead of T25. The most difficult part was reassembly of the hood latch release. Someone else in the comments section claimed that this job could be done without disassembly of that release mechanism. I would recommend trying that. Thanks again.

Thanks for the suggestion on looking for a Comment on removing the grille, without disassembling the secondary hood release. I haven’t started trying to remove that pull handle, and would prefer not having to do it, if possible.

@@rlewis1946 We ended up pulling a the front end out again to do the timing belt. We disassembled the release again. I honestly forgot about looking at the alternative approach. Good luck!

I just installed new headlight housings... OMG, the previous owner left off so many of those t-25s torx screws and used wrong hardware to hook it all back up!!! I wish I'd seen this video before doing the work, it would have made sorting out this mess so much easier. Great video!!

Great EXCEPT the connector removal. Best to see "How to undo VW wiring connectors" by theweekthatis for that, useful, no tools, no damage and certainly worked for me. Very useful video coverage of all screws, disassembly and reassembly.

Thanks for the help. Did everything to a T except the hood release and light connectors (did it properly). Easy to work around the release without disconnecting. New aftermarket headlights in! Thanks a lot!😊

@@rlewis1946 so I did everything but that. I took off the grille and bumper and just left the chrome part of the grille attached to the pulley. There's plenty of room to get your screwdriver in there you may just have to tilt the chrome left or right to get to the screws underneath but again there's plenty of space. You don't have to take the pulley out. It doesn't look as professional while doing it but it does work. Let me know if this works for you

Good overview. Thanks. I have the same car, same year, same color, but on mine the Torx are T30. If you strip the head with the T25, have your 8mm socket handy. Oh and when the bumper doesn't slide off, remove the 3, quarter-turn screws underneath. As for aligning the headlamp assembly with the fender and adjusting the low and high beams, perhaps that's in another video.

Learn how to remove the power connectors properly, there is a clip on the plug that you need to squeeze. Well done, just knackered the plug with the screw driver. Excellent example of what not to do

You don’t have to remove the hood release thing is a pain in the ass to put in back on you just have to fiddle around with the hanging grille but it saves you the hassle of putting that thing back on

This process is for replacement of the complete headlight assemblies. Individual bulbs can be replaced without pulling the whole assembly.

You don't pry at the connectors a special tool for that

The connectors were already broken on the car from a past owner. Our terminal release tool didn't help because the plastic on the inside of the connector was stuck to the housing itself and the only way to remove it was unfortunately with force. You are correct though. The right thing would have been to push in the top securing tabs in and pull back on the connector to remove them.

You push on the connector to compress the rubber seal, you then use a flat blade screwdriver to push the lever, it unhooks, then pull apart, no special tool required

That was painful. I know she is just the calendar girl being given step by baby step instructions from just off camera - but to go through the factory service process and then butcher the harness clip. Ouch. Undo the 4 T25 bolts, get a pry bar and it WILL pop out without any of this non sense.
