Record your Computer Screen with VLC Media Player | Screen record using VLC

Hi Everyone, In this video I'm gonna show you How to record your screen with VLC Media Player.
We all know that using VLC Media Player we can watch Videos and hear Musics but we don't know It can also helpful in recording your Computer Screen.
Steps:
1. Open VLC Media Player
2. Media - Capture Device
3. Change the Capture Mode to Desktop
4. Change the desired frame rate to 30 fps
5. Click on the little down arrow near the Play button - Then click Convert
6. Select your Output Destination Folder
7. Name the File
8. Then Click start
9. To Stop the Recording press the Stop playback button on the VLC Media Player
That's it

The path suggested works in terms of recording, but on playback, the recorded video is jerky, breaks up into pixels in parts and does not have any sound. Any guidance on these issues?

Your tutorial is much better than "HowTech". Just one thing you forgot to mention - If anyone is doing the process step-by-step with you (toggling between their VLC and this video) they should NOT finally hit the Start button because they will be recording this video (because it is on their desktop). Also, they should have the file they want to record (mine is a table in Word) already open, and the reduced (not minimised) VLC window should be on top of that.

I tried different profiles in the settings of Convert, but none recorded the audio. At your demo, there is a profile "Video-H.264+AAC(MP4)". Is it something you made? Is it recording the audio too?

I've been using VLC to play a movie on laptop for a few years now. All of a sudden, the record feature became open. I can now record a movie that is playing straight to hard drive at the quality of the movie. A movie of 90 minutes at 1080 is 4GB.

Thanks for your instructive video. I, too, only recently found that recording was an option in VLC.(after years of use!) I could not record sound using either of the my two options in the Sound settings menu. I have to say that Vokoscreen (Linux only) offers easier results and is quicker to set up. I have only used it for Desktop screen recording until now.

.. same "no audio recorded" problem as described in other replies. I have no 2nd recording set-up to record the audio separately and then try to re-sync in a video editing program. I'll just download it tomorrow since I watched it tonight *Game of Thrones S8 E1*

Recording screen "with sound" is definitely possible. Right now, I'm using a software program called ShareX and it does all of the work for you. With ShareX, after you have downloaded it and opened it back up, click on Capture, then Screen Recording, then minimize ShareX and click within the boundaries you want to capture....you will see a recording beginning to click time off. All you have to do then is just hit play, like if you want to record a youtube vid, and then, hit stop, and you have "both" visual and "sound. Don't forget to name your file and ShareX will tell you your file is ready for viewing. But also, if you are using the VLC Media Player, simply copy your location of what you want to record...and then, go into your VLC Player and click on Media, then click on Open Network Stream, then, put in your URL for the page you want to record....then, hit "play" and "record" and give it a name and save it, "wallah"....you have your screen AND you sound. So please tell your viewers this, it is definitely possible. Of course, a person will want to use those files for personal use only, so as to avoid any copyright issues, naturally.

Usually it saves as mp4, but sometimes it saves as mp4 . asf and that video plays with pixelated error for a few seconds and does now allow proper loop playing of a small section of it. How do I force VLC to save recordings as mp4?
