Another awesome video John. The last serious subway train fire I recall was on the Times Square-Grand Central shuttle train back in the 1960's. It had something to do with N.Y. City Transit's first experiment with automatic train operation but the experiment failed miserably. My most sincere condolences go out to the family, friends, loved ones and co-workers of the train operator who lost his life during this tragic incident.

A arsonist set garbage cans in two separate train stations and it was reported.As a result the train was ordered to bypass the station due to the smoke,ect. As the train proceeded to 110 st. and unknowingly to the crew that someone had set one of the cars on fire. As the train stopped at 110 st the deceased tried to escape the smoke by entering into the tracks to exit the system at 116 st. station.Unfortunately he was overwhelmed with toxic fumes and collapsed on the tracks and passed. The conductor and approximately 17 other people were taken to the hospital.Made even worse by the corona virus.

Great video as always John. Hey brother, try to stay out of that smoke if you can. Especially in those confined spaces. We had a firefighter from Flint Mi. Got called out on a simple car fire. Took a snoot full of smoke (no biggie right?) On a friday and he got progressively worse and passed away from a viral infection on the following monday. Don't risk your life brother. Trains do burn nicely... fortunately, I never had one on fire in my 40 years of driving them in UK... but there have been two very serious fires in last month or so on the UK Railway Network, one involving a passenger train, which derailed at about 70mph after hitting a landslide in a remote area of Scotland and caught fire, killing 3, and a freight train, which derailed 10x102 tonne tank cars of Diesel Fuel Oil causing a massive fire, fortunately in a remote area of South Wales... no casualties this time, but causing huge environmental damage in a sensitive coastal area... There have been some beauties in my time, including 10 out of 13 cars of a train of 4-star petrol (gasoline in US) in 102 tonne tanks derailing due to a burned off roller-bearing journal inside Summit Tunnel, near Todmorden, Yorkshire on 20 Dec 1984... a massive fire, that burned ferociously for days ensued, with flames about 150 feet high coming from the tunnel ventilation shafts on the mountainside like a flame throwers. You can even read about it online by googling it... Surprisingly, Summit Tunnel survived it's ordeal by fire, which is surely a testament to Victorian Engineering, and is still very much in railway use today. Years later, a passenger train derailed inside Summit Tunnel after hitting a huge block of ice that had formed at the bottom of one of the ventilation shafts. Fire and Ice...

Your right you never heard a second alarm for a Subway train. This was suspected arson and yes there was a fatality. :( Good photography, members searching the train platform and fighting the fire. Learning to deal and what not to say with NYC OEM with trains is interesting as I have in the past. Can't say more.
