It was clear they truly loved Maria. They just needed help since they didn't have the means themselves. As Rachael said, they couldn't afford much. Maria is likely one of the few bright spots in their lives. I hope they helped them get her spayed too so they don't have to worry about this again.

Had they had the dog fixed before she became pregnant they wouldn't have became overwhelmed to begin with. The fact that they didn't keep their dog secure while she was in heat since not getting her fixed means that they are at fault and it's not maria or those pups faults. The fact that they were willing to starve all of them makes it clear that they don't deserve any of them

I get the feeling that Maria’s owner just took her in from the street but didn’t have any real funds to get her vet care. Lots of families in urban, stray-heavy areas do that. It was nice to offer to fix Maria and then return her. You can tell Maria loves her family.

@@jodyyork3821 they weren’t found on the streets. They were found on that rural property in the forest area. She’s a stray dog that didn’t live in the house and probably never walked on a leash. They’re stray cats in my neighborhood. But I feed them and have a water bowl out. They’re not mine, have petted them but never picked them up. If they need my help I’ll take responsibility for them. But other then that I leave them alone. Why not take them to the shelter?? Because shelters kill strays because they’re not used to living with humans

I appreciate how the family clearly stated they needed help when overwhelmed, and got every bit of the help they needed for the dogs. The puppies were almost old enough to be adopted, so the family struggled for that length of time to realized "we can't do 8 dogs AND 4 kids, but we'll make something happen until a better option comes." The surrender was smooth, the doggo was returned spayed, and the family seemed happy for it. Thanks for helping that whole family!

The costs of raising such a huge family would be enormous, but to add puppies on top of that? That’s a lot of hungry mouths to feed, that even someone in a more urban setting would have trouble with. The puppies themselves looked very happy and healthy, and the owners were more than happy to get the help for their dog. If the owners were trash as you say, they would have let the puppies starve and refused help, not to mention Maria would not want to be with them again. She was most likely scared of the other people **because** of the fact she was trying to protect her puppies, not because the owners “let her run around starving” The fact that you turn around and call the family scum for just trying to make ends meet and take care of the sudden spike in hungry mouths they have to provide for is disgusting.

@Fractal Chaos the nutritional needs of an animal that is breastfeeding will absolutely skyrocket, especially if they're the only source of food for their litter. With the dog being only 1 year of age, and this being her first litter, she would have had to use up a lot of energy to produce milk to feed all her puppies. It's possible the owners were perfectly capable to feed the singular dog, but when it suddenly had puppies, they couldn't keep up with the spike in nutritional needs and needed help. Spaying and neutering programs are different around the world, so it's possible the place the family live in just don't have the right, accessible programs or the educational programs that help pet owners make the right choices

Maria is a good mama. Every parents number one job is to protect their babies. Any outsider, even well-intentioned rescuers, must EARN their trust. Once she saw her puppies were safe, she could finally relax and enjoy life. Bless these good people!

Sometimes people just need help, and even if the rescue needs to assist with Maria's care, it's far better than her being a stray.

That saying may well be appropriate in wealthy countries, but in many countries, the only way a stray animal gets looked after is if one of those people who "can't afford to take care of them" actually chooses to take care of them. Many countries have a huge number of stray dogs & the usual alternative is scrounging a poor living on the streets and rubbish dumps

She was a pre-teen mom, it must have been hell for her *and* the family that got one puppy and now has a litter. Everyone is fixed, puppies get adopted quick, now the family and Maria get to just be with eachother and live out the rest of her years. Bonus, because help came, those puppies came out beautifully (and ideally got fixed as a condition of adoption, like my cats).

The foster had the mother and pups, nourished them back to health, then returned mom back to the family. Who knows how it'll go from there. Hopefully, the team will check in again to keep an eye on the mom.

Samantha Hughes I agree !! 💗🕊️ It's called "heterochromia" when the eyes are 2 different colors. It happens in dogs, cats and even people. Certain breeds of dogs and cats are more prone to it than others. I'm not sure what breed(s) 'Maria' (the mama dog) is, but the dog breeds more prone to heterochromia are Australian Cattle Dogs, Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, Chihuahuas, Dachshunds, Dalmatians, Great Danes (harlequin coat pattern), Shetland Sheepdogs, Siberian Huskies and Shih Tzus. 🌼

How did you perceive that she cared about that family and they cared about her when they didn't they weren't responsible enough to take her out on a leash while she was in heat so that she didn't become pregnant to begin with she was starving to death when those people happened upon her and her puppies in the street they followed her and her puppies and that's how they found out she had an owner the only aspect of that whole video where you saw Maria with that family is when that woman was sitting there on the chair with her arm around her neck at the end that dog was even terrified of the owner they had to Cokes her out with with goodies and treats and she was terrified of her

Glad the owner recognized the strain, sought help, and did right by removing the pups and having Maria fixed. Because Momma dog will usually make sure her pups eat first. She clearly did love Maria dearly and was a great owner. Then, her family was so happy to have their happy, beloved dog back. That's great guardianship of our animals.

@@svenpatersson140 4 years ago I took home a 2 1/2 months old stray puppy. She's seen nothing but love and kisses and she still doesn't trust any person but me & my mom. When we're walking and she hears footsteps behind us she immediately turns around and waits untill the person passes us and only then will she continue to walk. If somebody tries to pet her she jumps away as if they are wielding a chainsaw. I used to walk her with a girl who had a westie and my dog only allowed that girl to pet her a year later. On the other hand my stray husky who I found 3 months ago wants to be best friends with everyone he sees. Dogs are different, you know. They have different personalities and some of them are skittish for no good reason.

The owner was saying "come aunty, Come aunty" to the dog, a sign of respect for the dog , this dog was still in a good condition when it was found, we have lots worse off in South Africa!
