A friend of mine adoped a fifteen year old mutt from a shelter. She was blind and had a messed up leg that eventually had to get amputated. They didn't think she'd make it through the surgery but she did, so my friend got to work in giving her the best months of her life if that's all she had left. Dog is nineteen now, and she can still run, jump and play like a puppy, has no arthritis, no kidney problems, no nuthin. She really said "ok you've been really good to me, so you'll get to have me for a long time as a treat". Absolute sweetheard of a pupper.

Because for every 1000 pet owners there's only one animal rescuer. Some people will or sometimes have to leave them behind.

@@blingbling2841 I call BS. If you have to leave them behind, you find someone to rehome them to, or take them somewhere like a rescue or shelter to be taken care of. You do NOT just leave them to fend for themselves. If you're that cold and heartless you should never have a pet or a child, PERIOD. They are 100% reliant on you and it is your job and responsibility to see that they are taken care of. The only real exception is if you die like Hachikō's (The dog who waited at a train station after his owner had a heart attack at work and died.) owner. This is coming from someone who could've rented a place for $800/month when I moved a few years ago, but almost nowhere allowed pets over 35 lbs, if they did at all. But instead, I chose to rent the home I'm in at $1300/month to keep both of my 100 lb dogs. I know not everyone can afford to pay nearly double their rent to keep their companions. But I would be DAMNED if I would've just up an abandoned them. I would've either been looking for something a bit further from work, or worked with a shelter or rescue if I absolutely could not find a way to keep them. I also know that not everyone moves willingly or has a long time to look. The owners of my last home died and I had 90 days to find somewhere else to live. My point is THERE IS NO EXCUSE TO JUST STRAIGHT UP ABANDON ANY DOMESTICATED ANIMAL TO FEND FOR ITSELF IN THE WILD.

Love I to have rescued 2 senior dogs, one blind , after 3 surgeries she was able to see, they are own all passed away at old ages but now I have five stray cats in my house and five that live on my front porch. They are all loved, fed and vet care. Thank you so much for saving Larry

Wow, great story. I always wanted (if I had the MONEY!) to have a "Senior Dog" home. I had to quit going to the shelters cuz it just ripped me up inside to see the old dogs there. I mean, imagine spending most of his/her life with a family or person and then get dumped at the shelter? That person or family was their WHOLE LIFE! And now when they are near the end, who is there for them? People really need to understand that dogs have over 10,000 (up to 20,000!) years of breeding/living with humans. In fact, they developed expressive eyebrows JUST to communicate with us! (Wolves cannot do that!) They LIVE for US! WE are their WHOLE WORLD! I have a German Shepard rescue and it just slays me that someone gave up on this dog (was found roaming the streets in Merced, CA and put in a high kill shelter. The SPCA in Reno got him and then I got him). He was HOUSEBROKEN already and knew several commands! Has never bit anyone that I know of (all bark and no bite! LOL!) And he has two daddies so what does he do? He actually splits the time between us! Really, I mean, he actually does that! Dogs are just amazing in what they are capable of and how they so willingly come into our lives and love us so unconditionally. I always remember that line from someone who was asked why they did not have a dog and they answered "Because they die" and that brutal honesty is so true. I have had five dogs. And every time they go, it is just so damned hard and I go "NEVER AGAIN!" but then a few weeks later I am at the shelter.... Oh, well!!

PLEASE adopt seniors! They are so grateful! You'll save a life if they're in a kill shelter. We're on #7 in the last 20 years, but we've loved each one and we know that we might only have them for 1/2 dozen years, or even 1 one or 2, but they always bring joy to our hearts!

I adopted a pit mix that was abused, bred multiple times, and dumped at the dump. She's only 5-6 yrs but has enlarged heart w only 2 yrs at most to live. I am making her last days as good as they can be.

I rescued mine two 8 y.o. from a roof 2 year ago. The lady sold her house and just left them there. They never ever went downstairs, did not what grass was, there are other dogs or animals in the world. It was a tough journey, often still is, but I love them soooo much. My next dog also will be a rescue and a senior one(a). 💕 or maybe I should use plural : dogs 😁
