The thing I think is really creepy is that the entire game's plot is essentially that the cult knows about you and is curious about you but ultimately DON'T wanna harm you. Afterall if a firewatch ranger goes missing that would put up alot of spotlight on the cult. The cultist who's on the tower at one point could easily have struck you there but didn't. I think they were just investigating you. Also that guy outside the wood pile cabin and his conversation essentially boils down to "we won't bother you. Just stay out of our way." They only target you in the end because you witness their crimes and they kinda have to snuff you out as a fire watch ranger going missing while suspicious is preferable to a witness telling others.

Also, when Connor told Jack about the smoke, he would have used the binoculars to check and saw the ongoing cult ritual, then too why didn't Mitch and anyone else believe Jack? Previous Co-worker was called gritty woman by Connor becsuse she might have had some problems due to the cult whereas Conner helped the cult which she didn't like and hence left the job So, indirectly both Billy and Connor are helping the cult This game has so many secrets indeed

@@Soham.69 Hmmm that’s a good theory and I’m not disregarding it, but I genuinely believe they really had nothing to do with the cult, yes I agree they were aware there was a cult but I think they were too scared to say anything about it. Connor calling the coworker a “gritty woman” could have just been him admitting that she had enough courage to leave the job. Billy’s door being locked could mean anything, maybe he goes home at the end of the night and that’s why his door is locked. Unless the lights were on or he himself mentioned he’d be there the whole night, there’s no way to prove it yk what I mean? He also could have been sleeping and locked the door to be safe, or maybe he was in there the whole time awake and locked the door because he knew the cult was unsafe and he was scared for his safety. There are many plausible scenarios here. You can feel free to interpret the game how you want! If you believe they had something to do with the cult I won’t disregard it :) but this is just what I think.

The worst thing is, I live in western Washington. This story strikes very close to home for me, as people dissapearing in the woods is extremely common. We assume people witness drug deals, wrong place wrong time ya'know? The Snoqualmie Valley has a terrible drug problem, although nobody talks about it. The police automatically assume alcohol is to blame when someone goes missing. Bodies are almost never found. The excuse is that the missing person "must have fallen into a river and drown." A good friend of mine dissapeared this way, without a trace. They were a careful person. It bothers me that the police gave up so quickly. I miss them a lot.

Since billy asks Jack if he took any pictures of the skull and candles and says they can’t do anything unless they have proof makes me think that this wasn’t the first time cultists have done that to fire watchmen and because of his reaction when he first meets Jack the cultists tend to get a bit violent. (Just a fun theory to ponder) What if Silas and Connor (from Tower 12) are the same person. Notice how Billy the Sheriff never speaks about Connor. On the first night there, when you wake up for a golden shower, you hear unintelligible radio static. Country to contact Connor, but he doesn’t respond. When you pee from the tower, you will see “Silas” observing you from the woods, and then walking away. He also uses a flashlight to observe you before and after you do the deed. Not only this. Notice how the Window cover right in front of your cabin’s work station and computer is the only one which doesn’t close. I previously thought it was probably a common practice so light is visible from each tower as a safety measure. But then, You, and even Connor switch off their Lights at night while sleeping. So the only conclusion left is that it was deliberately rigged in order to freak you out by letting you see the shadow and glimpse of a Cultist. Connor also never believes the antics that you witness, always brushing them off as minor inconveniences. Then there is the moment when one of the Cultists leave a skull shrine outside your door. When you tell Connor, he gives off a rather absurd response by saying that it’s probably kids playing pranks. We know kids aren’t allowed in the park since the accident which happened a few years prior. During the final week, the game skips the entire duration seemingly without any incidents. Which is also the same time Connor is busy fixing his Generator. That is why Jack (The Protagonist) has to cover his area for him. The Final Cult Cremation Ritual reveal at the end is also hinted by Connor only. He is the one who asks us to check and put it out. He probably does so in order to avoid suspicion. How does a person as experienced as him didn’t spot and warn about a fire? Only one Cultist runs to silence you. Why is that? Also, he happens to travel about a kilometre or so within just a few seconds. The other Cultists stop in the middle of that trail and wait for you. When you hide in the Porta Cabin, The Cultist doesn’t even check inside it. Likely because he saw you pee from atop the tower on the 1st night. So he probably assume it’s a habit of yours. The same Cultist also looks into the Log Shed and actually waits for you there by staring out the window. This explains why the moment you exit the Park entrance, he manages to pursue you even there too. So you have to sprint into your van and leave quickly. Silas probably uses a Portable Radio unit to communicate when he is not in the tower. During the Epilogue texts, it is mentioned that Mitch offered you to come back to the job by offering you to “Just look out for fires”. This is not something a normal Executive/Boss would offer when the said Employee is clearly disturbed and unstable. I understand that the Park has a shortage of staff, which is also indicated by the fact that Billy the Sheriff is surprised to see you, unaware of you being a new hire. And also the fact that there are so many empty Tower Towers who never make Daily Report Entries in their PC system. So Mitch is probably a member of the Cult or even the Leader. Which is why he pursues you for the same job even when you’re clearly distressed. Most places wouldn’t want an unstable employee like that even if they are on staff shortage, and that too for such a responsible position of a Tower Ranger. My reasoning is that the Cult was testing Jack throughout the Game, possibly considering him as a new member of the Cult. But Jack was too forward and didn’t hesitate to share it. Silas then indirectly warns Jack to consider the consequences of his actions. The final ritual also seemed too conveniently placed in the open, not obscured by any trees from the tower. It was likely the final attempt by the Cult to check how far Jack goes. They are caught by surprise when Jack actually clicks a picture. Silas probably foresaw this, so he isn’t a part of the Cult Ritual, instead he stays on the Trail nearby the Tower in order to silence him/not let him escape. Silas and Connor being the same also makes sense as per their ages. Silas appears to be at least in late 50s/60s. Connor on the other hand sounds like he is middle aged, and also has a talks in a boomer-esque vernacular. Since the game takes place in 2002, Connor was probably our age in the 70s/80s. He also mentions he struggles with technology. Which is something common with Generation X. While Jack is definitely a Millenial. I always thought the story of this game is too simple. So probably there is something more hidden in the underbelly, which was intended by the devs. Make the story deceptively simple.

I love this theory but I think Silas/Connor would've taken us out sooner as we try to report every cult activity. Also I think if Connor was actually a Tower Ranger he would've checked under the bed if you consider Connor having the origins of Silas though the theory works really well as Silas doesn't know the watchrowers interior.

What is even more scary about this episode in specific, is that a real city in Roseburg, Oregon had KKK activities over florests and parks during 1920 and 1980. Also, what is more horrifying about that is the fact that more than 28 people went missing, as eight of those people being residents of the city.

For those who may be confused as to why no one believes Jack even though he had photo evidence of the cult’s activity, though this is admittedly conjecture, I think the idea is he may have dropped the camera in a panic when the cult noticed him through the Camera flash. Given that immediately after this Jack has to hide from one of the cultists before he can book it to his RV and escape, it’s not hard to believe he may have left whatever photo he took behind out of sheer fight or flight instinct. Like I said, this is conjecture but it’s what makes the most logical sense.

still dont make sense how jack was sure about that they noticed camera flash? the awnser is he checked them again with his binoculars. he was not able to carry camera and use binoculars at once. so proably he first putted the camera in his pocket or that just has a strap and it was with jack the most acceptable thing we can say for this situation is that, the story is going in 2005(if i dont wrong). on that time cameras were not very good at image quality. also the flash of the camera make the picture more poor quality and the picture was not a useful evidence

So im a part of a reddit group whoch focus on finding information about this episode and from what qe have found, the real park is mapumt rainier national park, there has been many people saying things about cults and/or deaths over many years but not oficially, also there is no information of this ever happening but we are working on finding police or park records in the few days that could prove this. Also there is a story of an ex-worker that had a very semilar story to the videogame but it could also be fake however it was from 5 years ago so we cant know much from it

Just watch Gab Smolders play this game and from what I've seen Billy (the first ranger you see) knows about the Cult because he nearly attacks you thinking "your one of them" but just keeps it to himself out of fear, Connor (the ranger in the radio) I'm a bit confused because he did say there was no maintenance guy and if he was in on the cult he would have covered for Silas and he may or maynot have lured you into that fire warning at the end of the game but if he's not part of the cult he could know about the cult but chooses to ignore it. And about the camera thing, Jack (main character) could have possibly dropped it after taking the picture because they (cult) looking in his direction when he the camera flashed and out of shock and panic dropped it so so real evidence was shown and why the cult didn't go after him after he escaped. Also the Lady Ranger (Jack's predecessor) might have been one of the cults victims as one of the conversations with billy earlier" taking the job and then leaving your post without notice" but i could be wrong. Overall fun story, i did wish someone believed him and i feel like he was gaslighted...where are Mulder and Scully when you need them.

Decades ago, I had a buddy who worked as a park ranger, and he would tell stories about it all the time. I remember he used to tell me that people disappearing in the woods was something that happened a lot. But most of the time it wasn't because of malicious activities by other people. You would be very surprised at how easy it is to get lost in wilderness if you don't know what you're doing or how to read a compass. It's very easy to slip and fall somewhere and get badly hurt or killed. The state parks are so vast and filled with so much wildlife. The odds of someone finding you or your body are very unlikely. Plus, it doesn't take long for nature to take over. Especially if your body is lying out in the middle of the woods. It wouldn't even take a day for a wild animal or animals to smell that body and have at it.

So since people are making theories about Silas, I believe the cult member who went after Jack could’ve been Silas and if he did smuggle himself inside the RV and go in the woods, he probably had inside info that Jack was coming via Mitch or someone else within the fire ranger force. And I also believe Silas also was tasked on keeping an eye on Jack considering there were multiple occurrences of Jack noticing other presences around the tower. Now as far as after what happened after the camera flash part, notice in the diner that Silas or whoever the guy you can’t speak with has a shovel and a black robe. The black robe is also the same robe the guy breaking into the tower was wearing. Now there were multiple people wearing those robes but they probably sent Silas specifically since he was in the area often and also a good theory I saw in another comment was how mentioned they or someone wouldn’t hurt Jack if he didn’t hurt them. So this means Silas could indeed be involved with the cult and hopping rides on the RV. I discovered this game series via gameplay by streamer CaseOh and I hope someday we can get a sequel to this story along with the others as this is scary but fascinating at the same time!

I like this alot but I hate the ending tbh..we literally took a PHOTO of it, how does no one believe us?? I think they somehow forgot about that when writing the ending; The whole camera thing just ends up feeling like filler because of this, it plays 0 role in the story/game and gets utterly forgotten about (no pay off) so it just feels like a waste of time to lengthen the game.

The tech in this game seems pretty inconsistent. We see Jack using a smart phone to talk to Mitch and his sister but the computer in his tower looks like a relic from the late 80s or early 90s. Also, he's using an old fashioned wood stove to heat his tower when space heaters should have been readily available at the time.

A lot of systems are set up in a way and then they can't be bothered to change it. "If it works, it works" sort of principle. Plus, energy efficiency on a generator. It's very uncommon to find higher end tech in places where it's Not Needed. And also park rangers don't have a massive budget to afford that stuff.

It's worth noting that this was based off SUPPOSEDLY REAL events. Fears to Fathom's episodes are recreations on Reddit stories of people who've seen some scary shit. The issue is, it's hard to tell when a Reddit story is real or not, and, as a result, I can't be sure if this story actually happened. Either way, SHIT'S TERRIFYING!

Fun fact: when you go into the dinner you see a bald guy that you can talk a little bit of it and while you eat The bald guy name Silas will leave the dinner after the dinner you RV will left open and if you try to open the RV bathroom you will see that the bathroom door is jammed mean to be Silas is there and when you go to the ironbark you will talk to Billy and if you look at the window you will see Silas walking into the woods after when your at the tower you will see Silas looking around with a flashlight and when you try to telescope him he will walk away hope this helps
