You are actually related to the Igorots by your Pangasinense side. History said the 8 wooden boats from north India (Nagaland, Asam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and the Chin tribe of Burma originated from Mongolia) traveled via Malaysia or Indonesia thru wooden boats. It did not mention how many boats among the 8 boats landed in Lingayen. These are the Pangalatots. Their brothers continued moving nortth via the Agno river. These are the ibalois, mentioned only Mun. of Kabayan, Benguet, and the kankanaey tribe of Bakun and Kibungan. The other boats continued along WPS, since the lowlands are already with inhabitants, they went up mountains, the tribes of Abra, Tanudan of Kalinga and Kalinga-meaning two distinct group, Then Apayo, The IBontoks and ibanaos of Mt. Province and the iFugaos of the Province of Ifugao. But in the course of time there were inter marriages and other nationalities like Samiklay (Sammy Leigh) a Briton pirate who came hiding in the Cordillera, continued his ilicit business in cohorts with chinese pirates. (Princess Urdajah of Pangasinan was of chinese pirate lineage might be one of British pirate Samiklay's business ally. not sure) Igorot kami Igorot kami is a movement (regional part of a national movement) advocating the use of Maharlika against Philippines. Preservation and enhancement of the good, (reome the bad if any) cultures of the different tribes in the Philippines. The igorots forefathers resisted colonization by Spain. Hence we are proud igorots.

Bago tribes was formed because the true history of that was..kankana-eys from cordillera especially from benguet go down from the mountains to trade from lowlands and soon until they inter- married and a new language was formed into bagbag-o or bago (a mix of ilocano and kankana-ey).

This made me tear up. As a Filipina who also embraces being a devout Catholic, I’ve always felt conflicted. I’ve doing been a lot of research and overall rediscovery of my indigenous Filipino culture that almost felt lost as I am part of the diaspora as well as much of my family dropping our indigenous traditions. However, around the same time of doing my research & this ignited interest in my indigenous Filipino culture, I also became more devout in my faith as a Catholic. I’ve been met with criticism especially as I affirmed where I stood religiously speaking because colonization often gets thrown in my face in the means of comments such as “betraying” my ancestors. However this video reminded me that I can embrace and love both. I really love it was said in the video that they accepted & integrated Christianity without losing their culture and that was honestly beautiful.
@Hubert-q9e5 ай бұрын
As someone who decolonization myself and had some direct mystical experiences the conflict is lost once you realize that the God of the IP and of Christianity is one and the same God. It sounds simple but it is the truth that transcended the confl8ct in me.
@davidanthonypongod48913 ай бұрын
@@Hubert-q9eSeemingly, it appears the same. But there are nuances. The other-worldly Christian God is not exactly the same as the worldly Kabunian. Kabunian may appear similar with the monotheistic Christian God, but Kabunian as deity is "here within" not "out there" . Kabunian is also interconnected with the sacred spirits in nature. This is not the case with Christianity, hence the first Christian missionaries considered beliefs in nature spirits as heathen or pagan. By the way, nature spirits are essential in community relationship with their natural environment. Added to this is the cultural belief that deceased ancestors remain in the domain of the living, not in a different realm like heaven. Christianity essentially is an institutionalized western worldview that had its origins from Judaism. That being said, indigenous lived religion is different. The real danger in this case is dilution of their lived religion, which is the energy behind their way of life, their culture. Once the mixture of Christianity and the culture of these people is successful, there is no indigeniety any longer. The "indigenous culture" will no longer be indigenous. From an "indigenous" belonging to a nearby tribe, this may be imminent.
@Hubert-q9e3 ай бұрын
@davidanthonypongod4891 I believe you are right. If I reflect on my limited direct experience of a mystical nature I tend to lean towards the immanent, from within experience and also a desire to connecting with the Sacred spirits of nature. Alas, I no longer have the connection to it having come from the modern lowland culture, but I will respect the Spirit that I met in the mountain as well as strive to help preserve and respect those IP cultures that still posses the connection to the Land, the spirits and their communities.

I love love love this! My grandfather's village. You showed our culture and tradition really well. Totally showed the essence of the whole community. The groom and bride are lucky to have this as remembrance for their wedding. Thank you for this.

Grabe! Awesome! I am very proud of you!

Admirable culture and tradition. We hope your young generations wherever they may go outside your birthplace will continue the culture and tradition. Because, we the Visayan people of three linguistic groups, Waray-Waray, Ilonggo and Cebuano, have lost most of our native culture and traditions. Kudos to all of you.

Teary eyed watching this. A culture that's proudly Filipino, and a culture that we should not trade with Western supremacy.

Wow! Brings back memories! I'm a Filipino (Igorot) who was born and raised in America. I can remember when I first went to the Philippines (La Trinidad) in 1990 and experienced this Ceremony for the first time. As a kid I just knew that I was from the Philippines but never knew in depth of the culture my parents came from. Seeing this video was a blast from the past. I haven't been back since 2007 and definitely time to go back for a visit. Thanks for the video.
