Hello again! I watched a few more of your videos last night. You really helped me decide to go ahead and register for the AHIMA coding basics program that you took. It does seem more comprehensive and is cheaper than other programs I looked at (I already have a bachelor's degree and don't want to invest any more years and thousands of dollars). Their bundle package is $2,385 - do you remember if that included the cost of all of the code books/manuals, or do you have to buy those separately? I can't seem to find that anywhere on the site. It just says that your enrollment covers I year AHIMA membership. OR, did you skip the bundle and buy the three sections/programs as you learned them? (Biomedical Basics; HIM Industry Basics; and Coding Basics. There's a total of 13 courses) Sorry for the long question. Thanks!!!

Allison Staud sorry for the late response! As far as I know the codebooks/manuals are not included in the bundle. I purchased my courses separately and had to buy the codebooks/manuals separately and I’m pretty sure the bundles are the same way. Great question!

I took a short term certificate program at my community college. Learned how to use ICD10CM, and CPT, but not hcpcs. I took medical terminology 1 and 2. No Anatomy or physiology courses. I completed it in December 2017. Already forgetting so much. I plan on going through the books again and taking all the chapter tests and exercises, etc. I even printed out all my chapter quizzes and exams so that I can go over them all. So I have a few questions..How much is this AHIMA course you are talking about? Do I need to study up on hcpcs, get the book, etc? Also, if I schedule my cpc exam at the end of 2018, can I still use my 2017 books? I mean, I know it would be better to use the most updated books, but am I "allowed" to use my 2017 books if I choose? I probably have like 12 more questions, but for now I will await your response. Thank you!

Theresa Ewald so glad you’re getting ready to take the CPC! I would suggest looking at the AAPC for courses since the CPC exam focuses heavily on CPT and some ICD10, also taking an anatomy and physiology course is key since the CPC exam does cover that as well. As far as I know the CPC exam is strict with using only the current FY codebooks (I’m not sure when the CPC exam gets updated to the FY 2018 books, possibly May 1st?) It’s very important to use the correct year codebooks since the guidelines and codes change (also codes get deleted or resequenced) which greatly affect how you answer the questions on the exam! As far as AHIMA goes, if you want to focus on just A&P and some specific areas, you can buy courses individually through AHIMA which are $225 per course! Hope that helps!!!

Theresa Ewald oh and HCPCS, I’m not sure if the exam covers HCPCS. One of my coworkers just took the CPC the other day so I will ask her and get back to you! I would think HCPCS wouldn’t come up since most of the HCPCS codes are found on the CMS website or you’d need a special edition of the CPT codebook which not everyone has, but I will let you know soon!

Hi! Do you have any videos on how to match up CPT to DX when adding them to a claim form? I know CPT is what and DX is why but if there are multi charges what is the best way to match all them up? Do you also have examples for lab codes as well? Thanks in advance.

I'm so excited I found your channel. I plan to start school in May to get my coding certification. I will be doing an online course through a local Technical College. I do have a question. What is the average start pay for a coder. I would love any study tip info. I'm a bit older than you and a little nervous about going back to school.

Ren Swit wages vary from state-to-state, I’d google “medical coder salary” and your city and you’ll get a better idea of what starting wage/salary is like where you live. For my area it is usually $16.59-$25/hr. As far as study tips, look back through my videos and you’ll find a few that touch on study tips, etc! Let me know if there are any topics you’d like me to cover once you’ve started your courses!!!
