I believe this is dedicated to artur rubinstein. There's lots of Mompou to explore. I particularly love the haunting pieces of musica callada. Then there are the variations on chopin's 7th prelude.

Yes, it’s what people say, although I didn’t find a proof in a reliable source, and my edition doesn’t mention this dedication. But anyway, I wanted it to be posted right after Rubinstein’s previous video.

A really lovely piece - some beautiful, dark colours in the opening, and a lively contrast in the "danza" section. First time hearing it, looks like a lot of fun to play (for audience and performer 🙂)

What a great recommendation and find, as he is not well known at all in the self-centered bastion of threadbare middle-European halls. It has that energetic Spanish feel and color. I would take this piece up as alternative to most traditional European music. It is on the cusp of classical music, kind of like Gershwin, great stuff not yet considered legitimate enough for serious consideration. This has all one would ask for, mood and rhythmic contrast, brightness even in the more somber parts. As you say, also great for working consecutive thirds, sixths and chord. Great suggestion. Good question to ask: Why aren't guys AND gals like this more popular. The music is as great-er than any crusty curmudgeon from popular ranks. Kudos to you in Graz for putting it forward with such a brilliant rendition. Something for serious players to consider; it would go well anywhere.

There are many reasons, but one of them is branding. Mompou didn’t make a big career as a pianist because, as people say, he was shy. When he died, they found over 80 unpublished compositions, so I assume he wasn’t very pushy as a composer either. For example, in my native East European culture, people often say that “modesty is the sister of talent.” That’s the biggest and most harmful belief you can hold if your goal is to make a great career. 😅 Also, Gershwin had some significant (and massive) compositions that resonated with a wide audience on an archetypal level, like his concerto or “Rhapsody in Blue.” That’s an important factor.

@@DenZhdanovPianist Good talk, responding to my question. Branding and marketing-Jackson Pollack. He threw buckets and strokes of paint on a canvas; wallowed in it for all I know. His wife took up his cause after he died a rebel. People look for these anti-heros; Mompou would not fit that bill. Gershwin is one of my faves. I experienced the Concerto in F many times; found it as exciting as those primal drums in Rite of Spring. I have played a bunch of his pieces from films. Another tragedy to be lost at such a young age. When I went to music academy, Gershwing was not considered legit, more of a pop dude. Thanks, very compelling and sensible answers.
