I recently picked up a 61 key version for $25 with one broken slider and the occasional flickering display and USB shutting off. Not the BSOD but just random flickering. There was just one mention (on a Google search) of their unit flickering and then the BSOD. Found the Alpha 10k ohm pot on Ebay (two for $7 shipped). I purchased the TCM809 reset chip from Digi-Key (two for $4 shipped). So, for a total of $36 and a couple hours of my time (not including the Google searching), it's fixed!. Thanks so very much to you and your video. Without your help, chances are it wouldn't have gotten repaied.

Great video. Need some help to diagnose the issue with my maudio Ozone midi keyboard (with built in audio interface + phantom power). Keyboard powers up fine (needs external 9v AC power) and I see the midi channel and midi cc numbers in the display panel. But it is not recognized by the PC , although I have installed the latest device drivers from maudio site. I have tried it on different USB ports but issue remains - No MIDI. I'm sure my USB cable is good as I'm able to connect my axiom 49 keyboard using the same cable successfully. On win7 , under device manager , I see ozone academic with a yellow triangle on it. When I open the properties it says driver not found although I installed the latest driver for ozone from maudio . On Win Xp, ozone is recognized as a audio device and not as a midi device by Mixcraft DAW and I'm able to listen to audio through ozone connecting headphones. But no MIDI. Installed MIDI OX, DOSBox - No midi device recognized by both . Is it a hardware issue? USB port seems to fine since the audio interface works. Pls help on where to start and options I have to get it back to life.

Nice work, however you should have added a diode parallel to the resistor. What happens if the unit it turned off: The capacitor will be discharged into the supply rail via the input protection diode of the RESET input on ST microcontroller. I have not looked into the datasheet but the input protection diodes are usually rated with something like 10mA max. When you turn the keyboard off and the capacitor discharges the chance of exceeding that limit it great and so you might damage the microcontroller in time.
@feedback-loop9 жыл бұрын
Chip Guy Vids I don't think there is any problem with this simple reset RC circuit. Further study of the data sheet for the ST92163 recommends such a circuit (see page 89 of pdf.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheet/stmicroelectronics/5521.pdf). They recommend 10K resistor and 1uF capacitor. Apparently, about 10 milliseconds reset is enough.
@ChipGuy9 жыл бұрын
FeedbackLoop Oh cool. Seems they designed that diode in a way that it can handle the current. I used the same circuit (10K 2.2µF) with a Genesys video converter once, it didn't like it and the pin became more and more low impedance over time until the chip would not reset anymore at all.

for the resistor and capacitor does it matter the voltage?
@feedback-loop10 жыл бұрын
louvens filius Not for resistors. For capacitors it does matter, and polarity as well, if an electrolytic cap is used, but in this particular case the voltage is below 5V, so almost any capacitor has higer rating. Electrolytic caps have voltage rating marked on them (say, 10uF, 6.3V).
@carbonbuilds10 жыл бұрын
So as long as the capacitor voltage is or higher than 5v I should be OK?

louvens filius yes, and observe the polarity - connect positive to the resistor, and negative to the ground

hey the link you provided doesnt have stock would you be able to link the parts you used so i can do it your way to repair my own
@feedback-loop10 жыл бұрын
if you want to replace the chip, the link to DigiKey still works. I have just checked. Part number TCM809JVNB713CT-ND, $0.41/piece.If you want to go my way, I replaced the chip with 10uF capacitor and 22K resistor. These can be varied widely. Perhaps, 1uF and 100-200K will work fine. Maybe even 0.1uF is enough with a few hundred K resistor. A ceramic capacitor can be used in this case, which is more reliable.To make it super clear just in case: resistor goes between power and reset, capacitor goes between reset and ground.Good luck.Note that I removed my first reply and replaced with this one because of a mistake there. So if you somehow read the first one, disregard it.

@feedback-loop9 жыл бұрын
***** Sure. Do you see the PCB traces leading to the pads you messed up? So anywhere along the traces would do. Just be careful this time. Gently scrape off a bit of the mask if you have to expose the copper. Watch some soldering tutorials and practice on some scrap board if you can. Good luck.

Hi sir, I got my Oxygen 49 delivered to me but when I got it only 13 keys of the higher octave are working. The rest are not (including the pads) but everything lights up. What do you think is the problem?
@feedback-loop7 жыл бұрын
I don't know. Might be bad contacts in some connector. Might be corroded traces due to some liquid spill. Half a million ways for this to go wrong.
@randel87377 жыл бұрын
Any fixes for corroded traces? I have not yet opened the insides of the keyboard but I suspect since it's very specific (lower octaves not working), it might be a lost connection somewhere (either unsoldered or some wires not connected) but I doubt it's lost connection because almost all m audio keyboards have one board for all keys

Hi had an off topic question, apologies for the random-ness. My Axiom 25 has a keyboard problem. Random keys - 2 or 3 of them - stop working at random times, but always in sequence. There is no pattern, so its not one or two particular keys (such as e.g. C and C#), it could be any 2/3 keys on a given day. Everything else on the device works fine.. Is it a board, the keys or maybe a software issue. Or something else. Would appreciate any advice thanks.

@feedback-loop8 жыл бұрын
Yes, this combination should work fine assuming that your problem is really with the reset chip.
@joelramo41858 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick answer! I saw one of these keyboards for sale with this malfunction, and thought I'd give fixing it a try since I enjoy working with electronics. As far as I've read, the problem seems to be in the reset chip most of the time? It's a bit risky if the problem is elsewhere, but I'm probably going to take it.
