Yes I did it to! this video gave me the confidence and some soldering tips. (my USB connector wasn't loose itself but the white plastic thing inside the connector broke so the usb plug would be loose inside it.) it's definitely doable for amateurs as long as you're patient and careful. I used a somewhat more primitive desoldering device, and only one soldering tip, a quite small one. The connectors take some force to unplug so take your time with those. good luck to anyone who want's to try this repair to.

Thanks! Your video inspired me to repair my own M-Audio. Ordered a new USB port (type B) from Ali Express and soldered it on. Great video!

Had a mishap at church with someone bumping the midi cable in the back causing the connector to break off from the internal circuit board. This video is amazing!! Thank you so much!! New board $499. Used board $298. Replace circuit board $152. Repairman just to diagnose $85. USB 2.0 Type B Connector jacks (sold in qty 10 on amazon) $6.98. Soldering iron kit $25. This video showing you how to fix $0.00!!!

YES! Time for me to work on my soldering skills. My Axiom 49 been out of commission for some 5+ years, though I occasionally use the MIDI ports. I just like the idea of one cable in/out. Thanks for this tutorial!

HELLO I HAVE THE SAME ONE THAT IS IN THE VIDEO. A FRIEND CONNECTED IT TO A HIGHER VOLTAGE POWER TRANSFORMER AND THE DISPLAY NO LONGER TURNED ON AND ONLY A FEW PUSH BUTTONS TURN ON WHEN I CONNECT IT WITH THE USB CABLE. YOU THINK I HAVE A SOLUTION?

I wish this was my problem, I have a problem with a mosfet or a reset chip, I don’t have a oscilloscope to test for sure. Any tests to confirm with a multimeter. It’s either a 3 leg mosfet or an 8 leg chip. I may replace both, but I’d love to send the board to you for further investigation if you feel up to it! Guidance would be great as well. I just need to get this figured out

hi! I decided to open my 1st generation Axiom 61 and found out that the R1 resistor is completely burned out, beyond recognition. Any idea where to find the correct value for a replacement? Thank you, great video! :)
@DrUmSensitive11 ай бұрын
I found a comment on a forum, the guy changes R1 and C3 and the keyboard works gain. That's what I did and Presto! Now mine works, too! :) R1 is a protection resistor, so I think any value between 5 and 10 Ohm would be all right. I've soldered 6.5 as the guy on the forum did (although he says that's what he had laying around). Best of luck!

This is the same issue I have. All 4 of my MIDI devices don't work through USB; it seems to be a recurring issue, probably because we frequently plug/unplug them.

Don't kid yourself. That bullshit is by design. If you bought a keyboard that never had a problem you wouldn't need to buy more. Think about it.... How many keyboards have you bought?

I would suggest testing the board just by plugging in USB - like in the video at 5:27. If you see it in the list of USB devices in your computer, only then you need to worry about the connectors.

Hey, thanks for the very informative video. It seems like you already know a bit about the circuitry of this device, so hopefully you can if not answer my question, give me some advice on what to do. I have the 25 key version of the Axiom, and while attempting to replace the USB port, I have gotten in over my head a bit it seems. I've managed to knock a couple of the white components, one of which you made a jumper to here to bypass the reset chip, and I have no idea what values they are, or if they are even resistors or capacitors. I know i prob sound like an idiot for attempting to go this far with it with the limited electrical circuit knowledge that I have, but I really want my controller to work again! I can provide detailed pictures and whatever else is needed info-wise, if you or anyone else here could help me on this I would be super appreciative! Thanks!

Why did you take it apart? Did you trip on the USB cable and it stopped working or something like this? Do you have a tester to check connectivity all the way from the board traces to the contacts in the USB connector? Something like I showed here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3q8oqlpgLBrpqM and continued at 8:03

The original Axiom 61 is a legacy product that was supported up to Windows 7. It is not supported for use with Windows 10. Mine doesn't work due to the lack of USb drivers for Windows 10. So, beware of buying a used Axiom 61.
