China's growing appetite for the prickly fruit has pushed Malaysia's major durian-producing states to new levels, while restaurants in China scramble to find new ways to feature it on their menus. Durian chicken soup, anyone?

Love what the Orang Asli are doing: preserving their forests, and growing durian trees as well. Bravo! Make money and conserve the green forest as well as propagating msny varieties of durians and othebeild fruits from the jungle. So glad the natives are not letting big timber corporations destroy their jungles. The propagation of rare varieties are highly sought by gourmet durian buyers. Each variety has a somewhat unique taste, texture, colour, pleasure and keeping quality. Only with government co-operation can the production increase to meet the demand of the l.4 billion people. and will boost the economy of Malaysia, making durian growing and production much more highly economical than Palm oil, making palm oil estate owners replacing their palm trees with durian trees. However many durians are produced, the demand will always be very high and very desirable. When the prices are lower, more people will be able to buy and enjoy them.

Hi Sean! Diana Ser did indeed do an episode on Talking Point kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYSloWasYtJjm7c that looked at how durian supply to Singapore might be affected. This Correspondents' Diary feature looks at how the Malaysian durian industry is evolving to meet growing Chinese demand, and the innovative ways durian is being incorporated into Chinese cuisine.

I just have planted 302 Durain trees with 2 types of Durain species like Mutorn and Mousang king. It would take 3 to 4 years to get Durain fruits.

I know that people used to eat durian with nasi lemak or made them into tempoyak, but it seem China’s culinary scene brings it to a whole new level. 😁😁😁

Bcs the chinese are very exoctic, thats why in Malaysia and Singapore we always can see fish ‘head’ curry bcs of Indian and Chinese influence, but in south India where the fish curry originated, we can’t see fish head curry or fish head dishes at all bcs Indians there dont cook fish heads.

Durian tastes incredible and love the texture and flavor. I’ve only had it frozen and only had the Thailand Monthong frozen variety. My first durian was when I was 53 years old. I wish I was living in a warm climate as I would have jackfruit and durian trees along with mango trees on my property.

I strongly opposes exporting Malaysia durian to China …. export to Singapore ok mah cos they are not many people there … even now the price of durian locally is exorbitant … it’s better if those durian plantation owners organize a tourism packages to China to come over here instead and eat all they want …
