I'm very happy with the expansion. This is all a first for me managing 3 yards alone which is a lot of work. Hopefully it pays off

@@redzwashere it will just keep the mites off them they will do well .. winter here right now I'll drop apivar next month that will take care of the mites thru July. Won't even see a mite till August .. makes huge difference in production healthy bees . Sick bees die young cost us honey and brood . You have way to much passion to fail won't happen it will take act of God if does fail.or theft .. I'd get some trail cameras hung keep eye on your bees. My trail cameras send picture right to my cellphone . Or even video . But them old trail cameras better than nothing. You need some I can send you a couple help you out. Made for hunting might not even sell them in Jamaica

That's an excellent idea, i would definitely appreciate it. This year i plan on doing better mite control by buying a fogger to do more effective treatment. I completely agree with you that healthy bees are more productive.

Do you have problems with mites and hive beetle in Jamaica? If so, how do you treat? Your process seems all natural.
@redzwashere
@redzwashere 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. We do have problems with mites and beetles actually. More so on the beetles side. Treatment for me is with oxcilic acid, but the bees seems to do a good job managing the mites. My stock of bees started out as cut out from the wild.

I didn't see you make any holes in the plastic bags containing the sugar water. Do you make small holes or slits or do you simply let the bees chew through the plastic?
@redzwashere
@redzwashere 3 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for watching. I allow the bees to chew holes and remove the liquid. It can take them as easily 4 days to empty the bag.

Hi. I am a new Beekeeper in the Cayman Islands. I get most of my info from channels like yours. I note you use brown sugar for feeding, however most of the info on KZbin recommends using white sugar. Is there any difference in which sugar I use??.
@redzwashere
@redzwashere 3 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for watching. I can agree that if you have the option of using white sugar to the feed the bees it would be an better option. I only use locally produced brown sugar to feed my bees as i find this too has worked without making the bees sick. This too is what is taught when you are also being trained by the ministry when feeding bees. Brown sugar would also be the more cost effective solution, you can try both and see which one would work better for you

What's the size a these bags and how long will one of these bags last the bees also the dementions of the shims
@redzwashere
@redzwashere 3 жыл бұрын
Bags are 9x16. Depending on the hive population 4 days minimum to empty the bag of about 2lbs of liquid. Shims are 16 1/4 " wide and 20" long. Hives are fed based on sizes.

Have you ever tried bucket bee feeders
@redzwashere
@redzwashere 3 жыл бұрын
I have thought about it, thing is that i can't seem to source those 1/2 gallon buckets with the rubber seal. It would have to be sourced online which will be too expensive at that point

Hey davon I am a new beekeeper i notice u use a inner cover why do u use it?
@redzwashere
@redzwashere 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Welcome to my channel. I use the inner cover to create a better seal between the cover and the hive body this assist the bees in regulating the temperature . It also helps when removing the cover without damaging it due to the bees sealing it.
