Those 5.11 pants are Royal Robbins climbing pants. They changed over from RR to 5.11 (a climbing difficulty level) and still kept that cotton loop that has no use for the tactical community, unless you are climbing. lol

The woven strap is an old cop thing. Back when everyone used big D-cell maglites it was possible to slide the flashlight down in to the pocket and the strap stopped the head of the flashlight from flapping around. Fairly useless these days but it's become a staple design element for 5.11. Great pants review!

My best guess is hanging spare carabiners if you're wearing a climbing harness, or dummy cording stuff that's in the buttcheek pocket below it.
@richardzapata3573 жыл бұрын
From what I understand the strap over the pocket was originally used for hanging an ice pick when mountain climbing as Thats what the company was focused on in the beginning and just kept it as a legacy feature.

as a land surveyor i hve 3 pairs of these and they are good for the summer on a construction site etc.....BUT i have found the carhartt #B342s ripstop cargo work pants are my go to. they have the double front which is fantastic for getting through brush and wooded areas or on construction sites. they are breathable and if they get wet they dry quickly through out the day unlike denim. they are very durable and for 49.99 they are tough to beat

I’m starting to look for spring summer wear and these look interesting. You said these are for a specific purpose. I work in public works. The purpose of something similar to these is light weight but durable in the heat in south Jersey(near Philadelphia). I drive a trash or recycling truck or work on the back of the truck, I also do landscaping and other public work duties. Will these pants serve this purpose? Thanks!

I had these, I did not like em. How ever the rip stop was solid, almost no flex and I found them to be too warm for the summer. My favorite Carhartt Pant is The RUGGED FLEX® STRAIGHT FIT DUCK DOUBLE FRONT PANTS, but I don’t wear em in the heat. Otherwise a fantastic work pant that performs and looks great.
@czynski34 жыл бұрын
LOVE THEM! I have 2 pairs and I love the fabric. The perfect 3 season pants in the midwest. Warm enough in early spring or late fall and cool enough, because they breathe, during the summer. But the durability I question. I blew the left knee out, above the knee cap, just jumping up 2 running boards into a (class 8) truck about 25 times a day. Seems odd knowing and visually seeing the ripstop weave of the cotton, but from bending my knee constantly, I wore the area thin and had a blow out. Like I said, I love them for their comfort but durability is not their strong point. Not pants for work. Cut the grass and BBQ over the weekend, yes. A Carhartt 'work clothing' fail, IMO.

@CarlMurawski4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, is it due to rubbing? The inside of your heel is a pretty interesting place to have a hot spot. Have you tried using the surgeons knot to lock your heel in place? Does there seem to be too much wiggle room in the heel?

The 5.11 pants were originally designed for mountain climbing, and were made under the Royal Robbins brand. I don't know at what point they became tactical, but I just can't wear them. They are short waisted and feel like they are cutting my bag in half.
@CarlMurawski4 жыл бұрын
Hahaha yeah man totally. I had no idea they were designed for mountain climbing though!
@rediius4 жыл бұрын
@@CarlMurawski 5.11 refers to the hiking scale. Grade 1 hiking paths are level like city parks, well mantained and easy to navigate. Anything 5 refers to something so vertical that you need a rope, and until a generation ago 5.9 or 5.10 was considered the most difficult technical ascent possible, and therefore 5.11 (which is not how decimals work but we all decided together to do it this way in order to avoid rescaling all previous routes) is a number that means something like "beyond normal human performance," although like you said they've also branched out into tactical gear so a lot of the joke goes over buyer's heads. If you're curious check out modern climbers pushing the realm of possibility like Alex Honnold in Free Solo who climbs a 5.13b in that documentary.

I have these pants for one thing only the look. I have the Carhartt relaxed fit I have six pair for looks only they do not I mean do not hold up to wear and tear you barely nick the fabric and it starts tearing up. I sat on roof one day to do some siding bam pocket gone. Im kneeling on ground my knees wore out after two days I'm so self conscious about kneeling or sitting on concrete with these pants. I got a new pair that has a small hole starting up on the inner thigh. What I think about them good for standing only good for the look I love carpenter pants. I thought I had a good one here but by the way they failed in strength category it is horrible. They make these pants all over the world showing me they going for the best cost to make and their quality control is horrific. Not sure if any buddy else noticed it or I just got unlucky but six pairs. They give in the knees easy and in different spots where fabric gives out and the back pocket thank goodness for the extra lining of the knee or pocket or else they be in the trash for $50 a pair at 6 pairs thumps up on a good looking pants but everything else sucks get it together Carhartt.

I personally just buy cheap Wrangler cargo pants. they are baggy and flexible enough to move completely unrestricted. and they are very cheap, the con is that they last you maybe about half the time as a better quality pair or pants. but they get the job done very well and they are disposable anyways. $25 ain't that bad.
