Howdy friends, it has been quite some time since I've uploaded and I have truly missed y'all! In this week's video, I'm back on the road, exploring new areas that I have yet to visit, and attempting new adventures I have yet to attempt. All I can say is, it feels good to be back!

Ayyy, he's back! You know, I'm glad you came to that conclusion about the adventure. I feel like the adventures you remember the most, are the ones that DON'T go according to plan. The stories to tell your friends and family about the ups and downs of how you paddled 7 miles along the Grand Canyon of Oregon will always be more vivid than recalling the perfect camping experience! Thanks for sharing! I loved the music pairing in this one, it was really good.

Good to have you back. Cold water can cramp up your leg muscles. Ouch. Awesome vid and soundtrack again. Nice chill way to spend my Sunday morning before my afternoon hike. Listen to your gut , don’t want to experience a “Deliverance “ situation with eccentric locals. Glad you made it back to the truck safely. Still, an awesome adventure. Maybe a foldable fishing canoe is in the cards? Maybe with some promotional deal, one of the recreational shops can give you a discount on a canoe with a mounting rack for your rig.

Another great video, I call those "recon trips", they are worth it for developing skills/knowledge required for longer trips. If you get the change book a night up at camp Muir on Mount Rainier. They have a hut up next to the glacier, you can overnight and then attempt a summit the next day, or just go for a wander up to high camp, passing crevasse and huge glacier "falls".

Jonathan, it's so nice to have you back. This is my favorite video of yours. Despite your disappointment and tough paddling, the scenery was so enjoyable. I'm a very young for my age senior and love nature. I moved to a new area and haven't found places yet where I feel safe. Thank you for taking us along. Love your truck and camper. I'm glad you got a setup that is very nice for your adventures. Good success!

I would pack a hammock, 2- lengths of rope. 1 to tie up the hammock if needed and the second to tie tree to tree over the hammock and then put a tarp and net over to hang down on each sides of the hammock. Like a tent and keep the water and bugs out. Also lot more comfortable than sleeping on the ground. Air cushions are heavy. I camp minimally in state parks and fish on the nearby lakes like that with my kayak.

A good tip on paddleboarding if it is windy. If you are paddling into the wind, kneel down on the board. That cuts your wind resistance.

So very true about fly fishing. Some people think it is cheating, but if I am going to a new, unknown spot I look at the internets just to get a general idea of what I should be using. I have so many boxes of flies now after many years. Barbed and barbless. Upstream on the Owyhee where I was at, it was bass.

When paddling upstream, close to shore the water is moving less downstream as the terrain interferes with the flow. Some places you can find the flow actually moving back upstream (do a lot of kayaking).

I was hoping you were just taking some down time. Great video. That experience reminds me of a canoe trip we took on the Brazos River down here in Texas when I was your age. We paddled downstream only to find the car we parked broke down (this was before cell phones. I’m old bro). Paddling upstream was not an option so we hiked back up and even had to forage a bit. It sucked at the time but when talking with those buddies I was with, we still laugh about that adventure. Hang in there bro! Love your camping adventures. We’re headed up that way in our van next summer on our way to BC. Looking forward to exploring that neck of the woods!

Great to have you back, Jonathan! I was missing that "Whoooo!" with your morning coffee. You many fans, myself included, certainly missed you. But I can't diss you for taking time off to have family visit. Family is important! The views in Eastern Oregon are very cool. Definitely have to get there sometime. As you slogged it out around the reservoir, two aphorisms from my time in the military came to mind - "No plan survives contact with the enemy" - in this case substitute nature for enemy - and "That which does not kill you makes you stronger." Fortunately, this experience didn't cause you any harm (except maybe some very sore muscles). I'm glad you didn't give in to the urge to beat yourself up. Definitely not a fail - a learning experience. It will make you wiser and better prepared for the next adventure. Can't wait to tune in to see it!
