Me too, born 2002, I was obsessed with this as a child. I kinda forgot about Lord of the Dance for a few years, and last year I "re-discovered" the DVD. The nostalgia. The excitement. The fascination. It was an evening of PURE JOY

As a fiddler & whistler myself, I have to say; a treble jig is SUCH a satisfying hardshoe dance, to feel & hear!! It's just a pleasing rhythm, coming from a musician perspective 😂 Another similar; "satisfying" dance rhythm is a hornpipe; for example, "Warriors" in the live show. "Dance of Love" w Saoirse is semi-hornpipey, but that's (traditionally) more of a special & unique set dance. It's actually called "King of the Fairies," but I do like Michael Flatleys flute version here... Maybe I'm OCD musically.. Shit, it's all fantastic to dance to; reels, jigs, whatever. It's just something about treble jigs! Part waltz, part slow jig... made all the better, with "Breakout" here, then segueing into the double jig finale.

You might be interested to know, that during the COVID pandemic, the cast did a reunion video called Dance for Hope. It was not a show but it was nice to see them with their families and they haven't lost their skills at all.

Far better outfits than what they use now. They seem to think that having girls wearing less is sexier. NOPE! Bring shorts back to 2022 shows!

I agree. Here in 2024, the more recent versions have them stripping down to thong underwear.🫢 Not only is it embarrassing to watch, but I would be uncomfortable bringing young children to the show and I have a 35 year old daughter . I wouldn't want her onstage nearly naked...no matter how good of a dancer she was.

My friend is a tap dancer and what her dance studio does is just put microphones on the stage (I guess underneath the stage?) and hen they want one dancer to be louder during their solo they'll just turn up the volume of the mics.

@Mrnickstr8911 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. That could be. However, part of me still questions the plausibility of that. You have to consider the size of the stage and the amount of mic's needed to get enough coverage of the stage itself so that the steps could be heard. Then you would have to make sure all of the mic's are arranged in such a way that no feedback happens, and of course one would have to have a sound board with enough channels to control them all. Considering that and the amount of movement & friction.....

This has to do mostly with the sound design of the show. Whoever was running the board must have turned up her dubbed tap track more than the group track. By the way, dubbed is another word for pre-recorded.

(cont'd) on the stage, it's hard for me to believe that the sound designers and Michael would have chosen to go this route for the show when it would be more cost effective to pre-record all the taps.

I love this song, but I also really hate certain parts of the choreography. Like like how they totally destroy the intended rhythm at 02:42. Seriously, listen to the instrumental version and then listen with tap. The rhythm of the dance contradicts the music so bad! I also hate the fact that the heroine removes her clothes to defeat the Gypsy. So cheap and also a bad message. The song is totally awesome though! =D
@lancelot1953 Жыл бұрын
Hi Flurpslxoye, the choreography and the music are continuous and synchronized in the "live" presentation. What you are seeing (from the DVD) has been edited (poorly, I grant you) with a separate music track to which the various video views are mixed if not intertwined. Some of the productions of this recording company (they made several) use way too many "points of view" which confuses (or destroys) the continuity of the video for those who watch it from a screen. As far as the dressing/undressing - in many cultures, dancing, whether male or female often (not always but often), was created/designed/choreographed/... to select and/or promote meeting of a potential partner. Think about Argentine Tango, Rumba, and several other ballroom and/or folkloric traditional dances which have been "cleaned up" to make them "acceptable" to the culture of the era (times) in which they were performed. Ciao, L (Maine Ballroom Dance, USA)

I agree with you about the fact that they strip off their clothes. I love dance but I'm also a Christian and it seems that in all areas of entertainment, the people in control, think that everything must be sexualized and that is not true.... The Bible states that a woman should dress modestly and her beauty should come from her personality and demeanor. Constantly showing your body, gives men the impression that we are cheap.. when they marry us, they marry our bodies...then when we give birth, or get older and we no longer have the body that they lusted after, we're shocked when they "trade us in" for the younger model 😮

Really? Way to "Americanize" it and add a touch of 'sluttiness'. When does the "pole" appear? Leave it to someone to ghettoize a great art form and cheapen it.
@jocelynharris-fx8ho3 ай бұрын
I agree with you. I am a black woman who has relatives from Europe, including the U.K. (England, Ireland and Scotland). My sister and I, were trained in ballet as children and I fell in love with Irish dance because of it's similarities to ballet and tap dance. Riverdance was phenomenal and I felt that Michael Flatley was an incredible dancer and choreographer. Sadly, after he left Riverdance, his shows had started to take on a more sexualized content and it bothered me, not just from a creative standpoint but as a Christian, it disturbs me how all forms of entertainment are corrupted by sex, profanity and violence. I try to minister in my church, to young women about the importance of dressing modestly and letting your beauty come through in your personality. Showing off your body does not attract the RIGHT type of man and in fact, they disrespect women who let it all hang out. This sends a poor message to women and people like Michael Flatley should be ashamed of themselves, for treating women like sex objects. I guess it should come as no surprise,that in his show Celtic Tiger, not only did a dancer do a strip tease, but another performer came out onstage in an American flag style bikini and playing Yankee Doodle. All of his shows, including some of the newer versions of Lord Of the Dance, are EVEN WORSE with the women now dancing in thong underwear and fishnet stockings🫢. I would be embarrassed to bring a young child to one of these shows and I have a 35 year old daughter. I don't care how good of a dancer she is, I would be ashamed of her dancing onstage like that.Irish dance needs to go back to it's conservative roots and people in the entertainment field, need to stop shoving this trash down our throats.
