Feisty Seal Saved From Entanglement

We like feisty seals! They are strong and ready to fight for their survival. They perceive us as an enemy, and we have to be very fast at readjusting ourselves and the rescue net before the seal gets away. This is something we have unfortunately gotten very good at over the years. The second part of freeing the seal from its entanglement is not any easier, although it may seem otherwise. These are skills we had to develop to bring awareness to the underlying problem our oceans are facing.

Thank you for helping them all, and effectively being on call, even if they are not in your normal patrol area - and for being brave enough to net an aggressive seal coming straight at you (eek)😱. You never let their feistiness prevent you helping. She was very afraid and thought that attack was the best form of defence, but if she'd known how much you wanted to help her, she would have not have been so 'toothy'. You are making a huge difference to each seal you save but also, with nearly 2 million subscribers (and many more people who watch but haven't subscribed), Cutting the Line, an article in the NY Times and a piece of artwork in progress, you are getting the message out there. I mention this because it sometimes must be soul destroying work but, although there is no quick fix, your achievements are considerable.💙

Seals are very curious, so they often get entangled in pieces of plastic, abandoned fishing lines and nets, packaging... they cannot free themselves. As they grow older, the ropes tighten around their necks, flippers, mouths and bodies, causing them real pain. Thank you for bringing them relief and life again after the pain they endured.
