It's not exactly "real" vs "fake", the original Chinese maker didn't trademark his shoes in Europe. A french guy basically stole the design (he claims he bought it, but the original owner never sold it) and started selling the lesser version in the west. So both are technically real, just according to different jurisdiction. That's why you can't get the good one from Amazon, they're not allowed to sell them as feiyues in the west, they changed the name to DA FU.

DaFu was the original owner of the Feiyue brand, but in the 1980s, they sold it to a Shanghai-based company due to poor performance. This company now produces the TOP ONE Feiyue, recognized by its green triangle logo and branded as Dabowen in China. Then, around 2010, a French entrepreneur made Feiyue internationally popular. Feeling regret and perhaps a bit of envy, DaFu decided to start producing Feiyue again. When I was a kid, the Dabowen Feiyue with the green triangle was the only version we knew, and that’s the one worn by Kung Fu masters.

At the moment, there are currently four versions of FeiYue, which is crazy, but none of them are technically fake: 大博文 Feiyue, 大浮 Feiyue, 回力 Feiyue, and 法国 Feiyue. For me, Da Fu Feiyue (大浮 Feiyue) is the OG version. The others are not OG, but in terms of quality, there’s no difference.

I bought the wrong pair even after researching a ton. This video actually identified them far better than anyone else ever has. Wish I watched it before. I’m not sure if it’s “fake” but it’s def the French version which I didn’t want.

For everyone saying the French company plagiarised or stole the design, yes, and no. DaFu stopped producing them, but the international distribution rights belonged to another company. The other company (idr the name) sold the rights to a French designer who had visited China, loved the style of the shoe, and didn't want the brand to disappear forever. DaFu eventually started making them again and tried to bring them to an international market, only to find out they didn't have the rights to do so, as another company had been maintaining those rights and producing the shoe. It was brought to (an international?) court and it was determined the French company owned the international rights and could continue to produce the show, but it could not be sold in China. Conversely, DaFu did not own the international rights and can not sell outside of China or Chinese owned territories. The French style is meant more as a fashion brand, while the original style is more for practicality and casual wear. I personally own both and wear them for their individually intended purpose. Casual day at work? French brand. Going out for a lunch date? French brand. Parkour? DaFu. Quick trip to the store? DaFu.

Fei Yue was plagiarized by a french company. Copying the Chinese shoe design,copying the Chinese brand which was already existed since the chairman mao era. Feiyue started as shoe factory for military. Then it diverts to producing fei Yue kung Fu shoes after having enough supply of rubber.

I bought the Top One model (triangle on the bottom) and they were way too wide for me. I had to sent it back. I have pretty slim feet though. I wonder whether French version is more fitted.

no they're real, one is a westernized version, that is more meant for regular daily use, the "real" ones are meant for sports, probably why they are made to look better, whereas the real ones are mainly meant to only be worn during sports so looks dont matter

All shoes are manufactured in the same place.. You are comparing different models (sport (parkour/kung fu/gymnastics) vs casual wear). The different logo on the tongue or the bottom of the shoe (triangle/circle/colour) are due to the split trademark ownership battle they had in the past decade or so. Chinese model can only be sold within China (ali express or their website), as the rights to sell internationally (outside China) is owned by the French guy. If you want them for parkour, gym, martial arts etc, the lighter and slimmer soled chinese version is the preference for most. However if you want them for casual/fashion wear you can't go wrong with any style. Feiyue has literally manufactuered hundreds of different versions (styles/colour) over the years. Every year they release variants while keeping the traditional sellers they originated the brand since 1920. Unless people need them for sporting activity like martial arts / parkour, just enjoy any version that look appealing to you.

Yue is pronounced as Yu & Eh spoken together quickly. It is not “you”. And Fei sounds like “Fay”. Like Tina Fey. You can look up Goldthread’s FeiYue mini documentary for the pronunciation. Source: I speak Chinese.

Sorry, but the fake one is the French Feiyue. It is widely known that the genuine and original Feiyue comes from a Chinese factory. The authentic version is known for its durability, flexibility, and affordability. Additionally, it features a round Dafu logo on the bottom sole.

I think the fakes fit true. The originals, I wear 280 on other shoes but buy 270 for them. So maybe they run a tad big. My toe does touch the box when I run though so if you want space just get your normal size!

I just had my wife send me a pair of feiyue they have the red circle but came with a guarantee seal with them and the laces were wrapped around but the shoe had red circle on the bottom but I read dafu recently started to use the red circle it also have chinese writings on them

Personally I do like it more. When you're moving quickly, it allows you to use the edge of your foot to push with control. On the other shoe, it may be more stable initially but once you go over that lip, your ankle will roll much harder and without control. For just walking or everyday tho, I do think the traditional shoe would make more sense for most.

No. There is a french maker and a Chinese maker, the french maker hijacked the brand and trade marked it in Europe, so now the original Chinese maker can't sell them in the west. That's why you can only get the lesser version from Amazon.

First, don't talk about The French version of FEIYUE. If it is The Chinese version of FEIYUE, the pair of TOP ONE version you bought is not pure. In China, FEIYUE of real pure blood comes from Dafu FEIYUE. The founder of DAFU FEIYUE was an old employee of orthodox FEIYUE shoe factory in the 1980s and 1990s. DAFU FEIYUE really copied the shoemaking technology of that year. TOP ONE FEIYUE's workmanship is not as good as DAFU FEIYUE's.

They merged with another Chinese company to make Top One around the 90's, I think, so both are still under DaFu ownership but I think they have different styles. The ones you're calling fake are the French Feiyues, plagiarized by Patrice Bastian who used to own a pair while he studied martial arts in Shanghai. He claims to have been "helping" raise awareness of these awesome shoes without realising he just capitalized the market while pushing the original company out. Lol

Yes, I'm a teacher that averages 15k steps a day. I have worn them every day since this video. It took my feet about two weeks to adjust. How you walk will change.

There is no fucking comparison between chinese feiyue and French feiyue. I have them all Top One, Dafu Feiyue, French feiyue and the difference in detail and quality between the French ones to the Chinese is HUGE. People like remain loyal to their origins but it isn't really worth it. Just because they have Chinese origins doesn't mean that other people can't do good or even better than them. All the Chinese ones that I bought they lack attention to details, less quality materials and small imperfections if seen with carefully. The French ones are more expensive but they are just pure art. Even the laces are carefully designed in their especial editions. Of course, for martial arts the Chinese ones are better because they are cheaper and more flexible. I train with both and yes I prefer the cheaper Chinese ones to train, because if I destroy them I don't blame about my money. But in terms of quality and longer lasting. Don't even hesitate to buy the FRENCH ONES.
