I've been looking for a good explanation of the difference between the Felco hand pruners for a long time. At last, I've found a great one. I know exactly what to buy for myself now. Thank you!

Great information to help me in choosing the right pruners. I really wish more retailers carried them. Our local nursery doesn't even carry them.

Thanks! Exactly what I needed. Wanted to get a high quality pruner, decided on Felco but it was intimidating figuring out which one to buy.

The F2 is prolly the best for most people and certainly should be everyone's first pair. Yes, they have several choices, but the F2 seem to be the most streamlined (big plus for me) and they are the original design, virtually identical for decades! I'd say one of the most perfectly designed products that I have ever owned. I made a Kydex sheath for my 20 year old F2 and my brand new 2020 pair snapped in perfectly to the 20 year old thermoformed Kydex! Was amazing!

So, what did you end up buying? A Loewe? A Berger? ;) Greetings from Germany.

Great review!!! I really enjoyed the breakdown of FELCO models as I'm looking to purchase a set with longevity in mind.

Oh my gosh. Was this ever useful to me. I am an amateur gardener and have one friend/client so I am doing more gardening than I have ever done with inferior tools. Lee Valley was not useful in helping me decide. This was the best!!! Thank you so much. I would love to study under your tutelage. So much energy and so relatable.

Great overview, but you're missing a quick hand size reference guide to better determine which model to choose.

My father in law has 2 F2 pruners, both are more than 30 years old, never sharpened, but cut like a new one(he doesn't use them as wire cutter :)). He got a new one for Christmas, I think it will be ok for another 30 years.

Just bought my first #2s! Don’t know why I waited so long...do they sharpen really well Stephen?
@StephenMattison663 жыл бұрын
@@hmh3808 Yes, F2 is easy to sharpen, Felco has a great little honing stick to keep up on it, WD-40 will help dissolve the sap & bark residue that builds up & makes your squeeze harder. But honestly, F2 are so well made I've really only felt need to sharpen them 4-5 times in 20 years! I did just buy a shiny new pair and BOY do they cut easier/faster/smoother than my old pair, so maybe I should sharpen more, but old pair has never failed me. One of the best aspects of the F2 design is that they are mostly aluminum & super light, but the hardened steel blades are easy to replace. I can't decide if my old pair would rather just be sharpened good or if it would want a new set of blades. I'll sharpen & then we'll see this Oct-Nov when I do 95% of my pruning.

A really practical and useful guide, well presented, clear and detailed. I treated myself recently to the 7s and love them. But I did not know any of the valuable information that you provided. Thanks muchly.

I tried the F brand with a rotating handle and power gear and hated it. A $7.98 yellow super store pruner outperformed the $28 F brand. The F brand went back to the store the next day.

Can someone please explain why wd40 isn't recommended? Is it because they'd prefer you purchase *their* brand? Or because WD40 is actually bad for the felcos?
@Ramberg672 жыл бұрын
No, it actually has nothing to do with them wanting to sell their brand. FELCO actually recommends theirs or other products like 3-in-1 oil or any kind of light oil really. WD40 is actually corrosive and is really bad for all tools if left to sit. It loosens and unbinds tools by corroding the softest metal. So WD40 can be used but you absolutely need to remove it from the tool after use or you will just eat or weld your aluminum on the tool.

You can also use Ballistol, high quality oil!

Can I use mineral oil?
@pamelah64315 ай бұрын
A lot of people misunderstand the purpose of WD-40. It's not lube. I use Felco's spray when I'm storing tools, but 3-in-1 is my daily driver for lube.

I've had my Felco #7s for 25 years and I have replaced the blades when I feel like treating myself to a new blade! For anyone with weaker hands, spring for the ones with the rotating handle!! Ergonomics makes a big difference! It's important to clean and sharpen your tools. WATCH THIS VIDEO for cleaning & maintenance tips kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3PRqqV8rN2gnLs
