That throphy without the cup is a paperweight, and I think he being the captain and leader of the oilers wanted to be there with his team, not accept a meaningless award. As a TB fan Props to Florida for closing it out, their forecheck and defense was stunning as expected. Florida has now become the new capital of hockey over the last 6-7 years. Boys - the reason Morello would move the Roadrunners to Reno is the same reason he bought the Yotes - he would also acquires the rights to build a multiplex complex around - not a hockey team - a Casino. Reno is the third largest city in Nevada In reality, the hockey teams are just a way to get into a very exclusive club and then use your membership to go find all the money you can in the seat cushions at the club, or from the other owners who actually have money, while also being guaranteed a 1/34 share of any future expansion fees, plus use your new “sports team” owner notoriety to get the deals you want done and begin to work both the hockey fans and everybody else. By making it a destination sports town - where you can gamble all day and all night at his casino, and then once or twice a week to a game at night the other nights keep you at the casino or maybe at the Stripe shows, but he would own a piece of that too as a casino owner. So Morella would get paid every night instead of only getting paid two or three nights per week for hockey and for a much lesser revenue per head from a hockey game. So if he buys the team and moves it, he gets paid for both the casino, the hockey, plus the condos, the restaurants, and all the other businesses he might decide to open and share in revenues. It’s all about the casino and gambling.

Steve is bang on about it being a tough road for the oilers to get back to the finals. A LOT of things went perfectly right for them to be there this year. The stars completely aligned. All it took was 3 guys shattering individual nhl records, the team shattering the PK record, and depth scoring that cannot be reasonably relied upon. If you think Drai scoring a few more goals in the finals is enough to replace everything else that went right so they can repeat this finals appearance, you’re in for a rude awakening.

There’s six other people that have won it on a losing team. I don’t think any of those people are considered to be as good as he is right now he’s an all-time great. What does that demonstrate to the young impressionable fans watching at home? chances are you’ll be in the dance again and most likely win it next time with the experiences that you learned this off-season but again that said it’s called sportsmanship people consider Wayne Gretzky the greatest of all time and not even he won the playoff MVP on a losing team

That final period was painful. Panthers played like they were capable of for the first 2 periods but were on their heels in the third. And we had multiple looks at wide open nets that just couldn’t get in the net. And the final 2 minutes they were so exhausted they couldn’t get anything going. Florida is a fantastic team and certainly deserves the cup for how they played. But I will always view this as the Oilers played better for at least 4.5 games out of the 7 and it didn’t work out for them. Bob stealing game 1 was huge for the Panthers. Because they were only really the better team for game 2, half of game 3, and I’d say game 7 (though it was close).

Vehemently disagree with Steve about the Conn Smythe trophy. For McDavid to ignore it and not come out is childish and classless. Not setting the right example there. He was voted as the winner, so go get it. Revel in the booing. If the player does not accept the trophy, the player with the next highest amount of votes should get it. I call him Connor McNugget for a reason. I didn't like him before but I respected his ability. As of last night, I lost what little respect I have for him

I vehemently disagree with the comments on Knoblauch pulling Skinner. Hindsight is 20/20 and it's easy to say he should have pulled the goalie earlier on a faceoff, knowing the result.... But if he pulls the goalie with 3 minutes left and Florida ices the puck and scores, not a single person on earth would be honest enough to say they agreed with the call to pull the goalie so early. Especially with the Oilers top line being exhausted, it was far less likely they would recover the puck on the faceoff and take possession than on a 2nd period faceoff.
@InsignificantNick3 ай бұрын
McDavid had 20 more points than any Panther, which may be superficial, but it's also wild. Plus, Bob's save percentage dropped to a .906. A goalie has never won the Conn Smythe with a save percentage that low. McDavid winning the trophy was the most unsurprising thing ever.
