I’ve been very stressed lately. My girl when I relax on my lap. She senses I’m tense, on the couch arm near me. Her brother will sit in front of me watching me, talks to me then goes someplace else until I’m fully relaxed. They’re always checking on me and following. They know I love them no matter what.

The older my cat gets, the more affectionate he becomes…..This occurred with the vast majority of the many cats I’ve had in my life.

Yep my cat passed in April this year at 20 years old and he only got more clingy and affectionate as he aged. Up until about 15 he was very reserved and independent and would follow me around the house but rarely ever cuddle up on me. After 15 I could not sit down without him on my lap within a minute.

My cat sleeps in a cat bed next to me. I have one cat bed on each side of my pillow. If I face the cat bed he's not in and he's aware of it, he'll move to the bed I'm facing. Pretty consistently too--he always moves to the bed I'm facing.

I stop petting my cat when I see her wagging or twitching her tail but the second I stop she slides her head under my palm 🤷🏾♂️

If your cat feels aggressive they’ll swish their tail rapidly, their ears will be pinned back and they’ll hiss. Cats also like to have time for themselves. Mine like to loaf on a chair, and they like their bottom kitchen cupboard. On weekends neither are much for lap time but are around. Yesterday for instance my two crowded into their bed together which was good as when my cat was gone for three days at the hospital, to see my girl accept her brother again it was heartwarming, I didn’t take it at all personally that they wanted to be with each other than me. They’re entitled. It’s when people project is where the problem is.

Cats are it dogs. I’ve had cats for 44 years. When I worked and not. They couldn’t have cared less my comings and goings. When I come home from the corner store my girl never greets me for the last four years. But she loved my lap. My boy sometimes greets me sometimes not. But he loves my lap and follows me around supervising. My boy is on medication. I call him and say let’s get some medicine. He ambles into the kitchen and don’t even have to restrain him. He’s an eye dropper medicine taking champ. My cats take lap shifts. My boy gone for three days at the doctor is just as affectionate as before now home.

Oddly enough? In the beginning this cat said this IS my human for most of us. Now keeping that respect is up to us to understand our cat as we? Have a superior ability to understand IF we understand ourselves. Bringing ourselves down to a cat's understanding is easy ENOUGH if you take the time to learn it. Their responses are animalistic and based on instinct but we? GOT LOGIC but it only works IF we work to understand our cat's limited understanding realizing WE ARE NOT DEALING WITH EQUALS. Cats are sophisticated in their own way but as humans? We seriously have them outgunned if we ACTUALLY want to understand them and PUT IN THE WORK TO DO SO. As social creatures we humans have a BAD habit of treating our pets as EQUALS with us in charge but EXPECTING them to understand us. Here's the problem, animals run on instinct and we? Run on LOGIC. Asking our cat to understand us? Is the same as asking a record player to act like a DVD player. Some basics ARE there like sound and emotion but there ain't no video in a record player. It's kind of the same handicap your pet has with dealing with you. We CAN understand so much more than our pets... if we dumb ourselves down to their level and UNDERSTAND their limits in instinctive behavior AND their limited mental capacity. Thing is? It literally takes US work to understand it to understand their limited reasoning as a social creature ourselves? Have a bad habit of creatures below us as we treat as equals? Have a bad habit of expecting them to UNDERSTAND us. Stupid example but it's like asking a bat that is nearly blind to describe ART to us when the darn thing can barely see even IF it was as intelligent as us.

🤣I saw my boy’s cat’s butt at the doctor, and it was clogged! He needed a catheter and now he’s back on his special food. But seriously I see my 2 cats butts all the time. They keep their tails straight up and my boy likes to curl his tail tip side to side. I’m fascinated how he’s able to do that.

My cats stare at me all the time. I say what! And they head bunt me or nestle in my lap. The staring is a bit eerie but I don’t put any stock in it. My girl looks at me tips her head to the side like she’s a scientist studying something. Manny2 is a full stare. Then comes up to get a head or cheek rub. Next thing I know I have 15lbs. worth of boy cat settling in my lap for a nap.

Yep. My girl gives the gimlet stare when she thinks I'm being dense. "Uh, hello...? I said, treats/food ...now". And she shows her behind every time she leads me to her bowl, which is every time I walk in a direction that she thinks might end up (possibly!) being the kitchen. Lol!

If I fall asleep on the couch one cat or the other sleeps on or near me and the other will sleep wherever. My room is off limits. My private space.

The next question is did you get your cat as an adult or as a kitten. I’ve always had kittens first and build that bond.

Keep your cat inside. It’s safer. If they’re put out all the time because you don’t want to deal with them, why have a cat and yeah they’ll get a friend elsewhere.
